I was excited for this game from the get-go with a healthy dose of skepticism that an open-world Pokemon game could be everything I loved about the previous games and more. My fears have been relieved as I've now completed the main story, worked on completing my Pokedex, and had numerous adventures and explorations, and STILL have come nowhere close to finishing everything the game has to offer. The replay value on this is INSANE, and I won't be stopping anytime soon.Controls take some getting used to, and the mental adjustment from how Pokemon games have been played for the past several decades, but once you get into the swing of things you'll be tossing out Pokeballs and catching powerful and rare Pokemon in no time. While not a perfect game (what game is), I'm ... Minor gripes include the loss of Pokemon abilities (which I'm hoping are added back in for future releases), bag space limitations (even though you can expand your capacity one painful, expensive slot at a time), and the fact that as a trainer my Pokemon never felt truly powerful until much later in the game. I'd be loathe to start battles with even the most basic of Pokemon for fear their speed and aggression would 1-2 hit KO my previous Pokemon I was trying to level. No matter how high I trained them, they always seemed weak comparatively to everything around them, even after boosting their EVs. Also, someone has GOT to teach these trainers how to properly battle as 3v1 battles are not fair on any level, especially when I've carefully been training my team for 1v1s. At least give me 3v3 or 2v3! Some of these trainers battle felt cheap, and I could only watch helplessly as my starter would sit through 3 rounds of abuse before finally being able to attack. The fights with Noble Pokemon are exciting and fresh, and even if you fail you don't lose progress (which made for much less hair being pulled out in frustration).Completing Pokedex entries now requires multiple catches, battles, and/or observations of wild Pokemon, and it makes catching and battling them exciting again! I was impressed with the variety and habits of each species, and side quests help focus on completing Dex entries or catching and giving away Pokemon to live with the citizens of Jubilife Village. I really enjoy running around town and slowly watching the people, places, and Pokemon come to life!Overall, this is a wonderful if not a bit flawed entry in the series, but it's been the most exciting thing to happen to the Pokemon gaming franchise since it was released. It's fresh and bold and visionary, and I can't wait for what's next as I'll undoubtedly log hundreds of hours into this title while I wait.

This game had some good ideas, but it also got rid of some of my favorite parts to the pokemon games. Some of the most notable things that they got rid of are that your pokemon can no longer hold items, you can not battle real people anymore, you have to use a link code to interact with other players, and the pokemon moves feel more dumbed down. For instance, Stealth rock just does damage instead of being a switch out damage pokemon move. The graphics are absolutely terrible and this is comping from someone who played no more heroes 3. I know graphics aren't everything and I have enjoyed a ton of games that don't look visually pleasing, such as no more heroes series, original links awakening, Rayman origins on the 3ds, etc, but legends Arceus just looks straight up ... The models look extremely unpolished and if you are in a dark cave or something, it kind of looks like the characters are broken. You can see white dots on the sides of the character kind of like pokemon did not finish creating the models or like they aren't actually there. However, this game does have some good ideas. I absolutely love the new frenzied pokemon trials and the riding on various pokemon mechanic, except for braviary because you cannot fly up or the hisuian ursaring because it looks disgusting and creepy, is good. I love the open world and the new ways to catch pokemon and the new battle styles but everything else just detracts from the experience. This game is a good beta test because it introduces new mechanics and tries to change up the pokemon formula. I am all for that but the game is extremely unpolished and feels really lazy and rushed. Some land pokemon literally just glitch in the air or get stuck on things. I'm glad that pokemon tried to do something more but I feel like monster hunter stories 2 just did it better. Hopefully, the pokemon company will put time and effort into their games instead of just starting a new idea and rushing it out onto the market instead of perfecting and polishing it. If there is one thing to take away from this review, is that the pokemon company needs to start delaying their games to spend more time on them. This game could have been so much better and it could have been everything that we, the pokemon fans, would have wanted if it was in development for 1 to 2 more years. So the real question is, should you buy it or not? I'm honestly not sure because I like the direction pokemon went with this game but the it feels incomplete, not content wise but development wise. I do and don't want to suport this game because it has good ideas that just weren't fleshed out enough but dumbing down the strategical nature of pokemon and the unpolished, lazy environments and models make me not want to support it. If you absolutely want it just for the sake of having a unique pokemon game I would say go for it but if you want a game thatfeels like the pokemon game that we should have gotten, has fully fledged ideas and mechanics, is more polished, and has had a lot more time to be developed, get Monster Hunter Stories 2.

