Absolutely loving my new lens

I am loving this lens on my OM-1. I've taken some shots that I'm really pleased with. Not the lightest but also not that heavy once you get used to it. It's a great compromise if you cannot justify the more expensive 150-400 alternative and also pleased it fits my MC-20. Lots more great pics to come :-)

I have worked at getting hummingbird photos for some time with a medium sized telephoto lens. I just could never get close enough without scaring them off. After a lot of online searching and learning about bird photography, I became aware of this 150-600 lens for my Olympus EM5 camera. It was really more than I wanted to spend, but it was really the only way to succeed in what I wanted to do. Now that I have the lens, I am truly amazed at the quality of photos I am getting with it. I am no longer worried about the cost since this lens truly delivers!

Image quality, AF and IS are, on balance, very good. Took one star off for the size and weight. I would definitely recommend getting the Leofoto foot with QD - makes carrying the lens so much easier. I didn't have anything large enough to carry this in and nothing was supplied, so I got the Sigma case which isn't fancy but will hold the lens with camera attached if you remove the foam in the lid. No serious issues and if you need the reach, this is likely going to be the only game in town. Uploaded a couple of sample shots.

Disappointed with the OM Zuiko 150-600mm f5-6.3 IS
1 June 2024

I've been shooting airshows for more than ten years with my Olympus bodied lenses and have been very satisfied with my results until now. I've used the "consumer" 75-300 II with good results and then the 100-400mm (rented by Lensrentals) with excellent results. I decided to try out the 150-600mm to see if the Sync IS and longer reach would fare better results than the 100-400 but was very disappointed. Barring the heavy heat shimmer coming off the beach at the Bethpage Airshow at Jones Beach, Long Island (the 10 knot surface wind was blowing the heat shimmer right into my face), I was only able to achieve, maybe, 10-20 "keeper" shots out of the 4000+ I shot. Having to hold and maneuver this large, heavy lens for the 5+ hour airshow coupled with some obvious glaring ... MoreI've been shooting airshows for more than ten years with my Olympus bodied lenses and have been very satisfied with my results until now. Having to hold and maneuver this large, heavy lens for the 5+ hour airshow coupled with some obvious glaring resulted in disappointing results. I know that alot of people would say a monopod could be helpful but I just can't see a monopod for airshows. Too much overhead activity going on. And, to my surprise, I really didn't need the longer 200mm. Will go back to the 100-400mm lens for the next airshow.

Great piece of kit!

Great lens! Very flexible! Excellent zoom range - 150-600mm (300-1200mm 35mm equivalent! Superb optical quality! Exceptional close focus! If you're a wildlife photographer using the Olympus/OM System cameras it's really an essential piece of kit!!!!!

I'm glad I rented as I did not love the OM 150-600mm which helped me make a purchasing decision.
30 March 2024

While I may rent this again in the future for a second look, I simply did not like this lens enough to carry it around. It is very heavy for my MFT camera and I found my shoulder muscles were strained in trying to hold it steady when zoomed out for extended photo sessions. While a tripod or monopod could solve the issue of holding it steady when zoomed out, the second problem is I did not love the pictures I ended up with. In regards to buying one, at this time I think it is overpriced. Many days were overcast and I had also rented the Panasonic Leica 200mm and fell in love with it. Even with the teleconverter on a dark day, the images I got were very nice. I ended up buying the 200mm I rented and am very happy with that decision.

Not quite M4/3 Experience
14 July 2024

Chunky lens but hand holdable for short periods. Does not balance at all on Modern bodies. I/S switch is in a bad place that I found would turn itself off hanging from the strap. Goes against what M4/3 is supposed to be. If this is indeed a modified Sigma Sport 150-600mm lens, had the same complaints on full frame DSLR's. Image quality is amazing if you remember to flick back on the I/S. 300mm equiv is really too long on the short end. The 150-400mm T/C is a far better lens and fits better with what an M4/3 system is supposed to be about but this is 1/3 the price. Recommend as long as you understand the limitations and can deal with the weight and balance.

OM systems 150 - 600
3 March 2024

I bought this for the extra reach over my Oly 100-400 lens. The 159-600 photo quality compares very favourable with that lens. Using the 1.4 and 2.0 teleconverters work with it too! It's definitely heavier than any other m43 lens, but not beyond my old hands and arms ability to shoot hand held!

Solid but heavy, with great reach
11 March 2024

A rugged and well built lens. It's size is obviously down the the extensive range, but is slightly as odds with the more compact m4/3 range. Having said that, the reach is phenomenal. I can't wait to try it out in earnest but early shots have been encouraging.

fantastic lens!
14 March 2024

got the150-600 OM system lens and mounted it on camera. Bad weather in Colorado saw no birds or animals to photo on first outing. but next days saw much better activity. The Image Stabilization on this lens is worth the purchase price!! Super sharp photos and the Olympus OM 1 (original) worked in concert to make the shots and outing great. I use the Cotton Carrier vest and the unit was more stable than the other 100-400 lens when going on rough terrain. Need more shots to perfect the lens/camera useage but so far this has been a fantastic purchase and I look forward to learning and using it more. Great product and can't say enough good about the focal range and smooth operation. The L/T/O button to lock lens or make it harder to turn stopped the lens creep while on ... Moregot the150-600 OM system lens and mounted it on camera.
