I initially purchased a pair of Tempos late last year, I'm an experienced runner and put anywhere from 70-80 miles a week in training shoes. While these shoes are comfortable, they have a MAJOR design flaw. The original pair I had purchased developed structural cracking behind the air pods, the slim "bridge" between the air pods and the midsole of the lower (about 180 miles of wear). This was about a 3" crack, only on the right shoe. Nike customer service took them back, evaluated and provided me a refund to get another pair (I was pleasantly surprised). Come to later last week I bairly hit 200 miles in the "replacement" Tempos and sure enough the same thing happened again. However this time more catastrophic. So the same thing has happened in two different pairs of shoes (all i'm running on is solid, smooth pavement, no gravel or trail). I feel this design flaw needs to be addressed otherwise it'll never be right. Would be 5 stars without the structural issues in my opinion.

I love these shoes so much. I have to save for my second pair. I will say when I first got them I was hesitant because they were a little tight but after a few runs they formed to my foot. This is my favorite shoe ever. I see a lot of reviews how the sole gets a little worn out, my sole got a few slits but it didn’t make a difference. I got about 170 miles out of these before I threw them out. Quite honestly though I could have gotten a whole lot more out of them. I only threw them out because I got vapor flys but I have been wanting my tempos back.

Bought the pinks. That color pops on the track. Sz 10 mens is 9.6 oz per shoe. Fit is great and comfortable. A lot of rubber on the bottom soles. I prefer normal or thin socks. I use them on the track for sprints and long tempo runs only. Not an everyday walking shoe. The spring in them is an A. If you have wide feet it will be a difficult fit. The noise is real but not dreadful. I can see how some people maybe annoyed by the sound but the noise decrease over time with wear. Looks cool, feel good, run harder shoe. Solid trainers for 3k, 5k and 10k.

