I waited to get a switch until the OLED came out so I can’t compare it directly with the original myself but I definitely like the stand and screen size better on my OLED than on my roomies switch original. I mainly chose OLED over original for screen size and battery life. I originally got the blue/red model since it’s cheaper but eventually caved and got a pair of white joy cons and they definitely live up to the hype paired with my custom skins. (For anyone wondering my skins are all removable because I applied them to clear cases for the joycons and dock.) My only issue so far is I’m hesitant to take it anywhere because it feels like it’ll snap in half/break really easily. Thin is sleek yea but it doesn’t have much protection even with a clear case and screen protector. I keep it in the dock most of the time because I’m paranoid sitting on it will accidentally break it. I’ve had it for a little under a year now and I haven’t had any problems with my dock bending/getting stuck like I’ve seen with OG switches. I actually got my OLED stuck in my roommates dock one terrifying time so now I just move my dock with the device if I wanna use someone else’s tv. There’s occasional connection issues in TV mode when I first connect it. This isn’t a longstanding issue yet but I do see it being a problem in the future. The joy cons have held up alright. Haven’t experienced any drift so far but I have needed to put on thumb grip caps because of how worn down the left stick was. It was getting hard to use but the thumb grip fixed that completely. I really love this system (it’s my only system besides my GameCube) and am happy to see it has a pretty wide variety of game options despite a fairly small device/lower processor. It’s even introduced me to the dark souls franchise and I’m hoping for a port of the other two games in the series.

To begin, it’s important to understand the context of the product. While it is tremendously polished for its use-case (family, and causal gaming), it lacks a fundamental element of gaming culture that is, frankly, impossible to ignore: power. When the Nintendo Switch released in March of 2017, it followed one of Nintendo’s largest commercial failures, the Wii U. As a successor to their largest success, the Wii, Nintendo implemented a second screen with the Wii U, one which, when implemented well, could be a satisfying and impressive gaming experience. However, due to a lack of support from first-party titles, and a dismal marketing campaign, the Wii U felt to many consumers as less its own console, and more an improvement on the existing Wii console (The name of the ... MoreTo begin, it’s important to understand the context of the product. As a successor to their largest success, the Wii, Nintendo implemented a second screen with the Wii U, one which, when implemented well, could be a satisfying and impressive gaming experience. However, due to a lack of support from first-party titles, and a dismal marketing campaign, the Wii U felt to many consumers as less its own console, and more an improvement on the existing Wii console (The name of the console didn’t help to mitigate these fears). While Nintendo could have ditched the second screen in favor of something else, they doubled down for their newest console, the Nintendo Switch. A bold move, but one that cemented their confidence in the technology they built, but failed to utilize with the Wii U. Luckily for Nintendo, the Switch was a massive success, surpassing all modern consoles around it as the highest selling modern console, cementing itself as the new king of casual gaming in the living room and on the go. The Nintendo Switch OLED follows the trend of many other modern console refreshes: take the existing hardware, improve on a few pain points, and re-release it with a higher price tag. So does Nintendo succeed in their quest for the ultimate portable-but-also-capable home console? Well, mostly. If the extent of your Switch gaming will be relegated to Nintendo’s first-party titles, such as Mario, Animal Crossing, and Zelda, you’ll feel right at home with this console. The Nintendo Switch is remarkably well-optimized for the casual gaming market, and is just as powerful as it needs to be to accommodate Nintendo’s largest IPs. However, it is important to note that even Nintendo’s newest releases, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, struggle to maintain even a smooth 30fps, which can be immersion-breaking to watch the stutter. The upgrades to the Nintendo Switch OLED are not numerous, but they are quite welcome: the new OLED screen is the best 720p display I have ever laid my eyes on, and I am consistently impressed with the battery life on this console. In conclusion, the Nintendo Switch OLED might be the best family console of all time, but it lacks the power of its competitors, which will cause issues for those hardcore gamers among us. While I adore my Nintendo Switch OLED and have a bit of trouble putting it down, I can’t help but wonder where Nintendo will go from here, and if this refresh will eventually lead to a more powerful console down the pipeline. Nintendo Switch OLED: Power: 2.5/5 Games Library: 5/5 Fun Factor: 5/5 Battery Life: 4.75/5 Controller(s) 3.5/5 Conclusion: 4.15/5

