I love this Lens for a standard, everyday shoot. It has great focus in manual and in auto. It is light weight and doesn't weigh the front down heavily. It has great noise reduction, the shutter speed is enough for high speed sports, and it is made with wonderful glass. It can easily switch between auto and manual. This is a great lens if you're looking for a just an everyday, any occasion lens.

My first plastic mount lens purchased as refurb and is like new. It is a sharp lens, but one should expect that from the modest max aperture. If you have not experienced the focus consistency and speed of an AF-P lens, this would be a very economical choice to do so. Whether using your camera's phase detect or contrast detect (Live View), focusing is instantaneous. As I said, the lens is sharp, especially the middle two-thirds of the frame. Corners are soft from 18-35mm, getting better as you zoom in, and the edges behave likewise, but not as badly as the corners. I noticed this during my testing on flat objects, but it just is not noticeable in the way I take pictures. Image quality is WAY better than my 16-35 f/4 VR in EVERY way.The VR works well, but I don't ... MoreMy first plastic mount lens purchased as refurb and is like new. I generally don't buy 'normal' range zoom lenses as I prefer to use primes in that range. This lens is an exception to my normal practice as it is small and light and incredibly cheap for what you get. I use it with my D500 and find it great. Pros: - cheap and affordable, especially if bought 'grey market' where it has been separated from a kit - focuses super fast and dead silent compared to some other AF-S lenses - small and light - sharp - VR Cons: - slow variable aperture (I usually use this with external flash or outdoors so set it to f/5.6 or above) - no VR switch (have to use the menus to turn off) - might not be 100% compatible with older Nikon cameras (check this first before buying) - at times it seems to want to underexpose on my D500 by around a stop (be ... MoreI generally don't buy 'normal' range zoom lenses as I prefer to use primes in that range. This is sometimes a hindrance as it is another step in the process. For the price, it works very well and especially for the price. I'm not a huge zoom user so didn't want to spend big on one but this is perfect for general 'walk around' use (for me).

This lens came with the purchase of a refurbished D7500 that I purchased. I couldn't be happier with its condition. There is no evidence of wear and after putting it through its paces around our house the resulting pics were sharp and devoid of dust or aberrations that would come from a dirty lens. This is not a top of the line lens with a very wide aperture at f/3.5 - 5.6, but it does the job for me as a non-professional that uses this lens for things like birthday parties and pics of the kids and dog. I bought the camera to complement my birding hobby so I got a longer telephoto lens. I also wanted a lens for general use that wasn't huge. This one came with the camera and fit the bill.
This is the sharpest lens that I have found for my DX camera (D7500). Extremely fast focusing and very sharp. The only downside is that the AF/MF and VR control is handled by the camera and not with barrel switches. Not really a problem as I always leave VR on. Very compact and light which is a real plus when you lug the camera around all day. Great price for what you get.
What a delightful little zoom lens for my D7200! Light weight, plus having VR makes it a great walk-around lens for outdoor (or indoor with very good ambient light) shooting. The VR is giving me blur-free images even with shutter speeds as slow as 1/20 if I don't mind an ISO up to 3200 (my preferred limit, not the camera's). It's a great trade-off if the image doesn't have to be cropped much. The AF-P motor's auto focus is BAM! Touch the focus button and it's THERE! No hunting, plus it's quiet also, compared to an AF-S lens.Another thing I like (after getting used to it; didn't take long) is the retractable lens barrel. Push the button on the side of the lens, rotate the barrel and it's shortened considerably for storage and safety. This will save money on a case size and save space in my bag. Another nice touch.... The D7200 warns me on-screen if the lens is attached, power is on, BUT is in the storage position. It won't focus or fire. Note: when the lens is retracted and the camera is connected to a PC via the USB cable the data connection is not affected. Images transfer normally.Bokeh is pretty good. The main subject really pops out from the background.Barrel distortion is barely noticeable at 18mm (with camera's Auto Distortion Control ON) and disappears with a little zoom.Vignetting is a little noticeable at 18mm when the aperture is wide open. There is a drop-off in light at the edges, but this is common for any wide angle lens and changing the camera's Vignette Control to High makes a small improvement. Stopping down to f/5 or smaller gradually eliminates it.Final thoughts: This is not a fast lens, meaning f/3.5 to f/5.6 (depending on focal length) won't get that great shot in really low light. But it will get an excellent, sharp one in good light, especially outdoors. And its light weight, compact size and price are terrific. And PLEASE, PLEASE before buying this little marvel make sure it's compatible with your camera body. I've seen too many negative reviews that it didn't function correctly after purchase. The Nikkor AF-P lens system is compatible only for bodies made in the past few years. Take the time to research if it works with your camera body BEFORE you buy. CALL an expert (such as B&H) or CALL the Nikon USA support. Don't rely on a Q&A on the internet. AND IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that your camera's firmware is the current version. And that's all for today's sermon.I guess you can tell by now I really like this lens. I feel that its price makes it an exceptional value. My only beef is that the lens hood is a $25 option. Still, FIVE STARS.
The Mint Boxed Nikon DX Zoom Lens 18-55 AF-S G VR is the original stock lens that comes with the Nikon D3100. Yes others will fit but if you buy the body & lens together this is the lens you get which is an 18 - 55mm zoom lens which will autofocus in Manual or Automatic which means the camera focuses for you. It also has VR ( Vibration Reduction) or camera shake to us older generation. So if you have a bit of the shakes these days or you can't hold that full frame body as still as you used to then this is for you. I am now sold on plastic lenses. This lens will fit and work with other Nikon bodies but you need to speak to a dealer or repairer for information. I know it fits mine because I asked first. I'm sure you will find them more helpful than you may think. If you have a Nikon D3100 and have lost your original lens then this one is the direct replacement for it. Recommended. Slayed_100
Great for what it is for. Family photos, amateurs, and hobbyist. Best lens to learn from because it’s cheap, is a zoom, and has stabilization or VR. Can teach you how to use basically any wide angle and portrait lens once you’ve learned the strengths and purposes of each respective lens length. After this probably best to upgrade to a faster lens. I recommend zooms with fast apertures as the mechanics are similar and you can jump into professional work with a 2.8 or larger aperture, (1.8-1.2). But larger than 2.8 you probably run into just primes unles it’s a specialty lens. Either way have fun with it and don’t worry about experimenting with it because it cost like 40$ to replace and art is all about trying and trying again.
This appears to be a fine lens. However, there was no notification on Adorama's website that it does not work with the Nikon D-7xxx series of camera bodies, possibly other camera series. After doing some research on the net including NikonUSA.com, this lens is incompatible with this series of camera bodies. When I received the lens, and put it on the camera, it would zoom fine but not focus on either manual or automatic mode. It also appears that Nikon has no plans to upgrade the software in this series of camera bodies to be able to use the AF-P series of lenses. lens arrived and did not function. Took it to a local shop for diagnosis. Broken lens motor. B&H rep was kind and considerate on the phone, immediately set up a return/refund. Yes, the broken lens is an inconvenience but, as strange as it may seem, I'm very satisfied with B&H. The purchase was simple, the product was delivered quickly, and the return has been painless so far.
