I'm very early in the game, but so far am really enjoying it! I'm playing it in VR via SteamVR over to Meta Quest 2 and it's incredibly immersive and fun, especially once you get your ship and base up and running! I worry the gameplay loop of harvesting/building/refining/unrefining/harvesting again will get stale, but I know there's a lot of the game I haven't seen yet (just built my first base), and so far the sense of discovery is really incredible.

I recently picked up No Man's Sky and am hooked! The open-world aspect of it and having so much I can do has kept me entertained for 52 hours so far, with no end in sight. Feeling like I can do whatever I want, however I want, at my own pace and that is very attractive to me. I love the graphics, sounds, music, and bright colors. I know I've barely scratched the surface of all this game has for me and am anticipating every minute. Now if you'll excuse me, it's time to boot up the game again.

I got this the first time it came out in Aug 2016. When it first came out there wasn’t a lot to do except to fly around and scanned different animals, plants and materials (ie rocks). It wasn’t that fun but now after several updates, I would definitely tell people if they like an adventure game to get this game. It is a bit difficult at the beginning but after about 50 to 75 game hours this game gets really fun with the different types of basses and different type of game plays. I suggest if anybody is bored to look into this game and get it. Very amazing now

This is one of my favourite games. There is so much to do in this game and it can be as big as you make it. The graphics are amazing and the game is constantly being updated so it’s always getting better. It’s a free roaming game where you explore the universe by exploring planets that have different atmosphere from tropical planets to fire planets to ice planets. You have to explore different alien species and learn their languages. You get to build your base where and however you want. The most important part, i believe is the fact you have different game modes. Creative, survival, permi-death. Would totally recommend. 10/10

The sheer amount of high quality content within this game is staggering, and the consistent updates further improving upon and adding upon it make this game a marvel at all angles. I've owned the game on my own for a couple years and just bought a copy for my friend, and between both of us the experience is mirrored; the game is extremely fun and enthralling, with just enough depth to each of its mechanics to allow you to focus on whatever aspect of the space adventure you prefer. It is important to note though that if you take a long enough break with this game, you might find the state of the game has changed wildly or that you don't really know what you were last doing, so taking notes as you play might be necessary if you drop games for months at a time.

This game was billed, and is still being billed as an amazing concept. But the concept never became a reality. The advertising material being used to sell you this title is from the 2014 build of the game, no fault of Mighty Ape's, it's the screen shot's Hello Games have issued advertisers. Players have since learnt that this version of the game never existed, the version we are playing is a very watered down version. There are no dinosaurs, no giant creatures at all, no giant trees, no sand worms, no sand planets, no beaches, no snow, no large space battles. The best way to describe this title is Minecraft without the Crafting. If the main character only had a sword and a boat, and went around the map breaking trees and rocks constantly to refuel and repair the ... MoreThis game was billed, and is still being billed as an amazing concept. Reviews will talk about two story path's: The Atlas Path, and the journey to the centre of the universe. Without spoiling you, neither of these paths will reward you in any way. All the story comes by way of text, no dialogue. No cut scene. No answers. No end. The game does a good job of (occasionally) creating a pretty planet to look at, but more often than not the planet is a bare rock with the same 10 plants you've seen on all the other planets. In truth, its a playable screen saver. This would be best alongside games like Journey, or Unfinished Swan. It has no right to be sitting next to any AAA titles- Uncharted, Fallout 4, these types of games are far superior. Minecraft is also far superior to No Man's Sky. Buyer beware.

Before purchasing this game, answer a few questions. Don't you love MMO's - Do you thrive in a game that has you as the world saving hero- Do you expect a tutorial in a new genre of game for you as the player, to proper explain everything that is strange to you in that game-. Do you love inventories that are minimal, efficient, and easy to navigate-. Do you love a story driven game with different twists, plots and character complexity. If you answered YES to any of the above, THIS GAME IS NOT FOR YOU.NO offense intended. PROs- A randomly generated Galaxy sized sandbox, that allows you to explore and realise your dream of exploring space. Art that is as beautiful as the world's are deadly. If you answered YES to any of the above, THIS GAME IS NOT FOR YOU.NO offense intended. PROs- A randomly generated Galaxy sized sandbox, that allows you to explore and realise your dream of exploring space. Art that is as beautiful as the world's are deadly. The thrill of standing on an alien cliff and knowing that you are the only one that has seen this view. The ability to name a planet, it's flora and fauna, as you see fit, provided of course, you discovered it first. The trading aspect of the game and the space battles against pirates and so the list goes on. CON's - The worst tutorial I have ever experienced, explains absolutely NOTHING !If it wasn't for some good folk on YouTube, the first 4 hour's game time would have been a nightmare. Slippery space ship controls in space battles. Lack of lock on referring of enemy ships. An inventory that needs overhauling, NOW. Restrictive inventory slots available on both your suit and ship. Annoying sentry drones that patrol the individual planets. Space ship shield system that needs MANUAL RECHARGING, while in the heat of unpauseable battle. Ridiculous to say the least. The lack of M3 class planets, they are rare. (It's the type of planet this one is) Considering this is a populated galaxy, where are the city centres- Also the lack of being able to build a home on a planet, AT THE MOMENT, though the developers are adding that in, within the next few months. You would think from all my negative comments about this game, I HATE IT !. Quite the contrary, finally a game that gives the ps4 a reason to exist, though we play both types of consoles, the ps4 was lacklustre, till this showed up. One final good point, this is the only game that due to its procedurally generated setup, HAS NO LOADING SCREENS, ZONES OR WHATEVER. You see a trade station, you walk in, the door opens and you are inside. You leave it same thing. You blast off from a planet to travel into the void, once again no loading screens. It truly is a marvel of a game, as long as you, the player, realise off the bat, THIS IS A SOLITARY EXPERIENCE. It's you against the universe, and everything that is out to neither eat or kill you. Cannot recommend this game enough, AS LONG AS YOU DIDNT ANSWER YES, to any of the original questions. Go in with no PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS, and you WILL enjoy yourself. Have a nice day.