So I have been running for 48 years now, so I know shoes. I've been with Nike for most of the time, with two times in the last ten years trying another brand only to become injured within the first run, while trying those two other brands. The arch in the Nike shoes is just perfect, for my running style, which is I glide instead of pounding. The tread on the Nike shoes has become a problem with durability in the last 7 years, as I now have to apply heated glue to the rear of the tread in about three to four weeks from receiving the shoes. That is the sore point with the shoes, The glue I keep applying every three to four days to keep the shoes performing where I need them to be. I replace the shoes every three months or so, as they start to break down and the tread ... MoreSo I have been running for 48 years now, so I know shoes. That is the sore point with the shoes, The glue I keep applying every three to four days to keep the shoes performing where I need them to be. I replace the shoes every three months or so, as they start to break down and the tread is just too far gone in the back. I wish Nike would use a more robust tread, but the ride of the shoes is awesome, so I'm done trying other brands, as have not had good results with the other brands. I run about five miles per day, pretty much every day. Competed in Junior High, High School, Military and College, so kind of know what I'm talking about.
Pros: Very bouncy, fast, and overall quick shoe to run in. I have raced multiple 5K races in these and they performed every time.Cons: Durability is horrible, I own two pairs, and on each, the rubber on the bottom between the "airpods" and the main body of the shoe has broken between 100-200 miles. They are loud, and their shape makes it sound like you are clomping along at any speed it's especially bad on pavement. The laces are bad, too short, and they come undone if you do not double not them.It is hard to get your foot in even if they are the correct size due to the upper material and upper design.
I've run roughly 30 miles in these shoes. I was very excited for these and was pumped when I got sent a pair for free! They were great. I've run everywhere from 5Ks to 10 mile runs. I felt a nice pop during my run through the plate. The addition of zoom pods was a nice change from what I'm used to running in. I was able to make several PRs using the Tempo Next%.However, I had 2 major issues with the shoe. The first issue is one that seemed to bother other runners as well. The heel of the shoe dug into the achilles area too much. This didn't bug me much for 5Ks, however, anything > 4 miles, I would start to feel the achilles rub against the heel. By the end of longer runs, my skin was sensitive due to the repeated friction. Because of this, I would only run in the ... MoreI've run roughly 30 miles in these shoes. This didn't bug me much for 5Ks, however, anything > 4 miles, I would start to feel the achilles rub against the heel. By the end of longer runs, my skin was sensitive due to the repeated friction. Because of this, I would only run in the shoe 1 time per week to allow my skin time to recover. The 2nd issue is one that might just be specific to myself as someone with wide feet. The upper was just too tight for me. In comparison to the atomknit on the Alphafly, it was much more stiff. The Alphafly was perfect for my wide feet and the upper was very comfortable yet supportive. As the Tempo is supposed to be the training partner for the Alphafly, I'd expect there to be similar uppers.Other than these 2 issues, the combination of zoom pods and zoomX foam is amazing. I absolutely love running in my Alphaflys for any distance. I just with that the Tempo was a tad bit roomier, and the heel didn't dig into my achilles.
I run about 100 miles a month - Mid 8 range, sometimes a touch quicker. I bought a pair of the Zoom Tempos off the website sight unseen. I knew it said they are snug/run small so ordered a size I usually wear in another brand that are also snug. They fit, but you should not hesitate to order a half or full size up. I've actually taken the laces off the shoes to make them feel a bit better which helped - They don't slip off or anything. I also ordered a pair of gel achilles guards because of a blister I could tell was emerging and that helped as well (I have Haglund's so I am prone). But let me now talk about the speed - My goodness - I've never in my life worn a pair of shoes that made a difference like this. My per mile time dropped 30 seconds instantly without any feeling of additional effort. Truly unreal what a difference these shoes make. I wore my (nice) pair of New Balance the other day to mix it up and felt like I was running in rocks. The Zoom Tempos truly feel like they're propelling you forward with each cushioned step. I don't care how snug they are, I will find a way to wear these shoes and subsequent pairs because they are making that big of a difference for me.
I have been running and training in the Zoom Tempo NEXT% for over a month now and over 70+, which I believe is the right break-in time and distance.Fit: The shoe fits true to size in my opinion with the right amount of toe room andsecure heel cushioning to prevent heel slippage. The toe box is wider than the the Vaporfly Flyknit NEXT% and mesh versions--which is nice as it gets your toes a change to spread out a bit each strike.Traction: Very secure traction that is great on wet roads, rubber tracks and even trails--deep grooves.Pronation: The nice thing about this shoe that I noticed compared to other NEXT% shoes is that there is a large piece of react foam on the medial side of the heel that helps runners that may overpronate like me. It helps to push your foot and knee out with each strike and adds a lot of support. Similar to what I experienced with the React Infinity Run.Comfort: The shoe is a bit stiff and feels a bit awkward at first but breaks it. It is much more rigid than some of the other NEXT% shoes but not uncomfortable. You really do feel those two zoom pods in the forefoot with each strike. It was not as comfortable as the Vaporfly but also very different in set up (pods and react).Tempo: The one thing I noticed with the tempo is that it is similar to driving a car on cruise control. If I wanted to stick a mile that was around 7 minutes--it helped to consistently stay at that pace for several miles. If I wanted to really sprint it out and get into the 6s, it helped to stay there as well.Overall: I definitely recommend this shoes for training and short races like 5Ks or 10Ks.
Not going to lie here, I went into this shoe with pretty low expectations. I wasn't a fan of the zoom fly series and couldn't see where this shoe would fit into my rotation. I couldn't see myself picking this over a vaporfly/alpha fly for long and/or harder efforts. It's too unstable for trails and too cumbersome for track workouts. And for easy runs I didn't think I'd want a shoe with a plate (I'm a big fan of having different types of shoes in my rotation to stimulate the muscles in my legs/feet differently). However, I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong, and I was totally wrong when it came to easy efforts in this shoe. I get that "tempo" is in the name of the shoe because it's designed to work at faster paces, and truthfully it does works fine at higher speeds. ... MoreNot going to lie here, I went into this shoe with pretty low expectations. However, I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong, and I was totally wrong when it came to easy efforts in this shoe. I get that "tempo" is in the name of the shoe because it's designed to work at faster paces, and truthfully it does works fine at higher speeds. It's just that, like noted above, Nike has better options for those type of runs. But it's a totally serviceable easy-day shoe because the plate feels like it's there solely for rigidity and keeping the shoe from getting too sloppy with that much cushioning underfoot. FWIW I'm a forefoot/midfoot striker, and even at slower paces it didn't feel like the shoe was overly rigid and preventing my feet from flexing more naturally (like what you would see in an epic react or peg turbo). I don't want a shoe that feels like it wants to go fast for easy days, and truthfully I don't think the tempo does. It works just fine at slower speeds.I've seen a fair share of negative reviews for this shoe online, and from my vantage point, this feels like the same issue that Nike had when the peg turbo first came out. And that issue is expectations -- this shoe is a training shoe. It's not a race day shoe. So it's not going to feel like a vaporfly or alphafly. It may share some of the same technologies and take design cues from those shoes, but it is neither of those shoes. It's heavier, less aggressive, and somewhat clunky feeling on feet (although not as bad as the zoom fly 2, it does have a weight distribution issue since the upper is a lot lighter than the rest of the shoe). But it is by no means a bad shoe. I very much enjoyed my time running in this shoe and believe it is definitely a step up over the zoom fly series. I still think that the peg turbo was an overall better training shoe, but the tempo does an admirable job trying to fill the void left by the discontinuation of the turbo.
