After reading a tons of reviews I was a little doubtful about this lens. Some said, sharp and fast, othere said not so sharp and nothing special. But, after I tried this lens on my d610 and d810 camera, all I can said, it is amazing (at least my copy). Have several nikon lenses; 24,35,58,85.. and neither is better than the other - they are all extremely sharp, very fast, with excellent rendition. 35G from all of them for me personally has most beautiful colors. It is very compact and well balanced on camera. Weight is also optimal - not so heavy, not so light. If you prefer this focal lenght, this is absolutelly lens to go.
Excellent Nikon FX lens. I was surprised when I got that lens second hand, the color rendition is in par with the best Nikon lenses. Some user review said the lens can be slow to focus sometimes, no problem on my D850. Distortion...? Not much I can see. Basically a top notch lens. We rented a prime lens for a trip to Salem, MA. The experience was great from start to finish. My wife loved the lens so much that she decided to extend the rental by one day to use for a maternity shoot. And sharpness is important to me too since I often make large exhibition prints. This lens is very sharp at the focal point for things like reportage and environmental portraits. The sharpness might fall off a bit in the corners wide open, but they're almost always going to be outside of the depth of field anyway. Stopping down to f/4 or f/5.6 produces very sharp corners with great contrast throughout the frame.So if you're reasonable and don't expect tack sharp corners at f/1.4 on a brick wall, this lens is actually quite sharp in practice. But the real strength of this lens is the look and rendering. The 35/1.4G produces beautiful results under a variety of conditions. The color is especially nice and the way it renders warm tones is really special.If you like the 35mm focal length, this lens definitely deserves a look. It's reliable, fast, durable and feels really nice. The lens has a bit more CA than I would like, but it's usually easily fixable and other lenses in this focal length aren't any better. The only real downsides are the cost and weight.

Balance and feel on the camera is perfect and it's spent an inordinate amount of time mounted to my D800e as it truly is an ideal focal length for everyday shooting in all sorts of situations/environments. Price is prohibitive but if you what/need a fast 35mm and can justify the price, neither you nor your clients will be disappointed. There are certainly less expensive options available in this focal length but in all my many years of shooting with Nikon products I've never had to return a Nikkor lens nor has one ever let me down. Thus I stay loyal to Nikkor lens even at the high prices they command. I believe camera bodies to be visitors, while glass is family and purchase accordingly; this lens is as good a place to put your money as any If you love Nikkors's 85mm F1.4 G (I do) then look at this lens as its 35mm little brother, it's easily as good and certainly worthy of the investment. So stop reading and procrastinating and make the jump, I have and am not the least bit sorry I did!!! As always I highly recommend buying from B&H, my favorite retailers of many, many years.