Lots of fun, no gore
26 December 2018

You wake up in a strange environment and then try to discover what is going on, while trying to get more and better technology in the process: A and B are needed to get C, but A is hard to find without using C etc. and so far the novelties seem unlimited. Presumably this will extend beyond completion of the extended introductory story, which serves also as a guide to a multiplicity of functions. Along the way there seem to be places or events which may be bugged, to the effect that exploits present themselves for too rapid progression. This is probably unintended and in some respects the game is a grind, while still being developed, so it might be forgiven. Since is the game's first appearance the story itself may have been rendered more of an integral part of the game and it is most entertaining. Along the way there is every opportunity to explore in different ways so it's indeed an open universe, and it seems refreshingly original to me. Especially recommended because there is plenty of action without all that gratuitous and objectionable cruelty and gore.

Alright first off, do not go to youtube and scope out the trailers they showed for the game they are mainly false. Find some actual footage of people playing the game to see how much they really left out! I have honestly played the game well over 100+ hours to give it it's fair try and before I could truly criticize it. They did have an update for the system a few months back called "The Foundation Update" which did improve it a little but not up to the specs of where they showed it should be. If you're looking for "Amazing graphics" this game will let you down in comparison to Next Gen games most are seeing lately. The only true factor is yes it is endless there is no way anyone even if they played it 50 years straight would ever come close to getting to all the ... MoreAlright first off, do not go to youtube and scope out the trailers they showed for the game they are mainly false. If you're looking for "Amazing graphics" this game will let you down in comparison to Next Gen games most are seeing lately. The only true factor is yes it is endless there is no way anyone even if they played it 50 years straight would ever come close to getting to all the planets. But, on that note keep in mind as many planets as there are there maybe only a couple of dozen really because after you hit say the first 30 planets, I doubt you find any others that will really stand out as unique they all have the same skins after that. But on a positive note, it's truly great IF you love to do some exploration and just wonder around. There are many times I caught myself looking up at the sky in the night and seeing 5 planets all around me which was quite awesome simply because I said "hey, I wanna go there right now to any of them" and could. I hope this kinda gives you a good idea of what you're getting and honestly with the price drop, it's worth it at $20. To any of the parents reading this, aside from what is a toy laser gun to Mine objects with there isn't too much violence unless you're kid just likes shooting aliens and space ships.

Space . . . The (Almost) Infinite Frontier

Summary: Few games have the honor of being as highly anticipated as No Man’s Sky. What was promised was nothing short of revolutionary. The scope of the game was almost unfathomable. The sheer amount of freedom and discovery gamers looked forward to with this release is nothing short of the uncontrollable excitement a child experiences the night before Christmas. Does it deliver on all the promises? Yes and no is the best answer to that question. Graphics: The visuals are delightful and mostly on par with what you would expect from this title, technically speaking. I felt that detail could be a little higher when being very close to things such as plants and terrain. The art style is fairly unique and the palette fits well. Most colors are slightly ‘washed’, or have a pastel feel to them, adding to the unique sci-fi feel. There is a familiarity in some plants and creatures from planet to planet, but that is to be expected to some extent when considering the scope of the game. Sound: The sound effects work well and are thought out. The technology sounds are appropriate and add to the ambience. The dynamic creature noises are interesting and even amusing at times. There’s not a lot of background noises, but what is there increases the realism. The sound track is nothing less than stellar and an absolute pleasure to experience in the game. I thought it would have been neat on the PS4 to have the system feedback announcements come through the controller speaker. Gameplay: This is where gamers choose sides. I’ve seen a lot of negative feedback on the game, both from gameplay and technical issues. In a time when MOBAs and high action shooters seem to reign supreme, I was looking forward to a slower-pace exploration game. The gameplay can get monotonous for some due to the constant necessity to mine materials to charge your life support and other critical tools and systems. You fly to a new planet, start scavenging materials, possibly find monoliths and other cool discoveries that increase your knowledge of certain alien races, go to another planet and repeat. A player can take extra time to interact with the alien species, trade, and upgrade their equipment, which I find satisfying. I enjoy taking my time experiencing the different planet’s characteristics, making discoveries, often renaming them, and then uploading them from the world to see. As for the technical issues, the game has crashed twice on my PS4 (which I’d not yet experienced a crash on my PS4 yet), and I’ve experience no issues on my PC. The framerate stutters a bit as the game is loading but after a few minutes the framerate seems solid and smooth. Final Thoughts: I think the game is a huge success and I love playing it. I love how small it makes you feel when accessing the galaxy map and how I can take as much time as I want exploring as long as I keep my critical equipment charged. I love discovering upgrades for my multi tool and finding really strange creatures. I also love not being forced into explosive combat situations all the time. Not everyone will love the game as I can see how some would find it tedious and monotonous, but I, for one, am very pro-No Man’s Sky. I love it and keep an eye out – you just might find one of the many planets I’ve discovered!