It created an enveloping soundscape that really enhanced gameplay, especially during our quieter evenings after exploring the Garden of the Gods or taking the Pikes Peak Cog Railway.Yet, as great as the console is, it’s not without its minor downsides. Battery life, while sufficient for most, remained a challenge during some of our longer road trips. Additionally, the absence of hardware upgrades means that performance is pretty much the same as the older version. For those expecting a power boost, you might be a little disappointed.Despite these minor issues, the Switch OLED proved itself a fun, versatile, and vibrant addition to our family trip. From entertaining the kids during travel time to hosting impromptu family tournaments in our vacation lodging, it was undoubtedly a major part of our Colorado Springs adventure. All in all, the Nintendo Switch OLED is not just a gaming console, it’s a companion that brings people together, creating shared joy and memories, wherever your journey takes you. It certainly did for our family in Colorado Springs, and I have no doubt it'll continue to do so on many more family trips to come.

I absolutely love the Nintendo Switch OLED! I bought this for myself to play games in bed while the wife watches one of her shows. I also got it to introduce and play video games with my kids. I eventually bought myself a steam deck and gave the OLED Switch to the kiddos. They absolutely love playing pretty much any game i get for them and it has given us some memorable fun times! Dont buy one expecting to play AAA titles or visually demanding games with top graphics and controls because it just doesnt have the power to do so. You can still play some pretty demanding games but I'd rather do that on the PC, Steam Deck, or streaming them via a service like geforce now or XBOX Gamepass. The JOYCON controllers are in fact named well because you will be conned out of a good chunk of change when you get the inevitable stick drift. I recommend gettin an extra set of joycons and doing a Hall Sensor replacement kit through Gulikit or i think ifixit has an option as well. This way you wont ever have to replace your joycons again, cause the asking price for a new one is ridiculous. Also Nintendo is horrible with shared libraries and makes it a hastle to say switch from your oled to the same game on your switch lite. This legitimately made me mad, why should i have to buy a game twice to play it on my lite when im already paying for a family plan. Other than Nintendos predatory practices its a great device. I 1000% recommend getting Best Buys warranty on it as it is one of the best warranties you can buy for the switch as well as anything you get from BB. Ive never once had an issue with getting what i need/want with a warranty from Best Buy. Shoot they replaced my 2 year old 4K 65 INCH LG CX AT 0 COST TO ME.
I am a complete gaming nerd and had the red box (second edition) Switch and finally decided after dealing with wobbly joy cons and a sub par screen in handheld mode, which made me never use it in handheld mode, decided to upgrade to the white OLED Model. Words cannot describe the quality upgrade in every aspect of the system. Let's start with build quality. This has newly designed joy con rails on each side of the console, the front half material is metal and the screen is actually glass, making a gentle wipe with a screen cleaning cloth actually able to clean the screen, the back is now a very hard matte plastic with the kickstand now the length of the entire console, it's on amazing smooth moving hinges and you can adjust it's angle to suite how you are playing in ... MoreI am a complete gaming nerd and had the red box (second edition) Switch and finally decided after dealing with wobbly joy cons and a sub par screen in handheld mode, which made me never use it in handheld mode, decided to upgrade to the white OLED Model. This has newly designed joy con rails on each side of the console, the front half material is metal and the screen is actually glass, making a gentle wipe with a screen cleaning cloth actually able to clean the screen, the back is now a very hard matte plastic with the kickstand now the length of the entire console, it's on amazing smooth moving hinges and you can adjust it's angle to suite how you are playing in tabletop mode. Next the near inch larger OLED screen, I new it would be an improvement, but it is phenomenal, I now only play my Switch in n portable and am replaying games just to see them on that gorgeous screen, I have a very expensive TV, but it's 4K, Dolby Vision, HDR10, the Switch does not utilize my TV like my Xbox Series does. But it does utilize that gorgeous built-in OLED screen. Performance, OK so they say it's the same Tegra X1 as the red box Switch, something is improved, games run smoother, it has a smaller cooling fan that runs half as often. Every demanding game looks and runs more fluidly, some of that is the screen and how phenomenal it looks, but try I'm talking performance wise as well, I've heard it from other upgraders too. Now let's go to audio, it has all new speakers, now reviews said it's not a huge difference, it's a huge improvement trust me, max volume they are louder, and best way to describe it is just bigger sounding. No distortion, just another quality improvement that makes handheld play that much better. It also has a much better fitting dock. I'm pleased to say the battery life is the same as the V2 (red box) Switch, 4-9 hours depending what your playing. It actually takes less energy to run an OLED because there is no backlight the pixels themselves light up or for black completely turn off, why it has much deeper blacks. You get twice the onboard storage 64GB instead of the regular Switch's 32GB, and of course there is still the Micro SD expansion card slot to add more storage. For 50 more dollars than the standard Switch model you are getting improvements in every category, it's a tad heavier, but that's because of the better build quality and it's a tiny tiny bit bigger. And the design change goes internal, just know the internals layout has been revised in this model the changes aren't just skin deep. It is worth upgrading even if you already have the standard Switch. It's extremely worth upgrading, I now play it everywhere and it's so solidly built it actually feels like it it's not going to break, I would not drop it, but it definitely has a premium build quality as it is the premium Switch. I am so glad I upgraded. If your buying a Switch the 50 dollars extra is easily easily worth it.

