May not have all the bells and whistles of a modern dSLR but still a solid camera at a bargain price. If you are a serious photographer, this camera is more than enough for great pictures. Stop wasting your money on features you will never use. If you are a good photographer, none of the modern dSLR will make you a better one. The Nikon D60 is the right size at the right price.

This Nikon D60 is the ideal starter digital SLR camera as a birthday present for an 8 year old who has a good grasp of photography and how to look after a camera. Every basic item was included in the kit, and it was an exciting gift to receive. It has also opened the potential for a raft of useful birthday presents in the future.

I bought this a month ago and it performs exactly how it should. You'd think it was brand new. Condition is brand new, and performance wise, it's exactly what I was looking for. More than happy with it 😃

Getting into SLR ( Single Lens Reflective ) technology like I did twenty five years ago with my Minolta XD-11 [ film based, btw ], I made the mistake of buying the expense camera body first and then building my lens up. It was frustrating. Having learned that lesson, I found that this camera makes a good start into the DSLR ( Digital Single Lens Reflective ) camera arena. It is packed with features that let you take phenomenal pictures. Now, as I said, while it is a good camera, it does have its flaws which make it only a good camera, not a great camera. It only has three focusing areas which will confuse your camera about 1% of the time when you are out in the field. The sensor could be better, 10.2 megapixels is nice, but the sensor is only average in the amount ... MoreGetting into SLR ( Single Lens Reflective ) technology like I did twenty five years ago with my Minolta XD-11 [ film based, btw ], I made the mistake of buying the expense camera body first and then building my lens up. It is packed with features that let you take phenomenal pictures. Now, as I said, while it is a good camera, it does have its flaws which make it only a good camera, not a great camera. It only has three focusing areas which will confuse your camera about 1% of the time when you are out in the field. The sensor could be better, 10.2 megapixels is nice, but the sensor is only average in the amount of light it collects which means in low light situations, it delivers performance akin to a 6 megapixel camera. The 10.2 megapixels are great though in well lit situations and deliver the quality of photo that will achieve most of your needs out of a good DSLR. Another thing is that the ISO only goes up to 1600 with noise ( like grain in a film camera ) while great DSLR camera's today can shoot up to 6400 ISO with little noise at all. Still, I got it principally so that I could start buying the expensive Nikon set of advanced VR lens that deliver fantastic optical results for their size ( And there are great choices too, 18-55mm, 18-105mm, 55-200mm, 55-300mm, 18-200mm, 400mm, 55mm, 35mm [ please note: DX Nikon Lenses act at 1.5 times the mm number for comparison to a standard 35mm lens. i.e. a 100mm lens for a DX camera acts as a 150mm lens on an old 35mm camera ). As soon as I have gotten to the point that I have all the lens I need, then I will want to get the kind of Speedlight Flash I need ( SB-800), the external flash battery pack I need, and the backdrop flash kits I want to use for family and friend portraits. Then, and only then, will I then purchase the great camera body I really want, say the D90, D5000, or a D700 to be my main camera. Yet, because I will have by then a collection of lens to support my photographic interests, the D60's small and compact footprint in a camera bag will mean that I can keep the D60 and use it with another lens while I use the main camera to shoot say sports, weddings, graduations, etc. And, since it uses a cheap wireless remote, I will even be able to set it up on a tripod and just take pictures of an event from a different angle while I shoot the event with my main camera. In conclusion, the D60 is that good starter DSLR that lets you build a good base of lenses and not feel cheated while you wait for the kind of camera you really want in your bag like the D90, D5000, or the D700. ( In all likelihood, I will buy the D90 since it uses the same battery as the D60 and the same wireless remote )
Replaced my Dads broken original D60. Works great simple and easy to use. Great camera for new to photography and old handset it. Rivals new cameras at a faction of the price used.
I can't believe this is actually refurbished......it seems brand new. There was not even a single smudge or finger print on the screen. However, after a few days, and in hot temperatures, i had a single hot pixel show up in the bottom left corner, when shooting jpegs. Considering how prevalent hot pixels are in digital cameras anyway, and the fact that they don't appear when shooting in camera RAW, i don't think this is a significant problem.Just like the camera condition, the actual attributes of the camera make this an excellent buy. There are easily customizable shooting settings, good white balance customization, relatively low noise at 800 ISO and below, and overall great image quality. The battery life is also top notch. Speaking of noise though, i don't mind the look of the noise on this camera at 800 ISO