Very powerful reel. Quite the workhorse. Won't breakdown on you. Very well made. Holds up great to saltwater. Can pull in some big fish.

This Komodo is twice the size of my other baitcaster reels. It still sits well in my hands and the power handle is great, sits on my 7'6 overhead rod. Almost 280.0m of 30lb braid. I can use a paternoster down to 50 or 60 metres and then I can change rigs and cast a pilly floater with ease. Lots of drag and very smooth. Waiting for a big fish to really give it a workout.

I have caught several tuna on this bad boy up to 35 lbs. The only issue you might have is line capacity on a party boat if you tie into a 70 pounder. But with 30 pounds of drag you can run 90 pound line. On a small boat you could chase the a bigger ones down with this real. Would get for anything under 40 pounds on a party boat as a rule. I'm sure you could go up to 80 on a small boat since you can chase it down. I would Love a komodo 571 with 35 lbs of drag.

Great Reel
1 November 2023

I purchased the left hand retrieve version because of some issues with my back. I hope it will be better to hold the rod in my right hand and reel with the left hand. I already had the right hand version which is why I ordered this one. They are excellent reels. I use it for my musky jerkbait rod.

Holy......

This reel is amazing! I have Shimano TranX 300 and Daiwa Lexa HD 300/400. I got the Komodo 471p and it has a MUCH better feel. It comes with a clicker, it casts better than both, feels SUPER smooth even though it has a SS pinion and Main gear. It has 30lbs of super smooth drag too! This reel is a monster, I'll be looking forward to purchasing more.

Rugged and reliable

I have used my 471SS's for fresh and saltwater casting lures to musky and snook, bottom fishing up to 200ft for snapper/blackfish/grouper, casting 8oz+lead and foot long live baits for flatheads, sting ray fishing, and have landed an 8ft nurse shark on the 471 to boot. This is a hardcore conventional reel, with an indestructible stainless steel drive train, in the body of a compact low profile.Any day of the week in any fishing location in most any fishing situation and these reels will be my go to.

Serious Drag!
29 September 2016

When the reel arrived I was stoked b/c I have a 364 PLX and love it. When I got into the box I was immediately disappointed to find the clicker button laying in the box and a rattling sound coming from the reel when I shook it.I took the reel apart and found that the retaining clip stuck to the inside of the reel, just had not been properly installed and was an easy fix, placed the clip firmly in lace and while I was in there I did some exploring. What I found was plenty of grease where needed and HUGE gears, with everything as it should be I put it back together.I filled the reel with 50# Seaguar Threadlock to within 1/8" of full and tested the drag with a Manley 2012 50# spring scale. Initial pull only generated a 8.5# of drag at pretty close to full drag and I ... MoreWhen the reel arrived I was stoked b/c I have a 364 PLX and love it. Initial pull only generated a 8.5# of drag at pretty close to full drag and I was concerned a bit, but not to worry this gets much better. I loosened the drag all the way and reset it to almost full drag and tried again, this time setting the drag I got 17#.I repeated the process, this time not setting quite as tight to start with, I had 15# and slowly worked up to full drag @ 28.5 # wow! Loosened all the way and reset to max drag....30.5#. I repeated this at least 1/2 dozen times and always got from 28.5 to 31.5 pounds of drag. Oh, and it is silky smooth to boot.Only time will tell how this is going to hold up. I don't really expect to be using anywhere near this kind of drag using this reel as I intend, casting swim baits and poppers, but it is nice to know it is there if I need to lock down on a Cubera or Rooster.

Tuna and yellowtail
17 October 2018

I have this beast paired with a blue water tallus xh and I destroyed tuna, skipjack, yellowtail and dorado this weekend. Nothing over 20 lbs but this thing just kept taking the abuse on a wide open bite off old glory in San Diego. I caught over 20 fish and bounced each one ....I really put this rod and reel to the test and it ate it like candy. I was using 30 lb suffix braid and 30 lb leader. If I had to guess this will handle a yellowfin to 35 to 40 lbs if you have the room to fight it on a small boat. On a party boat you need to over gear so you don’t lose fish. I did foul hook a yellowfin which pushed this rod reel hard and it took me 15 min to land. This gets an A plus for your small outfit to 35 lb fish! The equipment is impressive!

Very Powerful Bait caster for heavy saltwater species!
18 September 2019

I got 471P.It's gigantic hahaBut compare to LEXA 400 size, it's somewhat manageable in your palm.If you have small hand don't care about the spool cap, get the 300 size instead.Got so much drag power!!!I use it for throwing irons to catch yellowtail, YFT, and etc.Love it

great fishing reel
22 November 2017

Its a great fishing reel. It has a clicker you can set on and off for baiting and trolling. Very easy to use for first time users of baitcasters. However i think what makes it a lot easier to use is the reel is a great fishing reel but it doesnt cast as good as some of the others reels that are around the same budget but again this is a great all over fishing reel compared to the others in its class. it will cast far enough for my fishing requirements 200g lures 70yard. 120g lures 100-120 yards on a greys swimbait 2 rod.