I loved this game, and thought the graphics were great as well. It is a little predictable at times, and maybe even a little annoyingly so in some cases with the boss fights. For me the mechanics of the boss fights were fun, but a little hard and fast paced. The final "boss" is Arceus, who you can't fight or capture traditionally, and must defeat him using the dodge mechanics and abusing defense boosting items. It was so hard I almost cried. That said I did catch him and also got the Azure Flute which let's you catch him in Brilliant Diamond too. All that to say, the battle quick time mechanics are annoying at times, and the catching mechanic as well. They really needed an auto battle feature similar to Scarlet, since all the failed catches result in battles usually. That said the game was tremendous, and interesting to travel in time. I'd definitely own it to get the Hisuian exclusives also.
Legends Arceus is a decent step towards mixing things up in the Pokémon franchise, with the primary focus to collect the available monsters and research them to complete their Pokédex entries. I actually enjoyed this, but feel that for players not interested in maximising their dex, the game offers little else. The side missions are entertaining enough, with some nice nods to future Sinnoh (Diamond/Pearl), but they contain no real challenge as is typical with any game that contains them. The story falls a bit flat despite a promising start and is gated behind ranks with the Galaxy expedition, although this is less noticeable if you're exploring and building up the research for the various Pokémon as you go through each zone. The story falls a bit flat despite a promising start and is gated behind ranks with the Galaxy expedition, although this is less noticeable if you're exploring and building up the research for the various Pokémon as you go through each zone. Battles have largely been relegated to the side-lines to drive the story forward, and robbed of any strategical component, despite the addition of the two new battle styles. Frustratingly, opponents can send out more than one Pokémon (or in the wild you can be up against multiple) which often works against you, as you only have your lead. Presumably this has been done to showcase the new battle styles, but I often found my team would be outsped and demolished, even with level/stat/type resistances. Graphically, there are some nice areas - night time scenes are some of the most stunning in the game. Unfortunately, flying is where the game is ugliest, with textures loading in and jerking Pokémon models in the distance (these are less noticeable on foot). It wasn't a game breaker for me, as I prefer being on foot and gathering materials to craft, but it can break immersion. Areas with less Pokémon makes this game fall victim to the same 'emptiness' that plagues most open world games, although I did enjoy exploring and stumbling across rare Pokémon - there is an element of danger early on, especially as you learn how Pokémon behave and which will attack on sight, making exploring both risky and rewarding.TLDR: Legends Arceus is a breath of fresh air, but falls short of being a masterpiece. A familiar story, inconsistent graphics and a flawed battle system means that the only activity other than side missions, is maximising Pokédex entries which can be a bit repetitive. Interacting with Pokémon in the overworld is good fun and offers both risk/reward, but the world does feel empty in places.
After playing Legends for two months and more than 100 hours, I decided it was time to give this game its due for being amazing. This was the Pokémon spin-off I wanted to stay away from for a while until other reviews flew in, because Pokémon spin-offs aren't really my thing. In the past, I played spin-offs like Pokémon Snap for the N64, Gameboy's card game, Pokémon Puzzle League, and Pokémon Pinball. Then, I stopped playing those after the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games happened and wanted only the main entries. Now today, I wanted something more from Pokémon instead of what Brillant Diamond's outdated gameplay offered and Violet's annoying glitches. Now today, I wanted something more from Pokémon instead of what Brillant Diamond's outdated gameplay offered and Violet's annoying glitches. Especially because the whole thing about making it to the Pokémon League finally grew stale as well. In comes Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which starts you off with the story being about you entering the Hisui region through time and space. The game focuses on you, not just a professor who says, "Okay, pick a Pokémon, and now get going." Nope. You'll be introduced to quite a bit in the beginning, but only so you understand both gameplay and your purpose. It's not your typical Pokémon game. Yes, you catch Pokémon during encounters. Yes, you can also train them as usual, and the evolution system is better and more practical. Forget about needing to trade Graveler to get Golem; they have a link cable item for that. They all have unique behavior and don't immediately start a battle if you get close enough to them. Be warned, the territorial Pokémon will attack you without engaging in battle. Also, if you like boss battles, it has those too, which are also part of the story. The game actually does something Game Freak and Nintendo have only promoted since the first games. Which is, you've Gotta Catch Them All! However, you feel like you can catch them all, always on your own time, to enjoy much more. Also, I'm glad you don't need two versions just to get most of the Pokémon. Game Freak, please, no more of that two versions stuff. You can build the Pokédex, but differently, and I don't mean that in a bad way. You'll be able to build Pokédex entries for each Pokémon and their evolutions with unique research-related tasks, but they make it fun, not a full-time job. However, there's a rank system involving stars, like receiving badges. I managed to get up to five stars in the first section of the region alone. Yes, the first section is what I said, with LOTS of Pokémon and land to explore. The way this game sets up multiple locations to visit in Hisui is totally how I would have wanted Paldea to do it. With Paldea, you get one big map. With Hisui, on the other hand, you get a large map with multiple sections to choose from, and each one is huge, some bigger than others, but you don't get tired of exploring just one map this way. So in conclusion, so I don't spoil anything entirely, everything in this game met my highest expectations and more. Even the catching system is something I wanted Violet to keep instead of sending out Pokémon to instantly fight. Also, shiny's aren't quiet like in Violet. When you see a shiny Pokémon or even hear one nearby, you'll know just by the stars flying around them and the slight jingling sounds. So enjoy shining hunting and distortion events too, which are like Pokémon catching raids with rare and shiny Pokémon sometimes appearing. Check this out as a fan and as someone who loves open-world-ish games to have plenty to do. Great job, Pokémon Company!
