I played this when it launched on the Wii U, and I bought it again with rose-tinted goggles on. The game hasn't aged well to say the least. Don't get me wrong, it is still a solid game that's free of bugs and includes a boatload of content, but the 3D side-scrolling just doesn't feel as tight and precise as Mario's 2D outings. Again, it is still a perfectly competent game for its time, but it won't go down in history as one of the greats (SMB, SMB3, SMW). My reasoning for bumping off a star then is the value proposition here. What you get is a port with no significant improvements for the price of a full new AAA game. This is a fun, older style Mario platformer that offers a fun 2D style gaming experience. In comparison to the newer-style Mario Odyssey I don't enjoy SMBUD quite as much, but I am still glad that I bought it. That said, if it had not been for the ability to play as the Nabbit character on the harder levels I would have absolutely hated the game. At this stage in my life, I don't have the patience or the reflexes for a level that requires you to repeat it over and over and over until you can manage to get clear through all the (sometimes time-restricted) threats and still survive a boss fight at the end with only 3 levels of damage. Younger gamers will probably relish the challenge, but I like that I can customize the level of difficulty to some extent. There is nothing not to love about this classic game. This is an absolutely essential game in my Wii collection. One of my personal favorites. It brings back Super Mario Bros. with a cool map of the game worlds. You can navigate through the game and keep track of where you are with the map. I really love all the characters, bright colors, and challenging levels. This is super fun and addictive. I can get totally lost in playing this game. I feel like I am reliving my childhood everytime I play it. The game disc itself is refurbished but is in perfect condition. There are no marks, scratches, or damage to the disc. I recently received this Refurbished Super Mario Bros. game for Wii. My nephew comes over a lot and brings his Switch but doesn't bring the part that connects it to the TV, so having a console (old as it is) and games is great! This came with the original case which isn't always possible with used (refurbished) games. It has a booklet inside on how to view the game instructions online (if available) as well as showing different generic warnings. The game works perfectly and barely has any noticeable signs of use or scratches on the disc. It's a really cute Mario game. I used to play Mario Bros. when I was young as well. Other than Goldeneye, it was always my favorite (showing my age a bit)! During gameplay that controller even has a special ability specific to the way, where the player can shake the controller up and down to execute a special mario move such as flying up in the air(using the propeller hat) or twirling around with your arms out. My child loved this ability to make mario fly with the propeller hat by shaking the control. That's basically all she did on every level. Ha As far as gameplay, it's pretty traditional for a mario game. You advance through the game from a world map menu where you direct Mario where to go. Each level ends with a boss battle in a castle. My child seemed very motivated to reach the castles and bea the bosses and found it fun. She is 10 and has autism and is not too coordinated or cognitively advanced like a normal child, so for her to stay interested and motivated says a lot for how engaging and well produced the game is. The graphics looked superb. They reminded me of the N64 Mario with similarly styled castle and font choices. Sounds were fun as typical with boops and beeps when hitting coin blocks. Occasionally a sound will eminate from the controller unexpectedly (like when you get a mushroom). In summary, this was a surprising hit with the family and was enjoyed even more than Wii sports, which was the previous fan favorite.

It's a great game, for the whole family. If you have enough remotes, it's a four player game, without split screen. I played this when I was younger, and absolutely loved it. (Tip: It tells you to turn the remote sideways, but you can also play with a nunchuck.) Works fine (that I've heard.) I ordered this as a birthday present for my kid brother (I live in Illinois, he lives in Michigan) and he loves it. The only thing is that when I placed the order May 31st, 2020, it said it would be delivered by June 8th, 2020 and it didn't arrive until June 18th, 2020. Under normal circumstances, I would've given 3 stars due to it being over a week late, but due to the chaos of Covid-19, I'm bit more understanding.
