The first, classic model from the Nike Tuned series - Air Max Plus. First presented in 1998, it immediately became a great success and gained many fans around the world, as evidenced by its continuous production, the release of over several hundred colors, 11 models and limited editions, e.g. on the occasion of the Olympics. Sean McDowell was tasked with designing the Tuned 1. At the time, he had just returned from a vacation in Florida, and the brightening blue and yellow color scheme was inspired by the sunset. McDowell saw the stripes on the sides as the shape of palm trees against the sky. The cushioning system consists of a cushion with matched mechanical elements to ensure high efficiency of protection when in contact with the surface. Using hemispheres, the low-pressure Air Max unit specifically targets heel action, providing cushioning that is tailored to the needs of a variety of athletes and activities. The midsole is made of an extremely flexible material called Pebax. The hemispheres in the Tuned Air system rebound quickly when pressed. Variations in their thickness and placement guide the foot through the natural stepping process for flexibility and movement control.
