Within the first 100 yards in my first run in the AF's I could tell that these were going to be different than any other running shoe I've ever worn in so many ways: fast, comfortable, fast, great ride/transition, fast, springy, fast, lighter than expected, fast, very good grip on wet pavement, fast...........did I say fast? Just walking around in these shoes before my first run they just didn't feel right compared to my Vaporfly 4%, Zoom Fly Flyknits for Turbo 2's: too tall, bulky, ugly (bright mango colorway is pretty hideous). However, these shoes take on a totally different personality when you actually start to run in them.First mile warm up at normal cadence the NRC app was telling me something I couldn't believe as I was 30 seconds faster without doing ... MoreWithin the first 100 yards in my first run in the AF's I could tell that these were going to be different than any other running shoe I've ever worn in so many ways: fast, comfortable, fast, great ride/transition, fast, springy, fast, lighter than expected, fast, very good grip on wet pavement, fast...........did I say fast? However, these shoes take on a totally different personality when you actually start to run in them.First mile warm up at normal cadence the NRC app was telling me something I couldn't believe as I was 30 seconds faster without doing anything different. I was not planning to set a PB as I just wanted to get a feel for them first time out, but as I picked up the pace further into the run I got faster and faster as you can feel the shoes push/spring you forward. Sub 1:43 broke my 13.1 mile PB by 2 minutes (Revel half marathon my real previous PB down a mountain was broken by 4 seconds, but I consider that gravity aided and I was 3 years younger!) and was not at max effort. My legs and feet after the run were still "fresh," if you will, and the next day I didn't have the soreness that I usually get after runs this long. Absolutely amazing! Now, the hardest part of my review: the durability. I looked down during cool down and saw that a piece of tread on the rear of the left shoe had come unglued. What a major disappointment after just the first run and the $$$ spent on these shoes. I will applaud Nike for their 60 day return policy, though. On the suggestion during a live chat with a Nike rep, I purchased another pair and sent the defective shoes back for credit to expedite getting these shoes back on my feet in time for a scheduled Sunday long run. Otherwise, you will have to wait longer for Nike to receive the shoes back before processing the exchange.Should have been a 5 Star rating as these shoes are unlike anything I have ever run in and well worth the price if you are a serious runner (can you say "BQ"?). Already received the 2nd pair, so I hope I have a positive experience on the "2nd" run.

When you first put these shoes on you know that you're ready to run. The first thing you notice is the spring and responsiveness that you get from the Carbon Plate that is through out the sole, this is probably my favorite feature. The second thing you will notice or maybe not notice is the weight. They have a super light foam padding and a minimalistic AlphaFly Knit. The Knit is very breathable and feels great. The AlphaFly Knit is also forgiving. I have boarder line wide feet and the Knit really helps hold on to your feet. I normally wear a 9 in Nike and the shoes I have are 9.5. It has a fast and aerodynamic design, that just makes if feel like you are just slicing through the air. I did have one issue with the aerodynamic design and that was the elongated sole under the heal. I had to try really hard to keep a good running form and if I didn't I would scuff my heal on the ground or the tread.Last thing I would to say is that these shoes are defiantly for running. They have great rebound and support like everyone would want in a shoe. But the arch support and sole design are not made for everyday use. They are setup specifically for running and will keep you moving stride after stride.

These shoes might be the perfect shoe for someone looking to go on a jog in town, run in the gym, or prepare and run for a marathon but they are not for the average person. I found these a little small for my feet but to be fair to the company, I usually need a wide shoe. Once I got them on though I could immediately see what they were designed for. It felt like I was walking on a cloud and I had an instant spring in my step. They also were very breathable so that is a definite plus. If I were a daily jogger I think I would greatly appreciate them but I do not recommend wearing these anywhere else. They are designed in such a way that cushion lifts you up by a few inches, which is fine for running but I would not wear these to lift weights or to the grocery store. They are basically designed for running and running alone, so if that is what you are after then this is what you need!

The Air ZOOM Alpha Fly is a well-fitting and fun shoe with a lot of bounce that feels great for distance running. The netting-like top of the shoe makes it breathe more than any running shoe I've had before, which is great if you're putting in the miles that come with a lot of heat and sweat. It's cushion/sole is huge with a lot of bounce. It felt weird to wear when I first put it on. While I know the cushion size of running shoes has exploded in recent years, I hadn't tried one this big before. Because I have had some knee issues through the years and I like to run at least 20 miles/week, I like a lot of cushion on my running shoes. After wearing it for several runs of 3, 4, 6, and 7 miles, I ended up really enjoying it. It has more "bounce" than the shoes I usually get. It kind of pushes you forward. I had good paces with my runs. However, I feel weird trying to do speed workouts with them. i stand so high with my heels over two inches off the ground, and the bounce is great for distance but feels weird sprinting with such a long reaction to the pavement.Lastly, it's SUPER brightly colored and chunky looking. I've gotten to an age where I get a pair of cushiony shoes for walking around in... these are too big and bright to work for that. So, overall, I think it's a great shoe for distance running. I wouldn't recommend it for speed work or wearing on a casual friday, but I really like it for putting in the miles with a bounce and (what I feel like) is less pressure on the knees/joints.I'm a 36 year old dude who's been running since high school who runs at least 20 miles/week with an average pace of 8:30/mile, and lately I've been buying two pairs of running shoes each year.
