I like the runner's version better their cooler for me at the gym over the 5-, & 7-inch inseam. Their colorful in a masculine tone. I realized most of my workout clothes are black or navy, so I invested in many tops that are bright reds. burgundys. teals, rich greens...but trying to find shorts in my size XXL-XXXL that were stylish & yet comfortable was a challenge I really like these Nike's and intend to look for more of them next time I'm in a Dicks.

Constricting on the ole boys.

Upon receiving these beauts I was excited to give them a try as I typically really love a good pair of swishy, lightweight, loungey summer shorts. Though it's winter here in MN I still gave em a shot around the house. Either way I'm not a runner so my review wouldn't have been much different in the summertime. The material seemed nice and flowey, very light weight. However, upon putting them on the liner part really decided it wanted to ride right into the ole cracks and crevices. It was downright uncomfortable. I really wanted to like them. I received a size large which is usually what I wear as a regular dad bod type of guy. Yes the length is short but I'm cool with that so i can work on my tan. Probably the best part about these shorts is their light weight. ... MoreUpon receiving these beauts I was excited to give them a try as I typically really love a good pair of swishy, lightweight, loungey summer shorts. Overall, these shorts are meant for running. They allow for adequate movement and stay in place without bunching up in the groin. Now with that said, I wouldn’t recommend these for lifting/ resistance/ CrossFit training. The shorts seem to have been truly developed for running. Movements involving deep squats/ standing/ sitting/ performing lunges really feel awkward.I feel as if the side pockets are only meant for temporary holding of items, running with anything in them is not comfortable and therefore not recommended. The rear “pocket” with a single button to hold a key is a nice feature.

LIttle Things Mean a Lot in Value

I have bought lots of workout shorts in my life. A twice-yearly fitness test is part of my job, so I need workout clothes that fit well, hold up in all kinds of conditions, and travel well. These are lined fitness shorts like many others in the category. However, these shorts functioned very well, and while similar to other fitness shorts it was the little details that really set these apart. For example the lining of these shorts was very comfortable. It was not as loose as other brands and yet wasn't constricting. It fit very well around the legs. I could see going for a ride or run and then swimming in them afterwards. The drawstring in the elastic waist was flat and not round. The ends of the drawstring were sewn down so they wouldn't fray after a lot of use. ... MoreI have bought lots of workout shorts in my life. Also, there were comfortable pockets that allowed me to carry stuff like my phone and keys easily to work out and leave a bulky gym bag behind. The length was a good length. They were slightly longer than some gym shorts, but shorter than basketball shorts. This made them ideal for running as well as indoor activity. The material is also very light feeling, but very sturdy. The "dry" material was really good at wicking away moisture. It isn't a complicated product; shorts + liner, and yet when you pay attention to the design details, like these shorts do, it makes all the difference and creates real value.

Love feel but hikes up while sitting
31 August 2022

Feel great while running but buyer beware of how they hike up while sitting in car. Also if you have anything in shorts the pockets will hang out. Somebody in reviews mentioned that pockets are longer than shorts but didn't understand until wearing them in my car that has leather seats. Don't know if this will happen in other situations but it did in my car making me feel a little awkward when with others lol. But if you don't care, these are great shorts. Love otherwise.

Great shorts for walking or light physical activity not recommended for high intensity workouts. At 5’9”, 192 pounds, with a 34 inch waist, the Nike Challenger shorts fit perfectly around the waist. I would get a large if your waist is over 34 inches. They also provide excellent support. The shorts fall just above the knees. The side pockets lay flat when worn even with muscular legs—comfortable for the hands and deep enough to hold your cell. The rear pocket fastens with a plastic snap. While large enough for a credit card, energy gel, or a car key, I don’t recommend putting anything in it as the pocket doesn’t really close securely. While admirable the shorts are more sustainably made, they are not stretchy enough for my workout routines. I have used them for functional fitness (squats, deadlifts, jump squats, rear lunges, etc.), yoga, spinning, and running. They limit mobility and catch at inconvenient times.Overall the shorts fit very well and would be perfect for light activity. The fabric isn’t stretchy, but it feels quite durable and yet lightweight. If you work out hard, these are not the best shorts for you.

