I used the 70-200 f/2.8 to photograph a weekend water polo tournament. The pictures were sharp and clear. It was full sun all weekend, so even at 1/2000, I never shot wide open. I think if I had been under more challenging light conditions, I would have appreciated the large aperture even more. I was impressed with quality of the lens and fully internal zoom. For a large lens it was fairly easy to use handheld. The foot is comfortable in my left hand, and I could both hold the lens and control the zoom with the same hand. I also used a monopod while shooting from the stands and that worked great also.

It is a sturdy built Nikon lens with a full range wide-aperture and smooth operating adjusting rings. With this lens the zoon adjustment ring is closer to the camera. For me, I like this orientation better because I prefer to control the frame and let the camera take care of the focus. The later model lens switched the orientation placing the focus adjusting ring closer. If you prefer to control focus then you will want to buy the later model lens. I like not having to use a flash for most indoor and outdoor shoots due to the wide aperture and large lens that fill the imager with light. It is a big lens which is OK for me when the quality of image is the most important thing.

So far this lens holds up to all the reviews I have read about it. The VR is very good and works very well in low light. AF works very well with my Nikon D850. I've only used it handheld so far. It's a bit heavier than I'm used to holding, but surprisingly the VR makes it possible to get good shots handheld. The zoom range makes it very versatile. And very sharp handheld at higher shutter speeds. As an intermediate level hobbyist photographer, I can see this lens challenging me to improve my skills. It's now my favorite lens.

The lens is what is call mint plus. It's outstanding for low light close ups, even for items 6 feet to 100 feet away. It does weigh more than double that of my equivalent sizesmd 24-70 f 2.8 g, if, ed, vr lens. It does have a strong lens foot/mount, for use on a tripod. It's perfect for low ligh!,t indoor events.
I bought this lens for my Nikon D7500 camera. This is an outstanding lens! The 200–500 focal range is perfect for many shooting situations. The 6.3 aperture works very well in wildlife, sports, and concert settings. The high-quality glass gives your camera high resolution on all your pictures. And the VR gives you an extra 4 stops which can give you excellent handheld photos without having to use a monopod or tripod. And did I mentioned that it’s built like a tank? This lens has taken my photography to the next level! It is not a light lens, however; but it is very much worth the weight.
One of the best products from Nikon. Incredibly sharp images. This was a dream lenses for me. I was in the market for a long time for a bargain price. Once I bought this lense, there is no turning back. I purchased this lense for low light photography. Mainly to capture my daughter’s figure skating pictures. It’s indoor and usually the light is not enough for regular lenses. We need fast lense. Last month in one of the figure skating competitions, I have captured some great pictures of my daughter and her friends programs. They came out pretty sharp and I printed them on my newly purchased Epson ET-8550 printer and OMG, the combination of this lense and the printer is amazing. I love this lense.
I've been saving for a while to purchase this lens. It has always been on my want list. I have owned multiple Nikon DSLRs and have always wanted to pair one with the 70-200 2.8. This version has been great to use with my D750. Some say they dont like the zoom ring on the far end, but I dont mind it. Its beefy, but thats what you get with a zoom and f2.8. Tracks well and the VR is a must for sports inside gymnasiums. I got it on sale ($450 off) and I think its a great value under $2000. At the regular price of $2349, its an OK value. Still, if you're serious, you should have a 2.8 zoom. I also looked at the 70-200 2.8 offerings from the major 3rd party supporters (S & T) and still decided to spend the money for the gold ring. Haven't regretted it.

Why, I got burned a few times with third party lenses not being as capable a lens designed for the parent product. There is one third party lens that I still own, and use, Tokina. I'd buy it again, probably will before it gets away for good. I love my DSLR's and I won't be changing them any time soon. When or if I change, it will be to get the Z9, of which I will have my Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8E mounted to it's front end!!

The lens is beautiful. The edge-to-edge focus is beautiful. The focus distance is about a full foot closer, which I absolutely love. I find the motor-memory issue to be minimal - it did slow me down slightly the first couple of uses reaching for the wrong ring, but I don't anticipate it being an issue for long. As for the 'reach' issue, while it is somewhat awkward, I find it helpful to use the tripod foot as a sort of brace to rest the weight of the lens in the palm of your hand and use your fingertips to spin the zoom ring. Leaving the foot loosened or unlocked lets you easily spin from horizontal to vertical without any delay. One commenter solved his reach issue by switching out the nikon foot with the Really Right Stuff the LCF-11 Replacement Foot, which is longer. While I haven't done it yet (pricey), I plan to. A longer foot would pretty much eliminate the reach problem, in my opinion (are u listening, Nikon?).All in all, no regrets. Change happens. It's still a beautiful lens.

Last weekend, I shot three hundred photos while covering a football game. Not a single photo was out of focus. The lens is definitely a game-changer. The attached tripod bracket placed in the palm of my hand is excellent for supporting the lens. I read one of the reviews questioning the zoom control being placed toward the front of the lens. I have no problem with it at all, being able to use the zoom control very easily without having to distort my hand to get to it.
