Nikon 8x30 Monarch HG Binoculars

The Nikon Monarch HG 8x30 Binoculars take the quality of the 42mm models and present them in a smaller, lighter size. The Monarch HG 8x30 binoculars weigh a mere 15.9 ounces while providing wide 435' field of view at 1000 yds. In our tests, they performed better than their nominal 6.6' close focus and had a relatively deep field of focus, aided by field flattener eyepiece lenses. Eye relief is 16.2mm. A locking diopter ring prevents diopter drift. The Extra-low Dispersion (ED) objective lenses do an excellent job of reducing chromatic aberration, and are protected from scratches by Nikon's Armor Lens Coating. All lenses are fully multi-coated for improved light transmission The magnesium alloy body is rubber armored, waterproof and fogproof.

Very satisfied with these binoculars. Certainly seem as good as the more expensive Swarovski 8x30s. Small enough to use when Im out with my 500mm f4 lens and DSLR.

Superb Binoculars!!

These are absolutely superb in every way and rank right up there with binoculars costing 2x-3x as much. These will be my alpha glass for my ultra serious birding sessions at wetlands and nature preserves away from home. With their built-in field flatteners, astronomical views are wonderfully sharp from edge to edge across the entire field of view!! Cruising the Milky Way star fields is pure joy with the Monarch HG 8x30 binoculars!!Colors pop and the sharpness of images are second to none!!

Superb!!

Superb optically and mechanically. The field is flat from edge to edge with super color correction. I had no problems with glare or blackouts and these are very comfortable to use. Far superior to the M7 model!!

[Rewarded Review] Decent quality for this price

I've used the Monarch HG 10X42 for 3 years now but was looking for an 8X30 or 10X30 to carry something smaller in my car. I tested several pairs and this was probably the best after the Zeiss SFL. Clear image, decently wide view. My only issue was the focus knob was tighter on these than my older HG 10X42 but maybe it would loosen up over time.

These were bought for their lighter weight. They'll be compared to my Nikon Monarch 7 8X42 and Swarovski 8.5X42.Contrast into bright light: about comparable to the Monarch 7 and not as good as the Swarovski (which cost 2.5X as much).Center-to-edge sharpness: Better than the Monarch 7, almost as good as the Swarovski and only worse near enough to the edge as to make no effective difference.Rectilinear distortion: A bit less than the Monarch 7, a bit more than the Swarovski (which is essentially perfect).Angle of view: 8.3 degrees, better than both of the others (7's 8.0, Swar. 7.6 (at slightly higher magnification).Comfort of use, weight, etc. The HG are light enough that (for me) only one hand is necessary for handholding without noticeable shake. In bright light they are not at any real disadvantage, though of course in dimmer light the smaller aperture does limit the viewability. If use on a tripod is planned, the HG will accept an L-bracket, something the Swarovski will not.Comment: The performance is better than the less-expensive Monarch 7's, but not by enough to make much real-use difference. You may be happy with either. The Swarovski's are better, but the differences are subtle except for the contrast into bright light.
