Nike Metcon 9 Amp Phantom Black

The Nike Metcon 9 AMP Phantom Black is a workout shoe that upgrades previous versions of the Metcon by adding a rubber rope wrap for climbing ropes and a Hyperlift plate in the heel. The Hyperlift plate is larger than the one in previous models and provides stability during lower-body exercises. The upper is made of durable yet breathable mesh in Phantom, while the heel is covered in a woven textile material. The rubber rope wrap extends around the middle of the sneaker and is semi-translucent. It partially covers the black Swoosh on the outer side panel, which is one of two Swoosh logos on the sneaker. The midsole features soft foam on the inside and firm foam on the outside, while the rubber outsole has a traction pattern designed for dynamic exercises. Our StockX experts like the sneaker’s neutral colorway of Phantom, Light Bone, and black. The Nike Metcon 9 AMP Phantom Black was released on August 4, 2023, and retailed at $160.

I previously owned the Metcon 7 and these are an interesting step up. A nice, snug fit around the ankle offers a great deal of support, with a little room to move in the toe box. Impressed by the responsiveness and cushioning: they're springy and stable, but don't hurt your feet after a long workout. It's a high-performing shoe and it doesn't hurt that they look great too.

I've got over 30 Metcons in my CF arsenal, starting since the 4s. The Metcon 9 is by far the BEST trainer of all time. Why? Because it's wider overall base and forefoot creates more stability when preforming functional fitness movements, which gives the athlete confidence to push up the intensity during the WOD. The cushioning feels softer than the 7 or 8s, which is a good thing, but it doesn't compromise that need to feel locked in, as the heel/Achilles padding is also improved. I've completed two demanding workouts in the 9s, with gymnastics, barbell, and on the rig...this newest release can do it all, and better than previous versions. If you whine about extended running (over 800m) in ANY Brand CF trainer, you need running shoes for those workouts; these type of trainers are NOT geared for that type of stimulus.

Comfortable for training

I really liked the fit of the shoe the fit is perfect. At first they feel a bit thigh but as soon as you start training the shoe feels that it shapes to your feet and is cushioned to your feet and the most important that they feel light. I was able to run and trained with no issues. I really liked the fit of the shoe. Not only the shoe is durable but also light. The more I use them in training the more the shoe shapes to your feet and feel more comfortable. I also like the design as they are not only for training but I can also wear them during the day. These are by far the best Metcon shoe I have used for training.

Easy On, Easy Heel Slip
1 October 2024

Sturdy show. Looks cool. But I wish I wouldn’t have gotten the Easy On model. When I’m jumping around during training workouts it feels like my heels are slipping out because of the Easy On technology. It doesn’t offer a snug grip on my heel. Wish I would have got standard Metcons. But they’re fine for weightlifting and casual wear.

Great Redesign! Favorite Metcon for Lifting!
22 April 2024

This shoe is surprisingly my favorite METCON so far. I was not sure I would like the look but I definitely do like the looks. More importantly the stability of the shoe is very high for walking weighted lunges, squats, deadlifts. The materials of the upper shoe feel more dense as well. The new design of the toe box sole also feels more stable for exercises like calve raises. Great job on this redesign!

Impressive!

First pair of Metcons. Usually, I wear running shoes for my strength training sessions, as they’re very versatile for me. I’m fairly new to the crosstraining scene. I got into the crosstraining world during the pandemic, and I’ve always used running shoes then up until I tried the Metcon 9 Flyease, and I am IMPRESSED.FIT: True to Size. Size-wise, if you have regular to narrow feet like myself, going with your regular Nike size would be the best bet. I had just the right amount of toe allowance for foot splay (one thumb’s width). The Flyease feature is just as it sounds! You just slide your foot in without having to bend down and use your hands!FEEL: They feel light and breathable. I wish they had some sort of those signature Nike cushioning foams to take them over the top (Zoom Air or even React). Otherwise, in terms of responsiveness and comfort, they’re average.DESIGN: The shoe is constructed with mesh and a liner underneath. The shoe still well ventilated, and the upper material is flexible for a gray range of movements. The stripe accents along the medial toe look awesome! I also like the how the Swoosh is sectioned off due to the lateral counterpiece.COLORWAY: Black/Grey. Classic. I don’t really have to worry about getting these dirty. I wish there was a brighter color.STYLE: Of course, they’ll be used for crosstraining. However, you can wear these out to run your errands or even casually.SELLING POINTS: The EASE of putting them on! I really like how versatile the shoe is. You can use them all your routine exercises in crosstraining then wear them to go get groceries and other errands.IMPROVEMENT: One major area of improvement would be to utilize a more response foam/set-up. Forefoot Zoom Air and React combination would be incredible in a Metcon!OVERALL, the Metcon 9 has me impressed for my first crosstraining specific shoe. Their EASE of putting them on just makes me want to get into my workout already! They’re lightweight and breathable and can easily handle a great range of movements and exercises. However, one thing that they lack is that responsiveness that I’ve grown accustomed to with other running sneakers. Otherwise, I can finally give my running shoes a rest from crosstraining with these until Nike produces Metcon with my ideal set-up!

Metcon Flyease
8 July 2023

The Metcon 9 Flyease is a fantastic trainer. I have done multiple workouts in them and they have become my go to shoe for my workouts, specifically leg day. I feel I have the support and comfort that us needed to have very efficient leg days pertaining to squats, lunges, etc. Walking around in the Metcon is very comfortable. The design is very esthetic. I tried running in them, which I’m not sure if they are meant for that or not, but they didn’t have the flexibility for the most comfortable run on the treadmill and changing directions with sprints. That is my only critique of the Metcon. I thoroughly enjoy this product.

My nephew loves these!
1 September 2024

My nephew is 12 and still struggles to tie his shoes. It’s not that he doesn’t know how, he just has some dexterity issues in his hands. As he’s going into the 7th grade, I wanted him to have shoes that looked like everyone else’s sneakers, but that he wouldn’t have to keep tying. We looked EVERYWHERE and he decided on these. He loves them. I will say, I am disappointed that they still tie. It makes sense that they do so the shoe is the right tightness on the foot, but I just assumed they had elastic laces for some reason. He loves these though. In true Nike fashion they run an entire size smaller than most other shoe brands. This is his first ever name brand pair of sneakers because of his limitations and I hope you continue to expand your accessible shoe collection!

Super comfortable and very stable
23 April 2024

These are some of the best training shows I have ever worn. I have 5-6 generations of Nike Metcon training shoes and they just keep getting better. These have a very wide toe box and are stable, solid and supportive. They lace easily and have a nice step in heel and velcro tab over the lace knot. Really one of the best fitting shoes I have-especially for training. The grey is a great colorway and I got very positive comments the first time I wore them.

Very Durable
8 July 2023

NIKE METCON 9 FLYEASE are a good sneaker with its pros and cons. The colors black and white are bold in its colors! I love how the sneaker Nike symbol stands out, but not too much. NIKE METCON 9 FLYEASE can be paired with your workout or you can pair them with other outfits. These are good for lengthy walks or runs. I will add that if you have a more narrow foot you may feel discomfort until you have worn them for sometime. Other than that I love them and highly recommend!
