As the successor to the award-winning NH-L12 low-profile cooler, the compact NH-L12S combines outstanding compatibility, excellent efficiency and remarkable flexibility. Thanks to the slim NF-A12x15 PWM 120-mm fan, the NH-L12S offers even quieter cooling than the predecessor model with its 92-mm fan. At the same time, the NH-L12S is highly flexible: if the fan is mounted above the cooling fins, the cooler supports RAM modules with a height of up to 48 mm. If the fan is mounted below, the total height is only 70 mm, so the cooler fits in many HTPC and small form factor cases. The high-quality complete package of the NH-L12S is rounded off by the professional SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system and Noctua's proven NT-H1 thermal compound - a premium solution for the highest demands in the low-profile range! Caution: The cooler has excellent cooling performance in its class, but is not suitable for overclocking or CPUs with high heat emissions.

If I could give this cooler 7 stars out of 5 I could.Excellent cooling capability - was a bit worried it would be a little too weak, but outperformed my expectations. It looks great too - the steel sheets cover up the fan almost entirely, and the all-white PC looks just fine with the Noctua colours.By far the quietest cooler I have ever used - during testing I was having difficulty knowing if the PC was powering up or not it was so quiet. The customer also remarked how silent the PC was. Super happy with this purchase.

- I cannot recommend this product; I will be looking at replacing this cooler soon with a different one that is better compatible with my motherboard.

Installed in a LZ7 mini itx case to cool an i5-8400, in the optimal orientation (heatpipes facing the back of the motherboard). The cooler (barely) clears my Corsair LPX RAM in low-profile mode. The fan is near inaudible at idle and still pleasant at full speed -- my PSU's minor buzzing/whine is noisier than this fan at idle. Performance is frankly overkill for the CPU: even without a case fan (!), the CPU doesn't exceed 80C during prime95 heat torture testing. This isn't my first Noctua product, and it won't be my last; I am more than pleased.
Be wary if building in Small Form Factor, likely the fan underneath will touch the memory unless you have low-profile memory, and some cases the fan on top will be too high to put the side panel on. (SSUPD Meshlicious). Great performance and excellent cooler however.
I've always used stock coolers in previous builds, but the Ryzen 1800x doesn't come with one, so I read reviews and decided this would be a good cooler, and it is great. The instructions are a little vague, and if you're doing your first build, it might be intimidating. But this thing is... not pretty. if you're doing a build that you want to look fancy, this is not your cooler. First, it's huge. It covers two of the DIMM slots on my motherboard.120mm fan covers a lot of space. Next, it's... how to be polite? It's ugly. the fan, if you're not using it in "low profile", will sit on top of the aluminum heat pipes, and it is brown... like ugly brown. But if you don't care about looks, and you can work around the size, it's honestly impressive.
Used this in a HTPC build in a SilverStone GD08 case with a AMD 5600x cpu. Works Great. My ram modules where a little taller than the cooler would allow. After the steam stopped rolling off the top of my head I found the heat pipes on this cooler are very flexible. With a slight modification all coexists well. I used all Noctua fans, the best case fans that exist.
Keeps my cpu at a nice 58c-61c under full load. Although I've looked at Noctua coolers for years this was my first purchase. The quality is top notch--even down to the packaging and instructions. Needed a low profile cooler to work with my open air mining rig rack and this works perfectly. Intel i3-8100, Asus Prime Z370-P, 4 gb DDR 2400, 240 gb SSD, 5x rx 570 4gb GPU, 2x rx 580 8gb gpu, Corsair TM850X PSU and Corsair CX750M psu, 006c powered risers.
Upgraded from the Wraith Stealth stock cooler and have noticed a ~15-20 degree decrease in cpu temps, and all this from a tiny form factor! One thing to note, only works in the lowest configuration with very low profile ram such as Kingston Fury Beast
So, I didn't *NEED* a low profile cooler. This is because the case I built in, despite being mini-itx, is much larger than most mini-itx systems. But I did want something that took up less space, to give my gpu more breathing room, and I just really liked the look of this cooler with the fan in low-profile mode, with the metal fins showing. At full load rendering footage through media encoder, this cooler keeps a ryzen 5 3600 at around 71c, and gaming temps in Far Cry 5 tend to stay at 65-68c. For a low profile cooler, this is excellent, and I haven't seen any downclocking on my processor despite what I've thrown at it. All in all, good little unit. It's quiet and works well with ryzen 5 3600 when there is sufficient airflow. I've attached a pic of my finished computer so anyone building with this cooler can see. Also, I used corsair lpx ram, on a gigabyte mini itx motherboard, so the clearance with those components is sufficient, although because of the exhaust fan at the top of my case, I can't install the cooler with the heat pipes up, so I put it in horizontally. Noctua's website says that in this rotation cooling efficiency is still good.
