When soft grain is too expensive, this is a great premium medium grain rice. The grains are all consistent in size and color. All the grains are white and some have opaque spots, but beautiful to look at. When cooked the grains are starchy and stick together. The flavor is sweet and texture is chewy. If you want more starch and sticky texture add more water. I like this for making kimbap or sushi.

The rice cooks well, but it is poorly protected on the manufacturer's level and so my bag was infested with weevils. They are "not considered" to be dangerous to your health, and can be "rinsed" off the rice before cooking. NO THANKS. I am not eating any rice that had or has bugs. I will be purchasing a different brand from now on, and checking for those tiny bugs in all rices, flours and grain products

I like the way this rice tastes. I cook it for dishes that need rice to serve such as black beans, I also use it for making rice pudding in the Instant Pot. It cooks perfectly in my small rice cooker as well as in a sauce pan. I have cooked without washing the rice and also with washing the rice, it turns out well for me no matter how I cook it. Everyone has a different taste for cooked rice, this rice is very adaptable to different methods of cooking. The quality is very high, clean and I had to really search to find a broken grain.
I was looking for Arborio rice to make risotto and after a short period of luck withMahatma brand Arborio rice, I had hard times finding it at the stores so, I lookedonline for subtitutes and sushi rice was recommended along with Basmati. This is my first time using Nishiki rice and I was impressed. The cooking time and wather ratio are similar to Arborio, the texture and taste are fantastic. This is my new favorite! This rice costs about $1.25 per pound versus the Arborio at $2.50
Nishiki brand rice has been the rice in my household since I remember. My Issei mom used to grow rice in Japan old world style, and she'd kept going back to this rice in particular. It's exactly what the Japanese household would use, and is cooked via steaming in special rice cookers for around the clock eating. Some facts about Japanese rice: it has the most starch of any rice, period. This is why the flavor and consistency of Japanese variety rice is so different than converted and mainland Asian rice. This high starch content makes a stickier rice, which is preferred in Japanese cooking, and is much more filling. For those used to converted "fluffy" rice it will take some getting used too, but you'll notice a clear difference why it is proper rice for Japanese cooking.Accept no substitute. This is the real McCoy!
love the price and the product. This is why I started my $98 membership. I always shop Walmart but this is fabulous and this is why I choose Walmart as MY ONLY grocery etc. shopping. Your tofu delivery too has sealed the deal.
Nishiki rice is a staple in in my kitchen. I think it is the best middle-of-the-road Japanese-American style white rice, slightly sticky, will work for sushi rolls in a pinch. Cooks fast, and does nicely stove-top or rice-maker. My husband figured out a way to cook it stove-top which makes it come out deliciously crispy along the edges.I've ordered it from Walmart several times, and it always arrives in perfect condition. Note that the bag is not waterproof, to allow the rice to breathe, so don't make the same mistake I did and try to "wash down" the packaging! Now I just pour it into large jars for storage (the 5 pound bag takes slightly less than two half-gallon mason jars).
Great quality rice! Cooks up perfectly in my rice cooker. And the price is fantastic, especially shipped. So happy that I was able to get it, considering most places were sold out. If you are looking for the same type of rice that is used in Japanese restaurants and homes, this is it. California-grown medium grain New Variety Calrose rice. I have tried this, Botan, and my standard brand was Kukuho Rose Koda Farms, and find them all to be pretty much the same high quality rice that my Japanese mom makes.
the rice is a different packaging, but the weight and type is correct. the biggest let down is the FedEx delivery. I had one bag busted open during shipping. it was a rainy day, FedEx did not put plastic bag over the boxes. cardboard was totally wet from the rain. the rice bag is plastic, but the damaged bag is wet. see my photos.
