The versatile Joy-Con offer multiple surprising new ways for players to have fun. Two Joy-Con can be used independently in each hand, or together as one game controller when attached to the Joy-Con grip. They can also attach to the main console for use in handheld mode, or be shared with friends to enjoy two-player action in supported games. Each Joy-Con has a full set of buttons and can act as a standalone controller, and each includes an accelerometer and gyroscope motion sensor, making independent left and right motion control possible. Nintendo Switch also contains a number of built-in features that make it more interactive. The left Joy-Con has a Capture Button that players can press to take instant screenshots of gameplay to share with friends on social media. The right Joy-Con includes an NFC touchpoint for interaction with amiibo figures, as well as an IR Motion Camera that can detect the distance, shape and motion of nearby objects in specially designed games. For example, it can tell how far away a player's hand is, and even if the hand is forming a rock, paper or scissors shape. Both Joy-Con include advanced HD rumble, which can provide compatible games with subtle vibrations that are much more realistic than before. The effect is so detailed that a player could, for example, feel the vibration of individual ice cubes colliding inside a glass when shaking a Joy-Con. With HD rumble you can experience a level of realism not possible through sights and sounds alone. Nintendo Switch makes it easy for players to stay connected. Up to 8 consoles can be connected for local wireless play. By placing the console upright using the built-in kickstand, players can independently use the left and right Joy-Con controllers to experience multiplayer fun anywhere. The console will support online Wi-Fi multiplayer gaming. Nintendo also unveiled a new online subscription service that will begin with a free trial at launch.

With the size and portability taken into mind, the Nintendo Switch is a nice little gaming power house. The ability to take your gaming experience with you on the road while retaining the full console experience is simply refreshing beyond belief. However, there are a few small design issues that prevent me from being able to give this platform a perfect rating. The built-in kickstand + memory card cover is a bit flimsy. The dock packaged with the machine is also a little unintuitive. Finally, it would have been nice to have a headphone port on the controller rather than the main unit. I know this will come across as a gripe but having the ability to listen to the games audio through the controller while you're playing is a nice feature on the PS4 and XB1 ... MoreWith the size and portability taken into mind, the Nintendo Switch is a nice little gaming power house. It simply makes it easier to game or watch movies late at night without risk of waking others. It would've been nice to see that here. But, other than that and the other two design gripes, I have no issue recommending the Switch. It's a fun gaming platform that's decently powerful while being perfect for people on the move a lot. If you have a long commute or spend a lot of time traveling and want to be able to play your favorite games, this may, in fact, be a lifesaver for you.

This thing is a joy. Just fun right out of the box. It reminded me of why I liked gaming 20 years ago and was the perfect fix for everything that's kept me away from the hobby as I've gotten older. Hardware design, software, games -- all fantastic so far. I was up and playing in minutes after opening the box. Only gripe is that the hardware feels just slightly under-built. There are some flaps and corners that I think will break over a few years of use. I remember older hand-held consoles from Nintendo like the Gameboy that were basically invincible and to this day I could pull out and play if I still had one. This isn't going to be that durable, unfortunately.

Fantastic Endeavor by Nintendo

After playing the Wii, it simply just lost its simplistic fun too early and became and monotonous set of repetitive motions. They doubled down on this theme with the Wii U and completely turned me off as a Nintendo lover. I must say, without a doubt, that the Switch is simply great gaming. Depending on your mood, or your current location, you can deep dive into a fully immersive world. Also, the quintessential "kid in the corner" vibe is lost just by pulling out a second controller and meeting a new friend. It brings me back to the days of NES, and opening up TMNT for the first time with a room full of friends. No need for trophies or achievements, or some bombastic attempt to get social media involved.... just let the game quality speak for itself. From a skeptic

I have to admit, when I first saw the advertisements and info for the switch, I concluded that Nintendo had given up on home consoles, realized their dominance in the handheld market, and had decided to just go where their strengths lie. But this is only half true. What they've created here is a truly dual use machine; I play the vast majority of my Breath of the Wild gameplay from my couch, with a Pro controller. But, when I needed to take my car to get the oil changed the other day, and I knew that meant an hour plus in the waiting room at my mechanic, it was amazing to be able to take that epic game (and the story that I'm so caught up in right now) with me and continue my gameplay. I don't know that I'll ever play 4 player basketball while gathered around a picnic table like in the commercials, but the portability is truly a revolution for some aspects of use. Now for the graphics; no, they are no where near what the other consoles bring. But then again, I'm a PC gamer as well, so a Triple A title on my PC, at an ultrawide 21:9 resolution much higher than 1080, with my Nvidia GTX 1080ti pushing everything at Ultra, looks MUCH better than a PS4 Pro. And honestly, I think any real gamer will tell you that graphics are only part of the equation. The last Call of Duty LOOKED amazing... but was not well reviewed or very good. So, as you can see from the reviews of BOTW, people will praise a well designed game with a certain art style, where it's very clear they tried, much more than a hyper realistic looking piece of crap. My one caveat is the future game selection. This was a problem for the Wii, the Wii U, and I fear will give the Switch a limited life of appeal. I've already checked out Mario Kart, and I must say it no longer has any appeal. How can Nintendo not see that what makes BOTW so amazing is how the game has evolved, even since something as amazing as Twilight Princess? Yet Mario Kart is the same game it has always been; a set of tracks, power ups, blah blah... racing games have highly evolved, now with open cities and every vehicle you can imagine available to you. I fear that if all the Switch has to offer in the future is another Mario Kart, another Mario (Galaxy, or whatever they call it), that I might sell mine having only ever used it as a Zelda machine. But for now... totally worth it!

