The 1970s is arguably the golden-era of Nike footwear, the decade birthed some of Nike’s most iconic running shoes which still go on to inspire their designs over 40 years later. Similar in design to some of the Oregon-based brand’s other classic styles – namely the LDV and Air Tailwind ’79 – the Daybreak boasts an early revolutionary piece of Nike tech: the Waffle outsole. Few brands are commended for their outsoles, but back in the ’70s, Nike founder Bill Bowerman’s quest for a sole that wouldn’t lose grip on a range of surfaces led to the invention of the iconic Waffle outsole. The tale of its invention has gone down in footwear folklore: apparently, Bill’s eureka moment came while sitting at breakfast table over a plate of waffles. Experimenting with swapping out batter for urethane, the waffle-iron made outsole was a game-changer, providing glue-like grip on a range of running surfaces. Known as a pioneering Nike silhouette, the Daybreak was constructed with a nylon and suede upper, simple foam midsole and Waffle-bottom outsole. Recognized for its irreverent color combinations, the Daybreak arrives 40 years later with modern updates while staying true to the original silhouette.

Love love love the trainers. These are my 4th pair as I walk everywhere to get my step count up!! They are extremely comfortable and keep my feet warm and relatively dry in Scottish weather. Nike seem to have discontinued the black so I had to use StockX to get my 4th pair! Great service!

I purchased these in the white and metallic silver, and they are adorable! I love a good sparkle, which is why I decided on the metallic, and they have just the right amount without overdoing it. I have the Nike Daybreaks in many colors. They are comfortable and easy to wear. I am typically a size 9.5 in all Nike shoes, but always end up with a size 9 in Daybreaks. They tend to run a little spacious in the toe box, which is why I size down a 1/2 size. It isn't a massive difference, but it definitely looks sleeker on your foot with the smaller size.

.... you can wear these! I'm always bummed that these retro styles rarely fit my square-ishly wide feet. They're usually too narrow and stiff. Based on the reviews, I decided to take a chance on the Daybreaks, even going down to my true 7.5 size, instead of sizing up to 8 or 8.5 for more width. And holy cats, they fit, and comfortably! They have good cushion, nice flexibility in the toe box (even accommodating a pretty sizeable bunion) and no heel slippage. Now I need to buy, like 3 more colors before they disappear. :) So happy to have found these!
I adore them!! Their vintage look, how comfy they are. I recently purchased them as a birthday present for myself. I took them with me on my vacation trip, spent hours and days walking around and I never felt pain on my feet, It feels as if you are walking on a cloud. I also use them to walk at the park and the treadmill. I definitely adore them! Wish they had more colors but this creamy one is beautiful!!
Great experience all around. My shoes came really fast. I ordered my normal size and they fit perfectly. There is a weird little flap on the inside where the tongue is attached but I just pulled the laces out and cut the flap off with scissors. Now they are perfect. I wore them all day immediately with no problems. My feet are wide so this isn't usually the case. If you have narrow feet these might be sloppy for you. Great price, fast service,Perfect fit, super cute, 5 stars.
Super comfortable. I get compliments every time I wear them. They are pretty much everyday shoes. I sprayed them with that weather protector and the white is still very white! I really wan t another pair. I do think they are just a tad too big. I will get a smaller size for the next pair.
As always, Nikes run small, so order up at least a half size. I bought these in the black with white trim at the Seattle store for walking around the city... The shoes I had brought were killing my feet, so I needed something quick. These are stylish, and still felt comfortable after walking multiple miles in a day.
I have had my eye on these beauties for a while. Being a fan of the 80’s, these were right up my street. Look super cool and will go with any outfit. Got a great price too. Went half a size down as per reviews. Perfect. But have to say that the best thing is how extremely comfy these trainers are. Like walking on a cloud. I’ve done about 40,000 steps around Paris in 2 days and my feet are not hurting at all. Miracle trainers. Buy them - you won’t regret it!
I ordered the size I typically wear in similar Nike shoes but these seem kinda long. I am trying the next half-size down to see if that fits better. So I can't really comment on the long-term comfort yet but they seem like they will be soft and comfy. Love the cute retro look. Hard to find gray sneakers so I had to have them! They will work with anything. Great for a long day walking or standing, exploring a city or wandering around museums. Wish they would make a version with a taller, chunky bottom sole. And a version with a darker gray because sometimes I want my shoes to blend in, not pop.
