Nikon D610 DSLR AF-S 24-85mm VR Lens Kit

Feel the power of a 24.3 MP Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor in a compact, HD-SLR body. Nikon's superior 39-point AF system and scene recognition system means details will be clear and crisp - for static or moving subjects. Nikon FX-format quality has never been more attainable. One of the keys to capturing razor-sharp images is a fast, precise autofocus system, and the D610 has one of the best. 39 tightly packed focus points with wide-area AF coverage offer endless compositional possibilities. Nine cross-type sensors in the center offer superior accuracy even when light and contrast are scarce. Seven center focus points work all the way down to f/8 for extended AF functionality with teleconverters and long-reach lenses. Switch between 9, 21 or 39 point AF, allowing for compositional freedom. D610's scene recognition system's subject identification and tracking information means enhanced performance by 3D tracking and auto area AF. When shooting photos or HD video in live view, Nikon's responsive contrast-detect AF activates for accurate fulltime autofocusing. Full HD 1080p video is supported up to 30 fps in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format and manual control over the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture is possible for optimized control over the look and feel of movies. Uncompressed recording is possible with an optional external recorder connected via the HDMI port and, additionally, both headphone and microphone ports are available for refined control over recorded sound.

I bought this camera body a few years back as a companion to the non-FX Nikon D7100. Same camera, just DX capabilities on the D7100. For my usage in landscape, portraits, and automobile photography, the ability to use full frame or the 1.5x DX mode is a nice tool essentially making a 400mm zoom lens a 600mm lens. The manual or fully automatic exposure modes are nice to explore your creativity. The final product pictures are where Nikon cameras shine and this camera is no exception with a 24mp sensor. This body is also compatible with older used Nikon prime lenses which can enhance the low light capabilities and sharpness of your photos.

This is my first FX camera after many many years of DX. This is a one way trip - I will not be going back. I cannot begin to describe how different the full frame and cropped world's are - honestly chalk and cheese. I'm not slagging off my dx gear or cropped sensor cameras, absolutely not - but seriously folks if you can afford a full frame then buy one and don't look back. The D610 was the best route for me financially and I was not disappointed. This camera is amazing and I totally love it. Ignore all the reports of the those saying they wouldn't touch one over a D750 as the focussing etc is just no good. Those who slate the D610 in favour of the D750 I guarantee you will say how awful the D750 is when it gets replaced. I still have my D90 from new and would never sell it as it is still to this day a marvelous camera so I'm not someone who chases the latest (I couldn't really afford to if I did!) and believe me the D610 blows it away but it's still a great camera. Bottom line the D610 is the most amazing camera I've ever used and the images are stunning. It's ability in low light, high ISO and super fast focussing is a joy to behold. The images straight out of this camera are like butter. Top tip - get yourself a DX Nikon 35mm f1.8g and be prepared to be totally blown away, despite the vignetting. I love that combination so so much. Hope this review helps. Good luck. Paul

The only camera above it I might consider, if I had to replace it today, would be a D810 or D850. Between a D750 and the D610, I would take the D610 all day long, every day. Don't get me wrong, the D750 is awesome, but the D610 feels great in the hand and performs incredibly. I also don't need the tilting screen of the D750. I think the D610 may be Nikon's most underrated camera, but Nikon knows it is a winner, since they typically keep it priced higher than the D750. If I could justify it, I would buy this as a second kit. I don't work for and am not affiliated with Nikon or Adorama, but I see so many people constantly looking for the next new camera body release. This is an AWESOME, reliable body. Get it and buy good glass if you want great pictures.

I recently purchased this camera moving up from a D7000. Very happy to migrate to FX but also happy to share my thoughts and honest feedback. Build quality: Does not seem as robust as the D7000, just seems a little lighter and less defined. Not a negative thing by any means but it is a noticeable difference. Ease of use: The jog wheel and controls are very small. All key features and buttons are smaller than on other cameras in this range so can be a little fiddly to operate/get used to. Picture quality: Excellent. There is a distinct increase in overall quality and tone on this camera, the FX sensor delivers superior images and detail. I am also running the memory in Jpeg and NEF at maximum capacity and have experienced a bit of drag when shooting and reviewing files, but this is not a major issue and has not compromised the camera's use in any way. All in all I am very happy with this purchase. I was actually planning to buy a D750 but this model became available at a very good price. I may well invest in another body in the future but would definitely recommend this camera.

Excellent Camera & Excellent Value

I am extremely happy with this Nikon D610 bundle. I have been shooting for years with an older Nikon D7000 body, and I was looking to upgrade to a full frame camera to replace it. I had been looking at used D610 camera bodies, but then I stumbled on this bundle. The value of this bundle can't be beat. Full Frame Loveliness