above because it looks identical to film grain, and not that silly chroma noise found on low end cameras and camcorders.I could go on and on about the things i like in this camera, so i'll skip to the drawbacks and let you look up a full review to get an idea of the specific highlights of the model. For one, using both the exposure lock and focus lock simultaneously is a bit cumbersome and can be difficult if shooting quickly. Using one or the other is easy and intuitive however.I don't really like the fact that no image stabilization is built into the camera, but at least the VR lenses do their job well. Now, in terms of shutter lag, it's fast, but by no means the fastest i've worked with. However, If you are moving up from a point and shoot camera you will be pleasantly surprised.Despite these small issues, i highly recommend it, and rate it a 5 out of 5.
The D60 follows the the 40 and 40x , then after came the D3000. Very capable allround tools in capable hands, otherwise four very similar cameras and Nikon know this. They have taken care not to change the formula too much. If looking to upgrade beyond D60 the next significant step is a D300 not intermediate D90 models, but the D60 goes so far you wonder why go further... I was so impressed with wife's D40 I wondered why I carry bigger cameras around. Standard VR kit lens is hard to beat at the price but there is much to gain with better glass. My favourite is Tamron 17-50 f2.8 with motor as a general use lens which is an ideal match. For stills a very competent tool with no technical vices allows the photographer to concentrate properly on composition etc. Output ... MoreThe D60 follows the the 40 and 40x , then after came the D3000. My favourite is Tamron 17-50 f2.8 with motor as a general use lens which is an ideal match. For stills a very competent tool with no technical vices allows the photographer to concentrate properly on composition etc. Output is very similar to D200 but the body won't stand the physical abuse a 200 or 300 can tolerate. D60 is small and light enough to use just on a wrist strap and to keep nearby much of the time to help you to have a camera to hand when opportunity arises whilst ensuring good technical performance. Battery life is moderate so carry a spare. Lugging a D300 or D2Xs is a very different proposition and mine stay in their bags a lot now! Drawbacks: frame rate a bit slow for sports, versus D300 etc. Build is light weight requiring lighter handling. Flash is not strong a main source. SS400 flash is designed to match and it does beautifully. I would like to see a low noise lower low ISO setting monochrome but we wait for the D4......, different tool for different jobs.
If you are looking for a good camera with a good starter kit set of lenses, light, portable and easy to use, this is a good option. No, it is not a prosumer set but it takes great photos with the standard set of lenses found in the kits; 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses. I have shot with this using a Targus grip and it is still light and quite portable. I typically use mine with an "all day lens" being a Tamrom 18-270 and it's great for what it is. I also have enlarged photos up to 13x19 with little to no issues with quality. If I were on assignment or doing professional work, this is not the first choice, however. That said, it isn't meant to be. First time user? Get it, save money on your first camera body and invest in lenses from the start that will move to your next ... MoreIf you are looking for a good camera with a good starter kit set of lenses, light, portable and easy to use, this is a good option. Remember, this is a cropped sensor camera that requires the motors for autofocus to be in the lenses themselves. It does not have an in body motor function. But that is what makes it so light and inexpensive.
I was an old 35mm guy who almost got out of photography when digital took over, but I got into point and shoot... with a lot of disappointment. When I finally decided to get a DSLR, I was appalled at the prices so I started looking for used. This camera was highly recommended by everyone I found and I am NOT disappointed. While I am having to re-learn a few things and learn anew a few things that weren't part of 35mm, it is a huge jump from point and shoot (even though mine was a pretty good one.) I am impressed with the speed at which you can shoot and the options for shooting. Picture quality is amazing (you can count feathers on a bird's head) and it's soooo easy to print, post or publish great pictures. NOTE: YOU ARE GOING TO WANT TO GET GOOD LENSES!!! Mine came with the kit 18-55mm lens (adequate for shooting indoors, people and close shots), but I found a 55-200mm also on ebay for a very reasonable price. It is a must if you want to shoot from a distance or get great wildlife closeups - get as close as possible to shoot and then blow em up on computer. It is lightweight, has a very nice feel in your hands (not too small or bulky, so you can steady it nicely) and the lens and controls are a piece of cake. Quick review of your pics works nice and you can really get a good idea of whether it's a keeper or not immediately. Get a big SD card and take 100's of shots. I HIGHLY recommend this camera, especially if you're relatively new to SLR (or coming back).
WOW! Whar a camera, better than described. THANKS
