What says Texas barbecue better than an offset BBQ smoker? Absolutely nothing. With the true pill shape and offset firebox, the Oklahoma Joe Highland smoker brings old time cooking styles into the modern age. Adjustable dampers help to regulate heat and smoke whilst cooking and the professional grade thermometer embedded in the chamber lid means you can monitor what’s happening on the inside, without ever having to open the lid.

We ordered ours from Home Depot and had them deliver. There was no visible damage to the box. When we started to assemble we saw that the chimney vent had been damaged and was crooked. The lid area was severely dented making the smoker unusable. Since the box was not damaged this had to have happened before packing, yet your employees boxed it up anyway. Home Depot is taking care of the return. They have arranged for the driver to re box and haul out from my back yard which is a great help for a 73 year old man. They have been great about this and will be getting my hardware business from now on unlike Oklahoma Joes who will never see one penny from me.

Let me start by saying the customer service has been exceptional...and that's where the good stuff ends. Build quality on this smoker was atrocious. The lid was not rolled correctly and the hinges were improperly spaced, so the lid doesn't close. The side of the smoke chamber where the firebox mounts was welded in crooked, so the fire box sits at an angle. The exhaust fitting was also welded in crooked, so the exhaust stack doesn't sit straight either. The bolt-together construction also means there are alot of places for smoke to escape. Oklahoma Joe's smokers used to be quality, looks like outsourcing will cost them their reputation.

Absolutely love this smoker! We have used it a few times for grilling and smoking and I’m so happy with it! My only complaint is with Lowe’s and the crew or associates who assembled our smoker. Pieces were missing upon pick up and loose parts. We had to replace the missing screws/pins/etc because of a loose leg that would turn side to side and almost collapse and the handle was missing a pin that holds it in place. It was also bent and dented from reckless either in assembly or delivery(not sure and don’t want to point fingers) we did fix all these small issues and overall I’m very happy with the overall quality of the smoker itself!

Just purchased a week ago. I owned a Oklahoma Joes Bandera smoker. Absolutely loved it. I’m gonna try this offset this time. I wore the other one out. It appears to be built better than the other brands. Thicker steel and welded hinges. I like the sturdy wagon style wheels. I feel it should’ve come with sturdier fire grates in the firebox. I bought a fireplace grate to use so I don’t have the same issue as the other smoker. There is no flame arrester between the firebox and cooking area like the bandera had. I like the drain on the end to drain out water and grease. The display I looked at had a small bucket under the drain that I guess doesn’t come with it.There’s ample cooking space but I would have liked to see some insulation included. At least for the firebox. ... MoreJust purchased a week ago. I owned a Oklahoma Joes Bandera smoker. Absolutely loved it. I’m gonna try this offset this time. I wore the other one out. At least for the firebox. All in all I give it 4 stars. As I said this is my second Oklahoma Joe smoker. . So it says something if you buy it again. Lastly, I used my last one every weekend for over two years. I must have smoked over 1500 pounds of meat in that time. So, yeah I’d say it’s a good smoker.
I bought this grill in August of 2021 and unfortunately, while moving it today the welds holding one of the wheels broke. Over the year and half I owned this grill I had a reoccuring number of issues. It started with he name plate being broken on the grill lid being broken off and not capable of being replaced. Then over the next few months, I would begin to lose bolts that held the firebox to the cooking chamber. To make matters worse, the blots that hold the two halves of the firebox together began to rust and break, causing the two halves to separate.Besides these issues, I ahve cooked on this grill atleast twice a wekk, cooking several pork butts, racks of ribs, chickens, briskets, burgers and just about everything else you could think. Everything came out great. I want to love this grill but I can't recommend this grill to anyone. Their bnuild quality is sub-par. If you REALLY want an oklahoma joe, I know people who have older models before they were bought out and their quality seems to be significantly better.
I, read many reviews on this smoker before purchasing and sold on it. I am new to offset smoking. When I received the smoker it was dented, dusty and not put together. The temp gage was upside down, legs falling off, the smoke box was on the inside facing the legs. There would be no way to even clean out, wood/charcoal residue. I was even missing parts. There were left over screws thrown in the smoke chamber. The smoker looked like a demo unit that thrown in the back of the store and just shipped out. I, was given the run around by multiple agents. Then I was told they only deliver once a week in my area so wait another week. Not, once was anyone willing offer any true resolution. My view would be just to look elsewhere.
I’m writing this review to share my experience after receiving my unit on April 24th, 2022 - so others know what to expect, and can be comfortable with the purchase in advance. Out of the box the drum was bent in on the right side, not from shipping but the Manufacturing process. Unfortunately, the bend left the unit door (right) with about a half inch gap when closed ( mid way up). The unit also had various chips, although minor. As for the paint, which was written about a lot, I can attest to the lack of quality. Upon a slow burn-in (max 250 degrees) and cool down the whole right side started to rust which was expected and unlike my other unit ( same model) which is many years old, and still black as it was the first day. Now for the positive side… The Lowes team ... MoreI’m writing this review to share my experience after receiving my unit on April 24th, 2022 - so others know what to expect, and can be comfortable with the purchase in advance. Now for the positive side… The Lowes team was amazing. I explained my issue and they offered to deliver a new unit. Assuming the new one isn’t bent out of shape upon arrival. I will buy new sealant ( wasted $40 on this one), high heat paint, complete the burn in, and rework the unit. Why… because the unit holds heat well and does the job - with the sealant. Thank you Lowes for helping me out. To the OEM, sell it as a DIY paint project to avoid returns and send heat tape - which in my case didn’t work.
This thing is slick! Instructions were easy to follow to set up. I haven't seasoned it yet but can't wait to use it. I would actually rate this at 4.9 stars. The only two reasons: 1) one of the wing nuts attaching the OK joe's emblem on the chamber hood sheered off in the packaging. I found this out when I found a random wing nut in the chamber when unboxing and found where it went during assembly. A little frustrating for a brand new product but nothing that the lava lock I bought to seal just those types of areas wouldn't fix. And 2) it would be a major plus if it came with the grease catch bucket (found out this is sold separately).
So I moved to an offset with a competitor's model... which lasted 3 months. It fell apart. Keep in mind, a wheel form this thing weighs about as much. Now on to this one. Paint has melted off the bottom of the firebox pretty early on, but I know exactly how that happened. I let the fire get a little out of control while setting up for a smoke. MY fault for putting too much coal in it like that. Other than that no issues.Over the years I've added a few OK Joe's accessories that have paid off. Their charcoal basket (which now helps with aforementioned flare up), a 2nd thermometer to better monitor internal temps, the flex rack, and grommets for my temp probes.I use the smoker one average once a week. Pork shoulders, briskets, chicken, turkey breasts, bacon, ribs, sausage, stuffed jalapenos, roasted potatoes, mac and cheese, and even corn bread.Spring and fall deep cleaning / reasoning. An absolute rock of a smoker.Getting ready to replace the "outdoor microwave" aka gas grill with a Barrel and Hitch for the higher temp / extra capacity smoking needs.
To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I purchased this smoker this past spring, it arrived on time as promised but the smoker joe placard was broken off during shipping and customer service was horrible to deal with. I also purchased a cover for the grill to keep it out of the elements. Today I start a fire in the fire box and the little knob that's attached to the door that controls air flow busted off. For $500 dollars you think you would get a better product. I wouldn't recommend this product to any family member, any friend or any enemy....If this company was ever any good, they certainly aren't anymore. I do not endorse this product.
