Excellent Lightweight Binoculars!
27 March 2017

The key to these binoculars is their amazing light weight. I have four other pair of binoculars, but they are all pretty heavy, not the greatest to pack for a trip. These are a great balance of power, quality, and light weight. Highly recommended. Others have talked about the loose eyepiece caps. If you're the least bit handy with a needle and thread, just add a short section of line to the caps by sewing the ends to each cap, then run the line through the neck strap. Voila, never lose them again... FYI to B&H: I tried to add two photos using the 'Add an Image' function, but it just sat there with a spinning symbol, wouldn't work. Tried three times, the last time after downsizing my photos to 0.3MB.

Fantastic travel binoculars

Our family took three sets of binoculars to Costa Rica. This was easily the pair most fought over. The lenses are fantastic, the view extremely clear, plus they are light and very easy to focus. They were great for animals in the distance as well as nature close up -- which was not true for the other binoculars we brought. Using the binoculars with children (ages 6-11) we also thought Nikon's (lifetime?) guarantee was worth the price of going with the more expensive brand. Perhaps the best endorsement for these binoculars is that it has made our whole family more interested in nature at home -- not just Costa Rica! One of my children wears glasses, and he said that they were just fine.

GREAT GIFT IDEA, even for yourself.

I just purchased two more Nikon travelite VI binoculars for gifts. I have used these binoculars myself for many years and find them to be very good quality and value. They are compact so they are more likely to go with you than stay behind because of unwanted bulk. One of the features I have always liked is that unlike many brands they will focus on objects quite close, this is nice for seeing fine detail on birds or butterflies just several feet away. I do not believe you can find better optical quality in this price range, the view is sharp and crisp. Make sure you understand how to adjust the right eyepiece as this allows both eyes to have perfect focus. I like that they have a lifetime warranty. I often have wildlife in my yard and even thou I also have Nikon 10X50's at hand I almost always grab the compact Nikon because of the ease of use. They are a great everyday binocular and also bring concerts up close. These travelite VI come with a very nice neck strap and travel / storage case. I have given about a dozen of these as graduation and wedding gifts and they are always appreciated. A product that will be used for a lifetime.

Great for clear close-work!
11 November 2016

Used for birding - specifically hummingbirds; close-in images are clear, bright & detailed; colors are bright and clear where in my other two binocs the colored areas would be dark to black. So I really appreciate the amount of light these Nikons capture. They're also easy to wear: they don't cut or weigh down the back of your neck. I had to practice focusing, but now get a quick fix on the object to study. Adjusting the focus is still a bit labored. I most appreciate the amount of light and the sharp close focus. Worth the money!

In Your Hand, Not Your Closet
27 April 2017

Our car was burglarized this past summer, and these were in the glove box. I have 3 other pairs of binoculars, all of them really good quality, but this is the pair that's always to hand instead of back home in the closet because it's small, lightweight, and easy to carry in a pocket, my wife's handbag, or a car glove box. Buying another to replace the one that's been stolen because they're just too freakin' useful to be without. My other glasses are all really good when I am going to make a point of bringing a pair for a specific use and don't mind the size and/or weight, but they're usually home while these are always nearby. Just the right size and they are Nikon
2 January 2017

My regular 8X36 Sporter 1 Nikon binoculars were too large to carry on a recent hunt so I left them at camp. I really should have taken them along as I almost passed up a deer which I didn't see coming until it was almost too close to react. I decided then and there to search for a smaller, lighter binocular of good quality and easy to carry. I've never had an issue with Nikon so these were the logical choice for me. I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived and I found I could manage them with one hand. The only negative (thus 4 stars) is the lens covers. They are only included for the eye pieces and won't fit the rubber eye cups when folded down. And, they are individual caps which are easy to misplace. I remedied that by using some para-cord knotted thru a ... MoreMy regular 8X36 Sporter 1 Nikon binoculars were too large to carry on a recent hunt so I left them at camp. Lightweight and OK, but the older one was easier to use.
1 March 2022

I have previously owned a Nikon TraveliteV binocular, and it was slightly larger and easier to use. However, the covering on the binoculars just disintegrated so I decided to buy a new one. Nikon offered to repair it for me, but I didn't take them up on it. By the way, the new one was sent out on Feb. 2, and due to arrive on Feb. 8, according to an e-mailI was sent. It didn't arrive until Feb. 15 (from Michigan ---- I had ordered it from California. ????

Perfect for travel
11 November 2016

I used these on a trip to Europe this past summer and was very pleased with their performance. So light and small that I almost forgot I was carrying them around my neck all day long. The optics are as good as can be expected in this price range and small size. The field of view is narrow, but images are well defined and colors show through naturally. I would caution against getting any magnification higher than 8x though, as these are available in 10x and 12x, also. The field will be even narrower and you'll encounter difficulty in holding them still enough to get a good view. In fact, I would prefer that these were available in 7x, which would be even more useful than 8x in most instances.

Refined after many generations
6 June 2020

Got my first pair of Travelite binocs back in 1993. They were good, but a bit fuzzy at the edges. This sixth generations seems have taken care of that to a large degree, and is a fantastic deal for a $100 optic. Fit and finish is very nice, and box/packaging materials are the best I’ve ever received from B&H. The product arrived when promised. Been using B&H for decades while living on both coasts.

I bought these binoculars for my wife after some extensive online research. She was looking for something smaller to take on trips and hikes. We own several other much more powerful binoculars, but they were always impractical for situations that favored low weight and small size. You can get smaller and lighter options, but there is a tradeoff in image quality. These Nikon's seem to check all the boxes, with no serious compromises. My wife was initially dubious of the lower magnification of this model over our other binoculars. However, in practice, she has found them quite satisfactory. They give her the ability to check out things near and far along the trail. They focus close enough that getting a better look at something 8 feet or so away is possible. On the other hand, far objects are magnified to a useful level, as well. Overall she is now quite happy with them. I've also recommended these to a friend who purchased and has been happy with them. There are only a few minor negatives. The covers for the eyecups are a joke. They fit loosely and easily fall off. There are only covers for the eyepieces, not the front elements (however they are recessed). The pouch is a tight fit, and it takes care to get the flap to reach far enough to secure on the Velcro patch.
