Crisp, Bright Image with Large Eye Relief

The Prostaff P7 series provides some nice features: bright, crisp images; fancy prism coatings, water- and oil-resistant coatings on the exterior lenses; rubber armor and locking right eye adjustment. I chose the 8x42 over the 10x42 mainly because the eye relief is larger (5.25 mm vs. 4.2 mm), and this made it much easier to obtain a clear, stable image from the binoculars. Both of these P7 models exhibit some purple/green fringing, which is only really noticeable along very sharp, high contrast visual edges under relatively bright lighting. The case and lens covers are usable but nothing fancy. For context, I am an amateur photographer with experience using a wide variety of lenses. My main interest in these binoculars is general wildlife observation.

To be clear – I am definitely a newbie when it comes to binoculars. I know how to use them, but I don't have a lot of experience with different brands. With that in mind, these binoculars feel awesome and are super easy to use! I was looking for something we could use around our yard, occasionally take on short hikes, and for the upcoming total eclipse (don't worry, I also bought solar filters). As a newbie, I was able to immediately tune these in right out of the box. They feel great in your hands, and the weight feels just right for prolonged looking. To my eyes, the optics are also super crisp. Overall, they feel high quality, and I'm excited to use them in April!

Fantastic for concerts

These are fantastic! I bought them primarily for concerts since I can’t afford floor seats right in front. I was in the 2nd to last row at Kia Forum to the side of the stage and these let me see everyone’s face crystal clear. Easy to use. 3 of us were sharing them -2 wearing glasses, me wearing contacts- and super fast to adjust to everyone’s vision and comfort. I’ll be using for outdoor adventures as well, but so glad I don’t have to pay a lot of money for a concert and rely on jumbo screens to see the details chosen by the camera operator.I did order a cheaper pair of lightweight, different brand with good reviews online, but they were not comfortable and not as clear when I went in store to pick them up. Great features - great price
16 July 2023

I went to B and H with a list of mid-rage binoculars to investigate for use birdwatching. The salesman Emmanuel was very patient and knowledgeable. He recommended the Nikon Prostaff P7, which wasn't even on my list. He described it as a great value for the money and I totally concur! It has a 378 foot field of vision, which is more than adequate for me and have features found in higher end binoculars including being waterproof and fog proof. In low light, they brighten the area better than some of the more expensive binoculars I tried. They have performed very well in the field. Highly recommend these nocs!!

Great first pair of binoculars
22 March 2024

I bought these as a first pair of binoculars after reading great reviews about them online. They are well made and looking through them is great, I have been using them to identify garden birds and ducks on the local reservoir. John Lewis had the best price online by far and delivery was prompt.I would recommend these binoculars and would recommend buying from John Lewis.

Great value
29 May 2024

Bought these for my girlfriend so she could go birding with me. She loves them. Very bright and a good build quality. Great value for the price. Only gripe is the lens caps are not the type of quality I expect from Nikon but at this price it's a small sacrifice.

How to use w/ Nikon Tripod / Monopod Adapter TRA-3
28 June 2023

I tried to unscrew / remove the cap over what issupposed to be the threaded socket toscrew in the compatible Nikon Tripod / Monopod Adapter TRA-3 intoon the front of the Nikon Prostaff P7 8 x 32binoculars.There appears to be no way to unscrew / remove that capunless there is some trick that I am not aware of.If anyone has successfullyremoved that cap can you let me know the technique?

Light and Well Made
13 July 2023

I bought this binocular for stargazing. The construction is good. I like the eye relief, the click up eyeshields, and the ability to lock the diopter adjustment ring on the right eyepiece, once it is set. The case is a bit flimsy, but satisfactory. It can be closed with the eyeshields in extended position. The binocular is easy to hold and light, making them pleasant to use. I'm happy with the optics and coatings. Jupiter is very bright at the moment, but it resolves to a bright defined disk without the starburst effect. I'm looking forward to trying this binocular out at a dark sky site.

Nikon Prostaff P7 8 x 42 Binoculars
2 July 2023

These Nikon Binocs were purchased for bird watching. They have excellent clarity and superior eye relief. The left ocular has enough adjustability to accomodate large differences focal distance between the left and right eye. Thought the 8 x 42 magnification gathers slightly less light than 8 x 30 it is not very noticeable in use in broad daylight or during early or late light. The field of view is smaller than 8 x 30 so scanning is not as efficient; however, the greater magnification makes identification of small details of feather patterns easier to discern. These are fairly light weight, easily packable and I am very happy with their performance. I was lucky enough to purchase them on sale at REI and consider them and excellent value for the price paid.

Nikon has done a killer job developing the Prostaff P series
27 December 2022

I have had Nikon Prostaff S series binos before and the Prostaff P series is an improvement. They are lighter, cheaper and have equal/improved optical quality. Most of accessories which came with the binos are high quality and very useful, but the window mount is incompatible with the binos bc there is no mount screw on the binos. If a window mount is purchased, it is best used with a spotting scope or else some kind of mount/bino adaptor is required.Overall: great products with stellar customer service
