Too much of a focus on being competitive, when it really shouldn't be at all. That's really the deciding factor of if you'll like it or not. The competitiveness is nothing but a detriment in my eyes, but the devs are really passionate. This is no typical licensed cash grab, it's practically a nick funded indie game, and they've continued to support it with updates and etc very well, recently finally adding voice acting and items, and rollback netcode is a good thing for sure. Overall though it cares more about being competitive than being fun, most people seem cool with that, so i can't really dock it for that, but be aware before buying. Also, it's missing tap jump, which is infuriating, but hopefully it'll be added in eventually.

DBZ: KAKAROT is a title best enjoyed as a novelty for what it is, that being an immersive action adventure title set in the Dragonball Z universe and recreating events from the manga/series. However, that doesnt mean its an unmitigated success either. This is not a true open world DBZ rpg, as it was marketed and promised to be. Rather, this is an action rpg that makes compromises at many turns. The largest compromise and most glaring fault of the game is combat. Rather than being open world action combat like it should be, the game jumps into a weird combat phase that suddenly gives you access to your fists and ki and turns the game into an arena fighter (not unlike Xenoverse). Thankfully, I picked the game up cheap, so its been worth the money I paid. What the world wants and was expecting from this title, is a 3D and open-world version of the Legacy Of Goku series.

Besides the lackluster trailers that were released this game is really fun! That game doesn’t play like Smash Ultimate but more like Melee. Fast pace and chaotic. There are no items that drop randomly in the fights, but the game is more combo focus. Don’t expect Smash level of content. This game was made on a budget less than half of Smash Ultimate. The director of the studio that made the game did state in a interview there is DLC coming down the road and possibly of V/O (voice over) as well. It’s really fun game to play with other and online wasn’t so bad either depending on your internet connection. I let my little sister borrow it and just like me we didn’t realized that three hours past. The gameplay is OK. What I appreciated is how much care is taken in recreating the classic cartoon characters of my childhood. All the original voices (or possibly good impersonations in some cases) for each character are there including Billy West from Ren & Stimpy and CatDog. Plus the extra DLC characters are included in a DLC code that would normally cost a few dollars less than this copy (not included in the cartridge). Rocko is only available with the included DLC. (Internet connection required for DLC).
Bought the Ultimate version of the game thinking the “included” DLC would be on the cart. Opened the case to find out that the DLC is a code. Tried to enter the code multiple times and it keeps giving me an error code that the DLC hasn’t been released yet. Looking in the eShop and I can see that the DLC has been released months ago. Also all free DLC is not on the cart. The game had a big download after inserting the cartridge.
Similar to the Smash Bros. series, this game allows you to pit your favorite Nicktoons characters against each other in a arena-style fight. The controls feel a bit awkward, especially if you are used to pressing the up button to jump in other games, because there's no option for that here. The lack of voice-acting is pretty obvious too. Overall, the game probably isn't worth the $50 price point and like other reviewers here, I suggest waiting for a sale like we did. The game has a lot of potential and feels incomplete. Apparently, the developers of the game are working to add DLC in the coming months, such as new characters, costumes, and maybe voice acting. For now, the game is a minimalistic Smash clone and great for kids who love Nicktoons characters.
This game is very fun and its exactly like super smash bros but since its nickelodeon, its like the American version of super smashbros. Now the only bad thing i see in the game that can maybe be fixed with a future firmware update is the voice overs. There are Zero voice overs in the game for the characters which makes the game feel a little boring because if they hit each other you dont hear anything other then the music in the background and some small effects but thats just my own opinion, thats the only reason i take away 1 star out of 5. It would be way more fun with hewring the characters voices as we play the game. As for DLC, i wont buy any of it until they add the voice overs for the characters. Once they do ill buy any DLC they throw my way for the game ... MoreThis game is very fun and its exactly like super smash bros but since its nickelodeon, its like the American version of super smashbros. But please take that there is Zero character Voice Overs into account. Maybe a firmware update will fix that.
I bought this game during the Black Friday sale thinking it would be a good deal, and while it was, I was also disappointed in how this "ultimate" edition was handled.First of all, the game on the cart is still in version 1.0 and does not have any of the post launch updates pre-loaded on it. As such the game requires a 3gb download in order to get full enjoyment of the package.Second, because of this it also does not have any of the paid DLC that was added later down the line on the cart as well. Those were instead included as a 16-character code printed on a leaflet in the case.Don't get me wrong, the game IS fun and has a large cast of characters from popular Nickelodeon shows both old and new, but if I'm buying anything that is branded with the "Ultimate" ... MoreI bought this game during the Black Friday sale thinking it would be a good deal, and while it was, I was also disappointed in how this "ultimate" edition was handled.First of all, the game on the cart is still in version 1.0 and does not have any of the post launch updates pre-loaded on it. Purchased thinking it would be similar to Smash Bros but it’s a huge let down. Half the characters (25) and stages and that seem cheap and poorly thought out. The online matches never work. Maybe because not enough people play this trash. I’ll spend the extra money for a more polished game. Selling asap since I’ll never play it again.
This smash alternative or nickelodeon game with different characters from other franchises. Very fun and enjoyable with friends and family. I just purchased this at Elk Grove. I purchased at a cash register and the woman employee recognized it as similar to smash. Goes to show people remember their childhood memories. Wanted to get a physical copy. My two younger sisters love the music and characters. You can change controls that suits your playstyle. Considering that it's 50 bucks, I'm not sure I would say it's worth that price but I do know that the game does it job as similar to smash bros type of game. So if you want to get this game, I would suggest for those that are huge fan of smash bros or nickelodeon shows and characters.
