Phenomenal walk-around lens. Lightweight, cheap, and cheap enough you're not overly precious with how you handle the lens. I'm okay with the plastic Z mount, given the price. Extremely compact on my Z6. Vignettes/falls off slightly on the corners in bright sunlight, but honestly that is to be expected with almost any focal length wider than 32/35mm. I love using it for location scouting, and if I need a tighter shot, I pop it into DX mode to achieve a 42mm FOV. If I'm being honest, I feel this lens would excel on a DX body; of course this special edition style fits seamlessly on the Z fc body, but it would also be a phenomenal all purpose walk-around lens on any DX body (perhaps even more so than on an FX body).

After only using S-Line lenses on my Z7 I was not sure how I would feel about this lens. I was delighted from the minute I unboxed it. The lens feels solidly built and mounts snugly, plus the control ring is smooth and well tensioned. The lens focuses quickly and accurately like all Z lens, and best of all the image quality is even better than expected. It is a pleasure shooting with this light and responsive lens. I have no reservations using it for any recreational purpose. With a Z7 there is enough contrast and resolution to produce a nice image at any aperture. I have not been able to produce a sharp sun star though, even when stopped all the way down (non-issue for me). This is another great Z lens, especially for the price!

I am basically a portrait photographer, but I also enjoy the outdoors and adventure wild camping. I've often needed a wide angle lens for many situations but never seemed to have one in my kit.I was so pleased when Nikon released this Z 28mm and was able to round out my kit. It is a beautiful lightweight addition with beautiful results.

I find myself using this lens more often than my larger S lenses because it is so light, compact and versatile as a daytime walkaround lens. It has mostly lived on my Z6ii since I bought it. I love the images so far; seems to produce very nice colors and micro-contrast. It's a great looking lens too, and the focus ring turns buttery smooth. I added a Vello 52mm hood to protect the front element and the lens-cap clips right into it.
This is not the perfect 28mm, but it is sharp in the center WO, and fun to use on the z body. Better than the legacy Minolta MD 28 I was using on my z6. So much smaller and unobtrusive than the other Z mount lenses. Great street or travel lens. Overall, for the modest price, I am really pleased with this lens.
I purchased this lens specifically to work with a gimbal combo I was using (manufacturer recommended) but have come to love this for just everyday use where wide angle is needed and not just with the gimbal. Its images are crisp/sharp, the lens is light and compact, and the fast speed will be a blessing when the weather warms up and I can shoot outdoors at night again. My only hesitation with this lens (so far) is the plastic it's made of feels cheap and that might make one think that its a bad lens.
This is a perfect walk around lens for my Nikon Zf C as the EFL is 42mm. I will also be using it on occasion on my full frame bodies for the 28mm look when I want to go lighter. The image quality seems good and the lens is so light weight. It has a plastic mount but that is of no bearing to me as I got this as an alternative to my heavy, pro lenses.
The native Nikon Z lenses are broadly magnificent, modern lenses in terms of image quality, build, and handling. Though the f/1.8 lenses are not large, a truly compact lens has been something that I've wanted for years. So far, I'm really impressed with the how the 28 performs in-hand and really love how it transforms the camera into a compact, minimal, easy-to-carry solution.
Got it a few days ago for my Nikon Z6 II. Kudos to B&H's bombproof packing job. The tiny lens box was wrapped in tons of bubble wrappings inside a box that is eight times larger in size. Thank you, B&H. You're the reason why I always buy from you.For the lens, I intend to use it as both a walk-around lens for my street photography and webcam for online meetings. First, the look/feel is exactly that of Nikon AI/AI-S lens. The focus ring is as butter, super smooth just as any AI-S manual focus lens. Thank you, Dear Nikon. It's Deja Vu all over again. The 40/2, which I also have, feels totally different now. The 40/2 feels much inferior in the look/feel department compared to the 28/2.8 SE though optically they are on par. Here's a short unboxing and first ... MoreGot it a few days ago for my Nikon Z6 II. The 40/2 feels much inferior in the look/feel department compared to the 28/2.8 SE though optically they are on par. Here's a short unboxing and first impression vid I did the other day:https://youtu.be/SmdgxTLh_ucThe lens is lighter and little more compact than the 40/2. The glass is superb: fast AF speed, excellent OOF blurs, and no evidence of the nasty curvature issue that Nikon AF-S 28mm f/1.8G is notorious for. I feel this little guy can easily beat the AF-S 1.8 version unless you need to shoot at F1.8.There are one shortcomings though-F16 is its minimal aperture so its doesn't completely render the classic sunstar that I want to obtain. But that's just my nit-nicking. Besides, how often do I need to obtain a complete sunstar in my shots?Overall, it's definitely a winner. Make sure get the SE version because the regular version is the one you need to stay away (unless it costs much less). If you're interested in getting a hood for it, I recommend Sensei Collapsible Rubber Lens Hood II (Standard, 52mm), which B&H also carries. Here's a little review I did for the hood:https://youtu.be/24PkBgBtldsAttached three test shots: 1) The Wall Shot; 2) The OOF Bokeh Shot; 3) The Sunstar Shot.
I picked up this lens as an introduction to Z mount lenses and immediately took it on a trip to the beach for a week. I brought along some F mount lenses too but this Z 28mm rarely left my camera. It was well suited for carrying around to capture scenic beach photos. As suggested in other reviews, the Sensei Wide-Angle Rubber Lens Hood (52mm) is a nice accessory for this lens as well.