Fun but still Nintendo

The nintendo switch is a lovely little machine, but that's what it is... a 'little machine'. To elaborate, you aren't getting anything you don't already expect. It's a nintendo console. And on top of that it's a glorified handheld that just has docking capabilities. Those two things combined means it is certainly NOT a powerful machine. I would say that nintendo is dropping the ball for games, too. If you like classic Nintendo games like Mario, Zelda and Pokemon, or you really love couch multi-player games then go ahead and get this. It'll be fun. But if you can live without those, there aren't too many switch titles that wouldn't be better played elsewhere. As for myself, I love Zelda and Pokemon so those are basically all I play on it, so it's fine for me. Fun product that goes where you do

Nintendo Switch is super cool. It's so much more compact and friendly than I expected. It makes the Wii U game-pad, separate console, and huge power brick look comically outdated. With the Switch, I'm playing the full Zelda throughout my apartment and can't wait to take it to-go next time I play. I have a nice Sony TV, so the only knock I'll give the Switch is the built in display. Things are fairly crisp, but the color is a tad washed out. This is only noticeable if you switch from the TV to handheld mode (or vice versa), in a gorgeous scene like Zelda with millions of vivid colors. My TV can reproduce way more it seems. That said, handheld mode really immerses you, since it's close and personal. The joy con controllers are a bit snug/tight/cramped but I'm loving ... MoreNintendo Switch is super cool. The joy con controllers are a bit snug/tight/cramped but I'm loving the simplicity of using the same controller in TV mode as handheld. I could see myself getting a new pair of joy cons, or a Pro controller, and keeping the joy cons attached semi-permanently. It's not a huge pain removing them, but sliding them back to charge can be difficult in a dark room. All in all, I'm really happy for Nintendo because I think the concept behind this console is super strong. Games will continue to roll out, and they're all really high quality so far.

New Nintendo system
17 August 2017

Nintendo has been a staple of gaming since the early 80s. Their lineage stretches far.back to the late 1800s. From playing cards, to love hotels, appliances, arcade cabinets, toys anf then finally games which ended up saving the gaming world from the gaming crash that occured in the early 1980s. From the gameboy all the way to the 3DS and now with their newest addition to their ever increasing systems... Nintendo Switch. A hybrid console/handheld system that can be played on the go and also at home. When the user doesnt want to play in portable mode they can dock the system and detach the joycons to play in a hdtv or monitor. The library is small but in due time will grow. Is the Switch worth it? Yes Are the games fun? Yes Is it perfect? No, but nothing else is.

Portable Triple A Games is Fantastic

I was skeptical of the system at first, but it is a success that cannot be ignored. I really enjoy having the ability to play fantastic games anywhere, without being tied to sitting in front of a TV or computer. Even though, I am inside my home I find myself gaming in all sorts of places, in bed and at the dining room table. Its portability is great. There is a great list of software available too. Exclusive triple-A games, Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild (not interested in Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles), are few in between right now but there is a great fill of indie titles. The Switch is Switching the Way You Play.

The Nintendo Switch is an extremely novel piece of hardware. It is one of the most unique gaming experiences I've ever had the pleasure of playing. It is fast, efficient, and a very ergonomically pleasing design. The Joy-Cons, though small, are very pleasing to the eye and touch; they feel smooth and are quite comfortable to the touch. They can either be placed in the Nintendo Switch tablet, the Joy-Con Grip, or be played all by them selves by yourself or with a friend, and all feel quite responsive, though may take a bit of getting used to. The Switch tablet itself is hosting a custom Nvidia gadget, making it a powerhouse of a portable device, and with the Nintendo Switch Docking Station, can instantly be turned into a home console, streaming games to 1080p, rather ... MoreThe Nintendo Switch is an extremely novel piece of hardware. To me, the Switch has immense potential. It plays The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild exceedingly well, and it is so satisfying to go back and forth from TV to tablet mode. Unfortunately, a lack of launch titles and a few minor things like storage and processing power slightly hold the Switch nack, but it does very well have a fighting chance. It could very well dominate the gaming market in the coming years if Nintendo plays their cards correctly. Only time will tell.
