Get weird with the cushioned On Cloudmonster. The On Cloudmonster features the biggest Clouds that On Running has produced. The result? Super soft landings with maximum rebound for a smooth ride and supreme energy return. On pairs these CloudTecreg elements with their explosive Speedboardreg, springy Heliontrade superfoam and a radical rocker shape to build a shoe that you will get excited to lace up time and time again. The midsolersquos double layer of Heliontrade superfoam is durable, lightweight and temperature resistant, so you can get the most out of your runs. The Speedboardreg gives you snappy take-offs, while the forefoot rocker shape will keep you rolling along during your run. On engineered the fit to give you the ultimate in comfort with a soft sock-liner and upper that is made with recycled materials. Our testers loved how the upper wraps around your foot in our On Cloudmonster Review. The Cloudmonster is different, that much is obvious. It may be playful, but it's definitely serious about performance. Plus, runners are a little weird anyway.

That said, there are a couple of things that you will want to know before buying them.1) They run about a half size small, so make sure to try them on and get a good feeling for them.2) Their heel incline is higher than most shoes and will work your mid-calves a little differently, so be prepared to “feel it”.3) They are a little “squishy” and provide a feeling of a little more horizontal movement than more stiff runners. In my case, the pros have caused me to wear the Cloudmonsters almost non-stop.

Comfortable while they lasted.

Perhaps if On used thicker, more resilient material for their outsoles, their shoes would last a little longer and rack up more miles before they fail, as all running shoes do.In summary, the On Cloudmonster are stylish and comfortable running shoes that look good, feel good and are bound to make many runners go the extra mile. Unfortunately, for the heavier runners among us, they may not hold up for as much as you'd expect, given their price tag.††For lighter weight runners, your mileage may vary.

Disappointed

I did not expect this from Bloomingdales. Received my shoes finally after waiting for a long time dirty, worn, used, creased and muddy. It was so nasty that I had to put gloves on to take a picture just to have proof when I return them. It looks like someone wore the shoes for a month and went on many muddy hikes and did a crappy job cleaning it and returned it. I mean a blind person could have seen it. the bottom is completely flat. Thanks Bloomingdales. Im a nurse and my feet have been hurting after 12 hour shifts and was hoping to have my shoes already.

Finally a more cushioned road shoe from On.

I'd waited to get some miles under my belt with this show before attempting a review. For trails I've been using Cloudultra as I like On's shoes off trail as they're a little more firm and therefore better feedback. When it came to the road this firmness translated to harshness for myself. Id been using Hoka but never really been the best shoe for me. I was very excited to read the reviews that this shoe was soft, especially with the weather turning and more road than trail work ahead.Great fit and feel straight from the box and much softer ride for my feet compared to On's other road shoes. The profile is noticeably higher than the road shoes but my foot feels secure, no bouncing or twisting going on. I'd read reviews that people had to change their running style in these but no issues thus far from myself. The outsole doesn't have those more traditional grooves that are characteristic of On, which thus far means less stones picked up, noting ore annoying to your cadence than the click click of stones picked up by that older outer sole.A light shoe for the degree of cushioning and a very secure toe box.So a thorough 5 star from myself. Apologies as I can't comment on how long they'll last but they seem to be of the same high quality I've found with On over the years.

I own multiple pairs!
21 July 2022

I'm a big fan of On Cloud, so I was a little skeptical about the On CloudMonster as their shoes, at least the ones that I run in, tend to be more on the minimal side. Enough said, I love the On CloudMonsters. They provide cushion, yet still provide feedback on your run, good spring and everything else you have come to love about On shoes. And while a fully cushioned shoe, they do not feel heavy. An I usually run in the On CloudFlow and the On Cloud EchoBoom. If you want cushioning but that same On Cloud feel, get these, your feet will thank you. FYI, I have been a long time user of On Clouds and this is my first ever review.

