I bought this lens to be my lightweight walk-around lens for a Z5. The reviews were positive but it has exceeded my expectations. Very sharp from wide open and no obvious aberrations, unless perhaps you are a fanatical pixel-peeper. A lens this cheap shouldn't really be this good. F2 is a big enough aperture for my needs and having used a lens with the same field of view on a M43 camera I knew that 40mm is a versatile focal length. I'm happy with the lens.
This is an excellent lens that makes the Z series cameras lightweight and portable, much more suitable for street photography than before. The image quality is excellent from an f4 aperture and at f2 the sharpness in the center is very good and the bokeh is very nice. The contrast is very good and the resistance to flare as well. For me the greatest contribution of this objective is the manageability it offers. The set with the Nikon Z6 is about 800 grams approximately which makes this camera, together with the great image quality, a very valuable tool for street photography. The 40mm focal length is very versatile and is perfectly suited for this purpose. Without a doubt it will be one of the objectives that I will use the most.
This is an excellent little "walk-about" lens which works well in low light. Good depth of field control and bokeh. For the price an excellent bit of kit.
Thanks to its small size and light weight it makes the perfect travel / street lens in combination with the Z6/Z7 cameras. Perhaps not quite as sharp as my best prime lenses when wide open at f/2, but still very good especially considering the price and small size. The lens mount is plastic but I don't think this will be an issue with such a light lens.
Don't think that because the lens is cheap, that it isn't great! I bought this lens as something I can stick on the front of my Z6ii and walk about places I am not 100% sure of, as it is pretty unremarkable looking. It draws less attention then the 28-75 or the 85 1.8. For the relatively low price it takes very good photo's that are hard to find fault with. Just because it is cheap doesn't mean it isn't comparable in results to more expensive lenses.
