I have a Vortex Razor HD that's a superb scope but sometimes I need something smaller and lighter to pack in, or I need a 2nd scope for companions. This scope fits those needs really well. It's 1/2 the weight of the Vortex, 1/4 the price, and is easy on the eyes. As with most scopes, the FOV gets pretty narrow pretty fast as you zoom, but at the lower settings, it's nice and wide. Scan at the lower setting and then zoom in for details and you'll be fine. Excellent scope for the $$$.I paired it with the Velbon Ultra-reversible tripod and they both fit easily and lightly in my pack.

I am using this mainly for archery targets out to 70+m and it is probably overkill but very good and will also be used for basic astronomy. Feels solidly built and is very clear at low magnification, a little less at high but usable.

They are really useless.-The focusing nob is oddly placed and is not ergonomically comfortable to use. It is hard to to get used to getting your eye up sooo close tot he lens to look through it. You almost have to touch your eye to the lens! Doesn't work at all like a rifle ... More+ As I would expect from Nikon, this scope has great glass. Love the angled eyepiece - great invention and perfect for birders of different heights. Ease of focusing. Crisp resolution at high magnification. Excellent scope for birding, which is exactly what it was purchased for. So far - have not discovered a single negative.
Its super clear and quick to get onto the intended spot. Love the straight scpe design by Nikon.
I couldn’t be happier with this monocular. The ease of use, smooth and powerful zoom, image clarity, and top notch materials, fit, and finish have elevated my wildlife watching from “meh” (with lower end binoculars) to “Wow!”. My next thing to try is connecting this unit to a Nikon Coolpix camera (N.B. The adapter for that is discontinued, but is not difficult to find used online).
Bought this for spotting targets at indoor shooting range. It offers sharp focus and is plenty bright. The eye relief is perfect for viewing with safety goggles. Previously had purchased a Meade 20-60x60 and it didn't focus at less than 28 feet, has no eye relief, and is dim. You get what you pay for. While this Nikon is pricey, it is very very good.
I purchased this as a spotting scope for long range target shooting out to 600 yards. Super sharp at even the highest magnification. I couldn't have asked for a better scope for the money. I will be taking it out for bird spotting and am sure I will be happy with the results due to the wide field of view and easy eye relief.
I have to update my previous review. This scope sat in the closet for months until hunting season. First trip was fine- scope was great. Second trip, I arrived at my glassing spot, pulled the scope out and found the eyepiece rattling around loose in the case. The eyepiece mounting ring is attached with 3 tiny screws to plastic studs in the scope body- these had all broken. I was carrying the scope in its padded cover inside a heavily padded bag. I didn't drop the scope, mistreat it, or anything like that- I've been carrying scopes for hunting, wildlife field work, and etc for 25+ years w/out issues and this is the first problem I've ever had.I sent the scope back to Nikon and they are repairing it for a very fair fee, but I just can't recommend this scope for ... MoreI have to update my previous review.