For a Pokemon game this was pretty special, just being able to have a slight amount of freedom was enough for me. But putting aside my childhood nostolgia for the game, its issues start to apear.I'll start with the most obvious, the graphics are rather awful. Although this could be due to the Switch being a very weak console or the nature of the open world was simoly to much for the producers to handle, it doesent really matter. This game looks like it could have come out in 2011. Personally I never found this to be an issue, but im aware that others will.My primary complaint is in the games repetitive simplicity. In short this game boils down to catching Pokemon. To progress at all in the story (which is also depressing simplistic) you're forced to catch pokemon repeatedly to finish reaserch tasks. Which in itself is not a horrible idea until you realise that catching a pokemon is essentially hiding in a bush throwing a berry and then waiting until the pokemon turns around. Although there is a feature to essentially fight the pokemon the option is rather pointless as the in game time required to gather the resources outweigh the convience of hiding in a bush. As such as soon as a pokemon sees you your best action is to run away as nesrly all pokemon follow the same AI, 1 it sees you, 2 it gets mad at you, 3 it attacks you. This repettstiveness does begin to drag on as the obly truly new thing that happens as you progress is seeing new pokemon. Now, I do find this review a bit harsh. As Im grading the game as if it were trying to be some sort of masterpiece, when it simply is not. Pokemon legends Arceus is a simply game at worst and a relaxing adventure at best, but it certainly will not be winning any awards.TLDR: Pretty good, easy a little boring. But Pokemon!
I lost my original copy of Pokemon Legends Arceus in a move, but the game is excellent. The Pokedex is more interactive, there are lots of side quests to finish, character customization is much better than in Let's Go Eevee and Let's Go Pikachu, and like those games you are incentivized to do the thing in the game that sets it apart from other monster raising games: Catch more of the monsters. Most monster raising games besides Pokemon make getting more monsters difficult, but incredibly good. In most Pokemon games it's fairly trivial to catch five, ten, or even twenty of a particular monster, but generally you're better off breeding them. In Legends Arceus, catching many Pokemon is expected, and it makes the game so much more fun. I am eagerly awaiting Pokemon ... In most Pokemon games it's fairly trivial to catch five, ten, or even twenty of a particular monster, but generally you're better off breeding them. In Legends Arceus, catching many Pokemon is expected, and it makes the game so much more fun. I am eagerly awaiting Pokemon Legends Z-A and I want to finish this game before it comes out in 2025, so I'm picking up a new copy today. Wish me luck with the replay, I'm planning to 100% the game this time so I can get the Azure flute on my copy of Pokemon Shining Pearl.

this pokemon game is good, my fav type of pokemon game. i won't get into details since many other reviewers already talked about what this game is and as of this writing there are a ton of youtubers who reviewed this game. only thing i want to mention is that this game requires NO downloads, NO patches. NONE. not even a MB needs to be downloaded. for a game collector like myself, this makes this game very valuable. that is very impressive esp in this modern era of gaming where almost every game requires some sort of download. congrats to nintendo for putting all the game into the cart. for me, any game that requires more than 1GB of download isn't considered a physical.so yea if you love pokemon AND you love your games w/out any download required, buy this pokemon ...