I'm a dad who is trying to get back into running. I'm a little bit overweight but I love training consistently and running in the mornings. And this shoe is great, but I think it might be a little bit too much shoe for me. Let me explain:My initial reaction was that the color and the look of the shoe aren't exactly "cool," but I'm a 37 year old dad who has long given up on looking cool. Besides, the color grows on you and the sole LOVES running.Putting the shoe on, it feels really light. It was tough to get on right away because i have a wide forefoot, the hole is small, and these run a little bit narrow for me.Once on, it feels great on the foot and since it fits snugly for the most part (I'll explain below), you could forget you were even wearing shoes. And I would have except for the fact that the shoe is so FAST. They has the perfect amount of spring without feeling squishy. I would say they will feel even faster and springier once I lose ten more dad-pounds. After I stood up in them for the first time it took a second to get my balance. I wasn't used to such a thick sole. But I quickly adjusted and grew to really appreciate the stability and the way the soles feel on the ground and gently guide my body down the pavement.Walking in the shoe is comfortable, but it's hard to do because they practically beg you to run. I could tell that running is what these shoes are meant for because that's when they felt best. I was afraid the rubber on the forefoot wouldn't grip well in cold weather, but I found that it gripped just fine in cold and kind-of-cold conditions. I'm a heal striker and I thought the AlphaFly definitely worked with my style and probably even enhanced it and encouraged good form. When I get home after runs I don't want to take them off. They're so comfortable and my feet love them even though they're a little tight.Like I said, I hated the orange color at first, but after running in the dark, early mornings it grew on me. It's nice and visible without grating on the eyes. The shoelaces, synthetic woven upper, and no-tongue design are really cool. Together, they allowed me snug the shoe on with out too much effort. One thing I did notice was that when I ran in cold weather (I had a 19 degree morning and a 27 degree morning) the shoe seemed to "relax" a little--and not in a good way. Even though they were snug in my forefoot (I have wide feet), I could still feel the balls of my feet moving around. If I was in better shape I'm sure I would have gotten a blister. But it was cold and I'm not in great shape so I only did about 4 miles. They performed perfectly at 40 degrees and 52 degrees. So I think that maybe the synthetic material just isn't as flexible in that kind of cold weather. I'm excited to see how they do this summer since the woven upper is really airy and cool. I included a picture of the post-27 degree run and my wide forefoot little toe sticking out a little.Overall I would definitely recommend this shoe as a high-performance, race shoe. They're comfortable, light, springy, and FAST. I wish they were easier to get on, but I also appreciate that not having the traditional tongue is probably what makes them meld so well to my feet. The look of the shoe isn't right for everyone, but it's exactly right for race day. For my level of competitiveness it's too much shoe--But I love them and no you can't have them :-) I will DEFINITELY be putting a lot of miles on in these shoes and telling my friends to get a pair if they're serious about running fast.
I'm a very active late 30's father of one who is always on the go. I go through an average of 2-3 pairs of high end running shoes each year. When comparing these size 11.5 to other brands they are spot on in lenght. I'm very pick about my shoes and thoroughly research before making a purchase and the fit is very importantto me. There are pros and cons to the Air Zoom Alphafly Next%. Pros: thick cushy sole that provides good support when running and jogging on hard surfaces, a wide toe box, good traction, responsive feel that provides comfortable support to the heal and fore foot, and a nice breathable mesh so your feet don't sweat as much as other running shoes. Cons: the arch is incredibly narrow and too high, the mesh upper doesn't feel very durable, and there is not a separate tongue so it was a little difficult to get the shoe on since I have a fairly wide foot. I also felt the color was a little too bright. Overall, I feel that the shoe has a well made and durable sole with good traction but you must have a very high, narrow arch. The Air Zoom Alphafly Next% would be great for long distance running on any hard surface or for cardio and light weight training becauseof the support it provides, the traction, and the comfortable fore foot area. The upper portion needs to feel a little more sturdy and the arch needs to be a tad wider and ergonomic as it was not comfortable for this part of my feet.
