The NH-L9a-AM4 is the latest, AM4-specific revision of Noctua's award-winning NH-L9a low-profile CPU cooler for AMD Ryzen-based HTPCs and Small Form Factor (SFF) systems. At a height of only 37mm, the NH-L9a is ideal for extremely slim cases and, due to its small footprint, it provides 100% RAM and PCIe compatibility as well as easy access to near-socket connectors even on tightly packed mini-ITX motherboards. The custom-designed SecuFirm2 mounting system for the AM4 socket makes installation child's play and, thanks to the highly optimized NF-A9x14 92mm fan that supports fully automatic speed control via PWM, the NH-L9a-AM4 runs remarkably quietly. Topped off with Noctua's renowned NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-L9a-AM4 combines everything users have come to expect from Noctua's larger coolers into a super-compact, premium-quality package for ITX and HTPC builds with Ryzen CPUs or APUs.

I purchased this cooler to use in an usff (ultra small form factor) PC. I am specifically using it in the Asrock Minidesk X300, and it does a great job cooling the system whilst also staying quiet! It also looks nice, to boot!

I got this cooler to replace a stock AMD cooler where the stupid RGB fan died. It took about ten minutes to install. It leaves plenty of clearance in the mini-tower case I’m using. I put this cooler on an AMD Ryzen 7 1700X. Temps at idle were about 35c. I didn’t see the temps get over 55c. The fan is pretty quiet as well. Recommended.

Got this cooler for my Mini ITX build after having to change plans from my original plans. Boy, have I been impressed with this thing. Absolute workhorse and runs super cool despite being in such a tight space. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a really efficient low profile cooler.

The Noctua cpu cooler is a quiet, compact CPU cooler that fits very nicely inside my ITX-mini case. It was easy to install, and it has run without incident as I've maxed out my new linux box with multithreaded applications in scientific computing. I have no trouble keeping all 16 virtual cores busy handling thousands of queued threads running in parallel on my midrange 8 CPU Ryzen chip, and while I can hear the fan spin up, it hasn't been a bother, and there has been no adverse overheating, even with sustained maximum use.The hardest part was unpacking the *naming* convention. Noctua NH-L9a is for the AM4. The Noctual NH-L9i is the intel mothernboard version. The difference is clear *after* you see them side by side, but not before. Microcenter was decent about swapping my mispurchased Intel version for the correct AMD version.
When I decided to swap my build into a new case, I figured I would finally upgrade past the stock cooler I got back in 2018. I didnt think it would give me too much of a performance boost at first, but It ended up helping keep my CPU a lot cooler than it used to. Honestly the colors will eventually grow on you, if thats something you care about!
I love the brown and cream colors, but I know some people don’t think the same. But they do have one in black, but honestly, 20.- more just because of the color is a bit too much.It comes with everything you will need, and more!I personally loved the metal stick it comes with! I still didn’t found where I want to put it, but it is really nice!
If you're looking for a slim, quiet, and aesthetically pleasing, then this is the fan for you! Packaging is great and build quality feels solid. Great product from Noctua!
Use it in a Asrock Deskmini X300 with Ryzen 5700G APU. Runs silent under full load. With a 5700G APU I`ve measured idle: 30dgr and full load: 85dgr.Easy to mount, there is even thermal compound paste included in the package. I order Thermal Grizzly (which has a better thermal conductivity) and did not use the Noctua paste.I would have preferred a black fan in stead of the off-white cooling fan. The off white cooler is visible in the deskmini housing. Maybe I`ll replace it in future for a 12cm fan.
Overall, this cpu cooler serves its purpose. My case has two motherboards in it and the stock Wraith cooler on the second board was obstructing my second and third PCI-e slots. This cooler does run several degrees hotter than the Wraith Cooler due to having a smaller heatsink. It was slightly difficult to install on the mini-ITX board due to the wider spread of the heatsink. But these problems were expected going into it.On the plus side, the fan is sufficiently silent even without the low noise adapter, which I would not suggest using as it makes the cooler run even hotter. My biggest complaint is that the fan is not a standard size fan, and as a result I'm stuck with the hideously ugly colors that don't match the rest of my case at all. I bought this in an attempt to make my Asus prebuilt quieter. It worked very well. No performance lost versus the stock cooler. No performance gained either though. If you are looking for a very quiet product look no further. Does its intended purpose.