Nike Challenger 7” shorts, a little long for my liking
3 March 2021

I tried the Nike Challenger 7” running short in a size medium. They fit true to size but did balloon up/bunch a bit in the crotch area when you move. I found this strange, I have tons of Nike shorts and have never had this problem. It may have something to do with the 7” length, but I’m not sure. I typically wear a bit of a shorter inseam but if a longer short is what you are looking for then these fit the bill. I figured it was worth trying the 7”, the add some variety into my running wardrobe, but I think the shorter length is better for my body type. Regardless, it wasn’t a flaw in the shorts, just not my personal preference. In terms of fabric, these shorts feel great! Very light, airy, and dry quickly, just what I have come to expect from Nike running shorts. The color, a deep burgundy, is fun, a little more interesting than black but still neutral (and I don’t have tons of shorts this color so I like that they are different). My favorite feature was the detail venting on the bottom of legs, it gave the shorts a nice look and made motion very easy.I didn’t love the back stash pocket on these shorts. Usually there is a little zipper that closes the little stash pocket but instead they put a button to close the pocket. This was not a great design as when I was stretching after my run the button dug into my back. Also thought it wasn’t the wisest design in terms of function as the button behind me wasn’t as easy to unfasten, a zipper is a much better design in my opinion.Overall, the Nike Challenger 7” short are a solid running short choice. May not be my top rated pair but will definitely be in my favored rotation!

Bought these for my son. He's 5 ft 11 in. And 185lbs. I bought the Large and they are perfect. He likes his shorts short. That's the style right now. They are made of great material and wash very well. Construction is great.(Sewage). They do have the lining on the inside. I was happy to find them on sale which is always nice.

Stretch and Comfort
2 March 2021

The Nike Challenger Shorts I have are a men's size small. I typically wear a women's size small or size 2-4. These fit me true to size around the waist with the longer length I expect from a men's style short. For these reasons I would say they run a bit small in men's sizing. These shorts tout a thin ribbed waistband with plenty of stretch and Comfort. There are two deep side pockets and a small pocket under the waistband in the back. The small pocket would easily fit a car key and cash. The side pockets fit a standard size smartphone but I would not recommend running in these shorts with anything in the side pockets. The fabric was thin and breathable. The overall length of the shorts was almost knee length on me.Very comfortable for walking but the mesh liner made running less desirable. Perfect style shorts for warmer weather. Would recommend overall for leisurly athletic activities.

These shorts were made for runnin, and that's just about all they'll do.

Long story short, these shorts are incredibly light, comfy to wear on a long, hot run, give way in all the right places, and give support where it's important. The bikini brief style liner leaves a lot to be desired though. In other words, these are great pants for the right person, but unfortunately that's not me.Let's get the negatives out of the way first. The liner needs help. This is my first experience with a brief style liner and I am not a fan. My thighs rub when I run and these shorts do not provide any relief from that. Unless you're sporting a thigh gap make sure you pack the body glide or it'll be chafe-city. The liner doe's have some things going for it though. It's supportive without being restrictive, yet feels like nothings there. To channel my inner Edna, "it breathes like Egyptian cotton" which is great on the road. But you better be changing ASAP, cause it'll smell like a locker room in no time. These shorts do not even make an attempt at odor protection. And I can't walk away without mentioning the almost useless rear pocket. It's big enough for a standard smartphone (leave the phablet at home). The snap button closure is impossible to fumble with while on the move though, so I don't trust my phone in there.Let's end on a positive note now. These are some of the lightest shorts I've ever worn. It's like running au naturale. And yet, I always feel supported and never strapped down, even at max speed. The fit is perfect. I'm 6'0", 193 lb. I wore an XL and thanks to the lengthy drawstring they felt great. I definitely could have worn a size L and still felt as good. All in all I would definitely suggest these shorts to running men who are accustomed to briefs, or are willing to wear compression shorts underneath.
