Mine is a Nikon-USA refurb'd. I use this lens primarily on my D5200, but the lens also works great with my older D40x. I choose a zoom lens because I can zoom in or out faster than I can step back or forward. and many time I can't step back because of room. For me, I like to use the lens hood when ever possible, especially outdoors. The problem is that there is nothing holding it in place, so it could easily accidentally fall off and not missed. I wish there was a click or detent mechanism to hold the lens hood in place. Currently i am using a piece of Scotch tape to prevent it from accidentally rotating and falling off. This lens is a bit too long to use with the built-in flash at the 10mm setting. you get a shadow of the lens in the picture, so if you want to take flash pictures and use this lens, you need to get an external flash such as Nikon SB400, of which I have. Also if you plan to us flash at 10-18mm, you will need a diffuser, because there is definitely light fall-off at the edges, ie you get darkened edges which is quite apparent. Be aware that this lens does not have Nikon's VR vibration reduction feature, so you will need to hold the camera steady for a bit longer to insure that you don't get any blurred photos.

In downtown Sydney, I was able to capture entire skyscrapers from across narrow streets without the extreme distortion of a fisheye. And, you should see the sweeping landscapes and seascapes. This is not to mention the extreme depth of field and how it allowed me to place subjects close to the lens while having the background in sharp focus. This ability does come at a cost. If the person is far off center the distortion is noticeable but, there are work arounds.Because of the extreme wide angle, it is necessary to do perspective correction in post production for many photos but, in many cases, the distortion adds to the feel of the photographs. Using Photoshop's perspective correction tool, you can correct most of the photos to the point that only a critical eye will perceive the distortion. This comes at a price however. Some of the width of the frame must be cropped out but, it still gives better results then using a 28mm for example and not being able to capture everything.I bought this lens knowing I will be upgrading from my D90 to a D800 before our Hawaii cruise next spring. The advantages of the 110 degree angle at 10mm outweighs the fact that it is a DX lens. In summary, now that I have it, I will not part with it.

This review is from the perspective of something relatively new to DSLR photography (2 years into it). This functions really well as a wide angle lens, great for those lanscape shots where you want that dramatic view. Also, you can really create a sense of an object in the foreground being really close to you, in a way other focal lengths can't. Keep it away from portrait work, as the effect can be really weird (unless you're going for that). Image quality is quite good, I'm aware of lenses that can do better but these are much, more expensive. Even then, you'll aways have a trade off: different lens for different jobs. Taking price and image quality into account, this is a good lens for a hobbyist but professional photographers may want something else.
