It showed that 500mg of Vit C twice daily slowed glycaemic uptake by I think 34%, and for I believe three hours (I’m not sure if I remembered exactly, but the percentage was definitely in the thirties). It was surmised that this is likely due to the antioxidant properties of Vit C. It also was shown to help hypertension (high blood pressure), and there were improvements over other areas too, though less statistically significant. As a person with multiple, long-term health conditions and disabilities however, my belief is that if it is safe and I gain even 0.5% improvement…well, that’s better than zero! And all the ... Plus, due to the delivery mechanism (tablets, versus IV or food-derived) a percentage just passes through the body, which is why people taking Vit C or Multivitamins often pee in a very pretty shade of bright yellow! So actual absorption is less, thus toxicity is an even lesser worry - but ALWAYS check everything you take, even if ‘natural’, as certain health conditions and medications can be impacted by the most seemingly benign things. Regular old grapefruit actually interacts with a large range of medications, including many for mental health. However, for me, I haven’t had just a normal cold in soooo long! Also, not only can I not wear masks or shields due to health reasons, but over the entirety of Covid-19’s existence, the place I live has had only occasional short bursts with mask mandates due to the extremely low numbers we have had (until right now!!).