The fit and finish of this shoe is exactly what you would expect for a pair at this price point, and the performance is worth every dollar. The feel you get off the pavement is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before—it feels like you have springs propelling you forward with every stride! Running has never felt so effortless. The shoe is well constructed out of premium materials and right out of the box you can tell that they were built to perform. The width of my feet is average, but with most athletic type shoes I find myself going up a full size due to an uncomfortably small toe-box—this was not the case with the AlphaFly’s which fit perfectly in my normal shoe size. Some may find the colorway too aggressive for their liking but personally, I’m a big fan ... MoreThe fit and finish of this shoe is exactly what you would expect for a pair at this price point, and the performance is worth every dollar. It’s rare that a pair of shoes would get anyone excited, but this shoe looks as fast as it feels, even when stationary!Though the shoe is extremely comfortable, I wouldn’t say they are for daily wear—this is definitely a race-day shoe meant for maximum performance. I can’t comment on long term durability, but the lack of substantial rubber on the heel section leads me to think I’d burn through the soles in no time if these were an every day pair. However, if you want to look your best while you perform your best, look no further than the Air Zoom AlphaFly Next% shoes!
This shoe was amazing - unlike any shoe I've ever worn. It was incredibly comfortable and I felt great running it in immediately. I'm very impressed. Background - I am an exercise enthusiast who typically runs around a 5k/day and stretches to half marathons but not often. Lately with young kids I can't run as frequently so when I do it feels a bit like starting over. I've reviewed shoes under this premise in the past and it can make it a challenge to get through the break in period, but these shoes were great from day 1.Fit and feel. These shoes give a very minimalist and snug feel, largely due to the thin fabric used. I personally like that feel so it worked well for me. These shoes give a very minimalist and snug feel, largely due to the thin fabric used. I personally like that feel so it worked well for me. It also feels like the sole of the shoe is very thick (it is) so I felt strangely tall when I first put them on. They are also very soft/springy - which was something I'm not as used to. I normally go with a firmer shoe when I run so I was curious how this would work for me.Running. Like I mentioned, once I got out and started running these shoes were incredible. I felt great from the first step until the last and I'm ready to go again. They are soft and springy but I didn't mind that at all. I would say my runs were just that - running. I didn't do much change of direction or quick pivots - I wonder how well the shoe would respond under those conditions...my assumption is not great because of the soft nature of the shoe - I think this is for long runs. But if you want to run a long ways? Best shoe I've ever used.Style. These shoes grab your attention. They are BRIGHT orange for one, and the discontinuity in the sole is quite striking. These look like a serious shoe for a very focused use (running). Would I wear them around casually? I don't think they'd be uncomfortable, but I'll probably grab other shoes for everyday walking around and save these for real runs. They just seem like too much of a shoe to be used casually. What I like best. High level, I love the 'focus' of this shoe. It's made for running - and it makes absolutely no apologies for that. They grab your attention, like running shoes tend to do, and the minimalist and snug top fit is my preference and the soft/springy sole of the shoe kept me running well past my target distance. It's a supreme example of having the right equipment for the right job makes all the difference in the world. If you are a runner it's hard to say you could spend your money in a better way. What I don't like. Being such a focused shoe has its drawbacks. Most of my running shoes I think are just fine to wear out and about causally, but this shoe to me seems too focused to be a causal out and about shoe. I doubt that was the intent given their design, but I'm guessing many people are used to doubling their running shoes with casual wear so it's a fair warning to those type of people. Also, if someone doesn't want a soft/springy ride then they might want to look elsewhere.I've said it before in this review, but I am massively impressed with these shoes. They definitely are an eye opener in terms running shoe technology. I can't look at other running shoes now without comparing them to these.
Wow! The engineers at Nike have thought of every detail, creating the finest running shoe ever made with this Nike Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT% Flyknit Ekiden. I don't know how they could possibly improve this shoe. It's perfect.First thing I noticed is how feather-light they are. Light, yet strong and stable. By far the softest ride I've ever experienced. My feet and ankles feel safe and secure, while simultaneously staying super comfortable. The upper material molds to my foot: Strong, light, supple, flexible, durable, breathable, cool, dry. Though the upper is secure enough to use without laces, the laces are cleverly offset to the side, to keep them off the bony part of top of foot. This is the shoe to get. It's expensive, but well worth it.
These shoes are the most comfortable running shoes I have ever worn. The large cushion on the base of the shoe was much larger than I expected, this took me a while to get used to. I did not like the way the bottom of the shoe looked, but it did provide much more comfort on longer runs compared to my other running shoes. They feel springy and lightweight and I felt like my run was a bit faster in these.I was not a fan of the design at all. I found the color to be much more vibrant in person than the images on the website. Also, I really did not like the sharp point on the heel of the shoe and the bulkiness. I did like that the top of the shoe is a mesh like material and they breathe very well while running.I thought the Nike Alphafly is super comfortable for all ... MoreThese shoes are the most comfortable running shoes I have ever worn. I have a pretty flat foot and these provided tons of support for both long runs and just normal everyday activities. I really like the feel of these shoes overall, the Alphafly is a phenomenal shoe for running long distance. I would much prefer a more muted color and a rounded heel, but these are much better than the running shoes I wore previously.