At the time of writing, the D610 is still a current model in Nikon's regularly changing line-up. It represents the so-called entry level FX camera, with the D750 D800 and D810 above it. Beyond those are the full pro standard D5. The D610 was a quiet update to a somewhat flawed D600 - there was an issue where dirt and grease from the shutter manufacture process, worked its way onto the sensor. After a few thousand shots, the self cleaning sensor solved the problem, but Nikon went one better and released an updated model, with a few tweaks. The D610 does not have this dirty sensor problem. It's an easy camera to hold, although full frame means it's that bit bigger than a DX format camera, the D610 is still very comfortable to hold and feels well balanced in use - even with the extra battery and grip attached. We find the usual basic exposure modes, PSMA, plus Auto. A number of preset Scene functions are built in - portrait, landscape, night shot etc. There are 2 user settings for storing and using your own configurations. The autofocus is quite fast - not as blistering as the D5 perhaps. but still useful enough to have focus tracking as a featurefor shooting moving subjects. Continuous high speed shooting tops out at around 6 fps, so if you're a budding motor sports photographer, this may well not be fast enough for you - though back in film days, 6fps was blistering. It has dual SD slots, with Slot 2 configurable across a range of uses - overflow, backup, RAW or JPEG. Great features, great resolution and great handling, make this camera far more than just an entry level. This is a serious piece of kit that will deliver the goods

Great camera, but have it checked out by a technician before using it
7 April 2020

A great camera all around, easy to use and great image quality, but with one caveat. In the middle of shooting a wedding, my D610 suddenly started corrupting some of the images. The bigger problem was that I didn't know it because all appeared to be fine on the screen. It wasn't until later in the day when I couldn't review many of the images I had shot earlier that I realized there was a problem. So in it went to Nikon, and it's been working great ever since. HOWEVER, the exact same problem happened with its DX sister camera, my D7100. It, too, has been fixed by Nikon at an almost identical price (they simply replaced the sensor units in both of them). So, long story short, if you buy the D610, have a factory-trained Nikon tech give it a thorough check before using it. Mine's been doing great since I had it worked on.

Great picture quality and worth the investment
18 May 2016

I've taken nearly 6000 shots with this camera now and the vast majority of the time I'm really pleased with it. I bought it with an AF-S Nikkor 28-300 3.5-5.6G zoom lens; that makes for quite a heavy combination but the picture quality is more than worth it; my D5500 feels flimsy in comparison and I'll always reach first for the D610 because of the increase in picture quality. The zoom does show some distortion, but the benefit of not having to change lenses more than compensates and I've never felt let down by the results.I use it mainly for sports photography at school fixtures and special events such as concerts and drama productions, with some landscape and railway photography as well. The performance in low light is exceptional; even at 6400 ISO the shots are ... MoreI've taken nearly 6000 shots with this camera now and the vast majority of the time I'm really pleased with it. The ability to set the shutter speed and aperture and let the camera work out the ISO up to a preset maximum is a real boon and means you can get sharp pictures with good depth of field if you're shooting sport on a miserable day in February or musicians in a not particularly well lit hall. In optimum lighting conditions and a relatively low ISO setting it's easy to get very sharp pictures with rich colour and depth. The downsides: I'd love a pull-out screen like the D5500 and D750 have and I find it a pain to have to use live view to shoot video. I also had to spend a fair amount of time with the instruction book to get the camera set up to do best what I wanted it to beyond basic point and shoot. Once I'd programmed in a couple of user modes, it made it easy to find the best settings quickly for a particular situation.Overall, you get a great quality of image (without an unmanageable file size) and that's what's made me glad I stepped up from a DX camera. I'd certainly recommend paying the extra money if you're hesitating between DX and FX.

Nikon used to be the real deal
20 January 2020

I have always been a crop sensor user ever since moving from film to digital. I previously owned Nikon APS-c bodies, but one day upgraded to a D7000 and that is when I realized NIKON was losing its grip on Quality Control, the D7000 had a back focus issue. In short Nikon refused to fixed the camera, even though Nikon knew it was a factory defect. So I sent my camera to a repair shop and they did what Nikon would not do for only $250, then I sold the camera and went with other brands (Pentax, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, and they all delivered greatness). Now after seeing the D-610 on sale bundled with lots of goodies at an irresistible price, I said, it is my time to enter the Full Frame world (BTW FF is overrated). Now after seeing the D-610 on sale bundled with lots of goodies at an irresistible price, I said, it is my time to enter the Full Frame world (BTW FF is overrated). To my disappointment when setting the camera to live view mode for video shooting, that is when the mirror locked up and never unlocked again yielding the camera useless. I could not believe what was happening, fortunately it was within 40 minutes of having the camera delivered to my doorsteps, after talking to ADORAMA they offered a full refund. I have nothing bad to say about picture quality, I think NIKON delivers great color and contrast, but it is pointless if the cameras are failing in built quality. So if NIKON works great for you, good, as for me it did not. Please put your camera through some usage and check it well before the return period ends, or get a third party warranty in case NIKON does not do its job.

A D610 will generally put a fair dent into your budget, especially if you buy a new one. Even a refurbished directly from Nikon will cost you around $1000. If you want to point and shoot, this is far more camera than you should even consider. If you want full-frame, still thinking in terms of 35mm cameras and the level of skill a photographer needs there, then this could be one for you. It isn't the latest technology. It is quite recent. For the latest, consider the fact you'll be spending $2500 and upwards for not a lot more than this one offers. It isn't a light camera. But it does far more than your simple D60 or D40, at considerably more money. A very strong camera, well built, with plenty of bells and whistles for those wishing those things Otherwise appears to be a workhorse of a camera. I didn't buy this for the lens that came with it, and it is a reasonable lens, but if you use such, you will need a tripod for certain at almost any exposure. No Vibration Reduction here. I replaced this one with a 70-300 AF VR lens. Much heavier, but a great lens.