I will be buying this again when this pair wear out
23 August 2022

This is the second pair of Cloudmonster's I've purchased / worn. I put a little over 250 miles on my first pair and I was ready to get a new set.I have about 55 miles on these shoes so far. I have tried a wide range of shoes given my history of injuries from my years and years of athletic activities. For example, I've run in Nike Pegasus, EpicReact, Infinity React; Saucony; Hoka; Brooks Ghost; and several other shoes in hopes of finding a shoe that offered support, some spring, and an ability to put in some longer (8-12 miles) smooth runs. These shoes fit the bill for me and the comparison to the other shoes I've tried is not even close. These shoes are springy and supportive and have handled short (3-4 miles) to long (8-12 miles) runs. These shoes are springy and supportive and have handled short (3-4 miles) to long (8-12 miles) runs. I bought these a half size up from what I normally wear. This was helpful as my feet tend to swell just a bit when running longer miles. I've had no issues with blisters or other challenges I've had with narrower shoes (Nike). The toe box is nice and wide, the traction is good, and the shoes handle pavement and loose gravel nicely. Occasionally when running in larger loose rock I have gotten a rock stuck in the sole of the shoe, but those are rare instances and easy to resolve. I'm not sure how good these would be for people looking to really speed up. They do feel a little heavy, but not in an overly burdensome way. With that said, for those looking for an Uber-light race shoe in hopes of breaking some world record this is probably not the shoe for you ... however, you probably already knew that! The first pair of Cloudmonster's I purchased were white. I liked those but they did get dirty pretty easily. These avoid that problem. The purple is ok, probably not my first choice. I did notice they came out with an all-black option after I bought these and I probably would have gone with those to be honest if they were available at the time of my purchase.I plan on purchasing these shoes again, I highly recommend them!

Full disclosure: a member of my family works for On Running.I've been running in Hoka shoes (mostly Bondis and Cliftons) for 12 years. As a Clydesdale runner, I definitely tend toward maxium cushioning shoes. When the time came for me to retire my Clifton 7s, a family member recommended the Cloudmonster to me. Truth be told, I have always thought of On as more of a "lifestyle" shoe company. (Which is slightly ironic, because they have one of the top pro track teams in the world.) But I hoped to be swayed by this shoe recommendation.I paid the (very high) full retail price at my local retailer (not REI in this case) for this shoe in the "Undyed-White" colorway (which looks amazing, I might add, but is sadly not available at REI). The moment I slipped it on -- OH THE COMFORT! I hadn't gotten this excited about the comfort of a sneaker since the Nike Air Huaraches from the mid-90s. On top of that, despite my wide, high-volume feet, regular sizing worked out for me in both my actual size as well as my "half-size up" size. My hopes were high. But that's where the excitement ends. I did 3 5k runs in these, and my reaction each time was the same: they feel dead. I felt like I was doing extra work on each stride -- surprising, considering how light they are. Now, I'm not one to get too hung up on "energy return" and similar buzzwords, but I just never felt like these shoes were really helping to propel me forward, and as each run went on, the deadness progressively killed my motivation. So, despite really liking the comfort and aesthetics of this shoe, I returned them after a week, and went back to Clifton 9s. They may not look as good as the Cloudmonsters, but for my intended use as a daily running shoe, the Hokas continue to perform reliably for me.

Right out of the box and laced up for a marathon
21 April 2022

Yes, I threw out the rulebook on this ON model. The truth is after a 5K shakeout of this shoe during a demo run I knew it would be a go to shoe for a marathon the following week. The shoe performed up to the expectations. I had less hip fatigue, no issue adjusting to the extra stack height, and the energy return I wanted after mile 18 was present. Big game changer. I run in a 4mm drop road shoe normally and this plush bed did not require much adjustment. On seems to have reimagined the performance of Helion since this shoe did not feel rigid I felt like I was bounding w/o needing to change my stride. I ran downhills with ease and the outsole was nimble and felt secure. No rain or slickness so I cant speak to that condition yet. The upper was fine, breathable etc. I normally have a lot of perspiration and my shoes can get "swampy" but that was not the case. But because the outside temp.s were in the 60's it factored in to this too. When in gets humid and in the 80's that will be the real test of the upper. My heel was rock solid no fit issues in the width or instep. Definitely a shoe for runs in the 3 hour plus range for me. I will always rotate through different shoes (Newton BOCO AT, Newton Fate, Hoka Mafate, Atreyu) and now add this to the mix. I prefer feel over float but this On is on the top of my list because right out of the gate my reaction was "Wow, this is a comfortable shoe."

They Work
11 May 2023

This is the best ON shoe in a long time. Great roll through your gait, good cushioning, very stable and has a good range for training. I take these on my long easy runs, but, I also use them on my tempo runs. These shoes have a good range from 8 min mile to 6 min mile. I would go to your regular size on these. With the limited upper use a runner's knot for good lock down. I also use thicker socks as the tongue is very minimal. But, I rotate 3 pair and have had one pair last to 500mi. It seems they changed the heel cup a bit, the older version was a bit lower on the sides and seemed more cushioned, the newer models rub me a bit on my bony ankles. But, they are my go to shoes up to 18 mi. I'm a midfoot striker running about 38 miles a week currently.
