Designed for casual wear, the React Element 87 ‘Light Bone’ is defined by both the super-soft React midsole optimized for lightweight cushioning and an all-new translucent upper made from TPE yarn translucent textile. Mixed materials and exposed stitching can be found throughout but are particularly noticeable on the wavy, trail-style lacing system. A low-slung swoosh in tan and red accents round out this hybrid sneaker’s sporty look.

Online these look really nice. Once you get them you realize they are made of a very thin mesh. It is nearly impossible to get the tongue to lay with no wrinkles. I am a little O.C.D so I can't handle it. Also after about an hour of wear in my office they started to discolor. They seem to trap dust in between the mesh and the coating on the inside, which was odd because I had not wore them outside and only had them on for about an hour. But honestly the most annoying part of this shoe is that they squeak! They are the loudest shoes I have ever had! I don't know if other people have this issue or if it maybe is just my foot, but I promise you are not going to sneak up on anyone. I have been a big Nike advocate for as long as I can remember... and I do not write a lot of reviews. But these shoes while comfortable, have a ton of design flaws!

Cool and comfortable shoe, but not durable :(

I was drawn to these for the design and React foam cushioning. For sizing, they run long and a bit narrow (I wear AJ1 in 9.5 and Pegasus in 9.0). So, I stayed with a 9.0 and wear thinner socks. On feet, you can def feel the foam cushion in play. The only concern is the upper doesn't offer that much lateral stability. Then again it's a lifestyle sneaker. After 3 days, the narrow toe box was not a concern. But, I noticed the laminated toe box panel was coming apart. The material is supposedly breathable, but it seems to also retain some moisture/sweat. I'm starting to have some of the heel color fade/melt. And then notice the heel color rubbing off my insole and socks. It does make me consider if I should've got the Epic React Flyknit 2 instead. I watched quite a few YouTube videos prior to buying the shoe. I will say the shoe fits true to size. I am a size 9 and it fits perfectly to the toe, but not an uncomfortable fit. Definitely a lot better in person than on video, or pictures. Part of the shoe is transparent so you can change up the color a bit by the color of socks you wear. The shoe is a little bit snug, but nothing that you would have to get a larger size for, in my opinion. I bought a different color after this one arrived.

Looks Great, Doesn’t Feel Great
14 August 2020

I Iove the look and aesthetic design of the shoe but the upper is extremely narrow through the toe box. I sized up by a half size - normally wear an 8.5 ordered a 9, still immediately felt tingling tightness and numbing setting in from the very flat and narrow upper particularly through the halls of my feet through the toe bed. The support and cushion of the sole is awesome so it’s a shame the upper felt so constricting but the material provides no stretch - the upper is a plastic mesh that doesn’t have elastic give at all so not something that will eventually wear in or accommodate. Also skeptical that the thin plastic mesh will hold up well - seems very thin and prone to puncture or holes from wear. Have to return them even tho wish I didn’t...

Nice little upgrade over the Element 55
17 June 2020

I’ve had the Nike React Element 55 for almost a year now. They are about the most comfortable sneakers I’ve ever owned...but I wasn’t a fan of how easily the white outsole got dirty. The sneakers also felt a little on the cheap side.First thing I love about this particular colorway is the outsole (black and red). I’ve worn them outside several times and obliviously the dirt doesn’t show. The sneakers are SOOO breathable, which is amazing. When the wind blows, I could literally feel it on my feet. This is awesome in Florida. The sneakers also appear to be made with higher quality than the 55’s and the premium laces are a nice touch. I love How the sneakers look on foot. I’ve never found an all day long on your feet sneaker quite like these. Not sure I’m a huge fan ... MoreI’ve had the Nike React Element 55 for almost a year now. Highly recommended especially at this price point.

Nike React Element 87 Anthracite Black
27 January 2020

These are the most uncomfortable sneakers Ive ever bought by Nike. I wore them once and they gave me blisters on the bottom (ball of foot) and back (by Achilles tendon) of my feet. I removed the cork in sole and replaced it with another in sole from another pair of sneakers which was better for the bottom of my feet. I also applied bandaids to the back of my foot to protect against the scraping from the sneakers heel notch. It is made from a very hard and rigid nylon material. But I shouldnt have to do these things to such an expensive sneaker in order to wear them comfortably. The react sole is pretty bouncy and comfortable I think. Will have to see how it is with extended wear.

Perfect for any sneaker head!
7 June 2019

Was a little unsure at first given that the shoe is basically see through, but after throwing on some back no-shows these are on point. Absolutely love the colorway and they are super comfortable! Purchased two colors I liked them so much! They do run a little tight, but I am sure they will loosen up a little after a few wears. Can't go wrong with the 87's.

Solid running/walking shoe.
4 December 2023

I use this shoe for walking. I consistently walk 110-115 miles a month. These shoes are lightweight and have just enough padding and sole to last me 300-350 miles. I buy them LIGHTLY used and usually wear 4 pairs a year.

a very cool look with a slight trade off...
16 June 2020

these are comfortable to walk on and look cool too. the issue for me is just with the upper material. i like the transparency because its just a nice touch and with the right socks can make for a cool combo. but the mesh material just isnt ideal compared to something with a flyknit upper like the infinity run or even that nylon type stuff on the react presto. id still recommend them if the price is right though. another cool feature is the cork insole and the 3m.