The diverse library of games available ensures that there's always something new to explore and enjoy. The only drawback I've noticed is that the battery life is slightly shorter compared to the original Switch model, especially when playing demanding games. However, the joy of gaming on the stunning OLED screen outweighs this minor inconvenience. In conclusion, the Nintendo Switch OLED Model is a gaming masterpiece that delivers an exceptional experience. The immersive OLED display, portability, and versatility of the console make it an absolute joy to use. If you're a gaming enthusiast looking for an upgrade or a newcomer to the Nintendo world, this console is a must-have addition to your gaming arsenal.

The increased memory and processing power also mean I can download more games and apps without worrying about storage space issues.Another pleasing update is the upgraded built-in storage of the new Switch, which is now 64GB. While it might still be insufficient for some players, it's a step up from the previous 32GB. However, it's still recommended for players to equip a microSD card to further expand storage space, especially for those who download a lot of games.Apart from performance upgrades, the Switch OLED Model retains the versatile nature that the Switch series is known for. Whether for solo gaming, multiplayer cooperation, or using various control methods, this gaming console caters to the needs of different types of players. However, the new Switch isn't without some controversy. Some individuals might feel that the upgrades aren't substantial enough, especially considering the increase in price. Additionally, some players hope the new Switch will address certain issues that existed in previous versions, such as controller drift. All in all, the Nintendo Switch OLED Model gaming console is an intriguing upgrade. Its OLED screen and performance improvements make for a remarkable gaming experience. Despite some controversies, it remains a solid choice for players seeking better visuals and performance.
Now that I’ve got my hands on it, I regret not purchasing the oled model when it launched. I’m upgrading from the OG switch launch model, and the improvement in the screen and battery life is significant. On paper, the screen is only slightly larger, but in person, it’s significant. With the oled, the colors really pop, not nearly as washed out looking as the original switch, and it gets much brighter too. It’s just gorgeous. The current hardware is also much more energy efficient. The battery life vs the launch model is roughly doubled, and I had just put a new battery in mine 6 months ago. The kickstand is actually useful, where the OG felt like it would break off just opening it. If I have to have a complaint, it’s that the air intake vents have been moved to the ... MoreNow that I’ve got my hands on it, I regret not purchasing the oled model when it launched. The current hardware is also much more energy efficient. The battery life vs the launch model is roughly doubled, and I had just put a new battery in mine 6 months ago. The kickstand is actually useful, where the OG felt like it would break off just opening it. If I have to have a complaint, it’s that the air intake vents have been moved to the bottom edge and little rubber feet have been added, I guess to prevent it from sliding on a surface. I often like to tuck my pinky fingers under the bottom when playing handheld, and these changes make it less comfortable to hold this way. It’s a minor thing that I’ll get used to, and is hardly even worth mentioning when you consider the other upgrades. The transfer process was a real headache, you have to have both consoles side by side to transfer, and then download a special app to transfer your animal crossing island. There are also some games where saves will not transfer under any circumstances. Then your sd card has to be erased and all games redownloaded, 300gb with in my case. This is not the fault of the switch console, but it is Nintendo and their archaic online system and DRM. If they had their act together the process would be as simple as signing in on the new switch, moving over the sd card with all games, and just syncing the cloud saves.Update: After more use, I found 2 other areas where this oled model falls short. I’ve found the game card slot cover is impossible to open without some sort of thin tool to stick in there and pop it open. There is no way to grip it or get a fingernail under it. If you’re mainly digital, like me, then it’s not a concern, but if you only buy physical versions of games this will likely irritate you. Also the wifi still sucks. The original switch was notorious for its poor wifi connectivity, and I can confirm it has not been improved in the oled model. If anything, it seems worse. The new one drops the signal and fails to connect in locations where the old one worked.
