The Nikon Monarch HG 30mm diameter binoculars are ideal for bird or nature watching enthusiasts, as well as those who enjoy different kinds of outdoor activities and want to travel light. With its magnesium alloy body these binoculars weigh just 450 grams. They provide sharp and clear views all the way to the periphery and maintains a wide field of view with natural colour fidelity. The wide apparent field of view of 60.3 degrees provides spectacular viewing, while the Field Flattener lens system assures a sharp and clear view. The use of extra low dispersion (ED) glass corrects chromatic aberration that can cause colour fringing to achieve a contrast rich and high resolution image. A high-quality multilayer coating is applied to all lenses and prisms. Dielectric high-reflective multilayer prism coating and phase correction coating are applied to the roof prisms, which combine to achieve a bright view with light transmittance of up to 92 per cent or higher, plus natural colour fidelity. Long eye relief design ensures a clear field of view, even for spectacle wearers. Lead and arsenic free glass is used for all lenses and prisms. Turn and slide rubber eyecups with multi click facilitate easy positioning of eyes at the correct eyepoint. Optional tripod adapter (TRA-3 / Adaptor H). Come complete with a neck strap that reduces strain on the users neck, a semi hard type case to protect the binoculars in transit and caps.

Very well made item. There is some truth in the oft aired view, I believe, that £700-£800 is a sweet spot for top quality. Marginal improvements then become disproportionately expensive. These have good colour, sharpness and handling and a flatter field than many, if not completely so. Very satisfied with these.

Very satisfied with these binoculars. Certainly seem as good as the more expensive Swarovski 8x30s. Small enough to use when Im out with my 500mm f4 lens and DSLR.

I can recommend these binoculars. They are not cheap, but their built and image quality place them at the level of twice as expensive models of Leica, Zeiss or Swarovski. I compared them with Swarovski EL 10x42 and Zeiss Victory 10x32, and my eyes could not see a difference in image sharpness. Of course, with a 30mm lens, they may not be the best in low light conditions. However, I used them for birding at dusk and the image was still excellent. With only 450g, you can bring them everywhere. They are an excellent choice as all-purpose binoculars.

Nice optics easy to use intelligent design and waterproof. What more can you ask for
These are not much better than the M7's which are less than half their price. Nikon introduced a lemon. The eye cups are way too short for the eye relief creating black outs
These were bought for their lighter weight. They'll be compared to my Nikon Monarch 7 8X42 and Swarovski 8.5X42.Contrast into bright light: about comparable to the Monarch 7 and not as good as the Swarovski (which cost 2.5X as much).Center-to-edge sharpness: Better than the Monarch 7, almost as good as the Swarovski and only worse near enough to the edge as to make no effective difference.Rectilinear distortion: A bit less than the Monarch 7, a bit more than the Swarovski (which is essentially perfect).Angle of view: 8.3 degrees, better than both of the others (7's 8.0, Swar. 7.6 (at slightly higher magnification).Comfort of use, weight, etc. The HG are light enough that (for me) only one hand is necessary for handholding without noticeable shake. In bright light they are not at any real disadvantage, though of course in dimmer light the smaller aperture does limit the viewability. If use on a tripod is planned, the HG will accept an L-bracket, something the Swarovski will not.Comment: The performance is better than the less-expensive Monarch 7's, but not by enough to make much real-use difference. You may be happy with either. The Swarovski's are better, but the differences are subtle except for the contrast into bright light.
I love this binocular....very small and light. It is a perfect bin for me now to take out casual birding or travel. The Nikon is well made, the image really 'pops' and I find the ergonomics fits my hands extremely well. I compared many small binoculars at this price range (8x30 or 8x32) and found the Nikon to fit me the best optically and with ergonomics. The contrast on these binoculars is wonderful as well as little things such as the diopter adjustment and focus wheel smoothness. I would highly suggest this pair for a sub $1000 range binocular.
