The On Cloudmonster is a neutral and all-round running shoe from On aimed at maximum cushioning and comfort for every workout. Whether you're planning a long run, a short recovery run or just your daily training run, the On Cloudmonster can always attract you. The On Cloudmonster is the superlative in terms of cushioning compared to the On Cloudflyer and the On Cloudstratus. This latest model from On has Max CloudTec cushioning, these are the largest CloudTec elements ever. This cushioning gives a soft landing and a lot of energy return. The Cloud elements, the "clouds" that you see in the sole, work together to distribute the pressure that arises during the impact of the landing over the entire foot. The CloudTec technology in the Cloudmonster works together with Helion superfoam and a custom Speedboard, which is a plastic plate, that provides stability and an explosive push-off to the forefoot. This push-off to the forefoot is also stimulated by the round shape of the sole. The upper of the On Cloudmonster is soft and pleasant. The thin shoe lip fits comfortably around the foot. The On Cloudmonster is made from more than 30% recycled materials. For example, the insole and the upper are made of recycled polyester.

I pulled, trimmed and replaced the original with the Clifton sockliner and it made a notable difference on step in feel.I have a few other pair of On shoes that I wear strictly wear just for casual, but the cloud monster if finally the first On product that I can actually run in. I strongly recommend this product and look forward to some productive miles to come.

I am not one to write reviews, but I yielded to the temptation. Just in case you want a comfortable run you will want to try these cloudmonsters, they are exceptionally good. I have used them for four weeks now and feet and my knees have been thankful for taking a leap of faith to shift from Brooks Adrenaline 22! I would recommend them to any seasoned long distance runner who wants a new adventure. I cannot comment on their longevity, given that I have not had the luxury of time, and this shoe edition is new anyway.

These super-buoyant runners are fantastic for long duration walks or runs. I have found myself not wanting to take them off. That said, there are a couple of things that you will want to know before buying them.1) They run about a half size small, so make sure to try them on and get a good feeling for them.2) Their heel incline is higher than most shoes and will work your mid-calves a little differently, so be prepared to “feel it”.3) They are a little “squishy” and provide a feeling of a little more horizontal movement than more stiff runners. In my case, the pros have caused me to wear the Cloudmonsters almost non-stop.

Comfortable but not durable.
19 March 2023

Bought this almost a year and shoes were really comfortable right out the box. upper is made of really good materials. Shoe does gives you the bounce on the runs. For the bad side but i a little disappointed with the durability of these. I run + walk in these those shoes and do ~ 10 miles a week, so i have done around 400+ miles in these shoes and i can see good amount of wear on the outer sole. I was expecting more from a $180 shoes. my lastshoe was brooks gts which lasted little longer these.

Comfortable while they lasted.

I've been running in my On Cloudmonster shoes for over three months and have genuinely enjoyed racking up my daily miles in them. As you would expect by how they look, they are plush and extremely comfortable to run in. However, with an average of 20 miles of road/sidewalk running per week, I've worn this pair of shoes beyond proper functionality and support. However, one possible design oversight on many On running shoes is the use of relatively thin rubber outsoles (especially compared to equivalent running shoes from Adidas and Hoka). Perhaps if On used thicker, more resilient material for their outsoles, their shoes would last a little longer and rack up more miles before they fail, as all running shoes do.In summary, the On Cloudmonster are stylish and comfortable running shoes that look good, feel good and are bound to make many runners go the extra mile. Unfortunately, for the heavier runners among us, they may not hold up for as much as you'd expect, given their price tag.††For lighter weight runners, your mileage may vary.

Excellent shoe but with a limited lifespan
8 November 2022

Overall, this is a great shoe. It has a ton of cushion but is also very lightweight. It's a versatile shoe that can be used for slower long runs or faster tempo runs. It can be a good option for the marathon distance if you don't want to pay exorbitant "super shoe" prices. My only complaint is the shoe loses its plush, cushioned feel at about 200 miles. I'm at 235 miles now, and the shoes are almost done. Given the premium price, I wish they lasted longer.

Great Shoe
17 February 2023

I am a high school XC and track runner and I have fallen in love with these shoes. I feel comfortable using them for anything from easy runs, to tempos and even track workouts. They are my go-to long run shoe as well. The only small complaint; they wear out quickly. Nothing too absurd, just slightly higher than average breakdown of the foam.In sum; On hit this one out of the park.

It's Dead, Jim.

Full disclosure: a member of my family works for On Running.I've been running in Hoka shoes (mostly Bondis and Cliftons) for 12 years. As a Clydesdale runner, I definitely tend toward maxium cushioning shoes. When the time came for me to retire my Clifton 7s, a family member recommended the Cloudmonster to me. Truth be told, I have always thought of On as more of a "lifestyle" shoe company. (Which is slightly ironic, because they have one of the top pro track teams in the world.) But I hoped to be swayed by this shoe recommendation.I paid the (very high) full retail price at my local retailer (not REI in this case) for this shoe in the "Undyed-White" colorway (which looks amazing, I might add, but is sadly not available at REI). The moment I slipped it on -- OH THE COMFORT! I hadn't gotten this excited about the comfort of a sneaker since the Nike Air Huaraches from the mid-90s. On top of that, despite my wide, high-volume feet, regular sizing worked out for me in both my actual size as well as my "half-size up" size. My hopes were high. But that's where the excitement ends. I did 3 5k runs in these, and my reaction each time was the same: they feel dead. I felt like I was doing extra work on each stride -- surprising, considering how light they are. Now, I'm not one to get too hung up on "energy return" and similar buzzwords, but I just never felt like these shoes were really helping to propel me forward, and as each run went on, the deadness progressively killed my motivation. So, despite really liking the comfort and aesthetics of this shoe, I returned them after a week, and went back to Clifton 9s. They may not look as good as the Cloudmonsters, but for my intended use as a daily running shoe, the Hokas continue to perform reliably for me.

Out of the box comfort, but no durability
18 February 2023

I loved these shoes out of the box and my first few runs. There is a nice bounce to them that feels like they are propelling you forward. The massive downside is durability. I have 117 miles on my pair and the bottom of the soles have been wiped out and that spring is gone. Back to Brooks Adrenaline for me where I got about 350-400 miles out of a pair. This is also while adding these into the rotation. Very disappointed in the price vs staying power of these.

Right out of the box and laced up for a marathon

Yes, I threw out the rulebook on this ON model. The truth is after a 5K shakeout of this shoe during a demo run I knew it would be a go to shoe for a marathon the following week. The shoe performed up to the expectations. I had less hip fatigue, no issue adjusting to the extra stack height, and the energy return I wanted after mile 18 was present. Big game changer. I run in a 4mm drop road shoe normally and this plush bed did not require much adjustment. On seems to have reimagined the performance of Helion since this shoe did not feel rigid I felt like I was bounding w/o needing to change my stride. I ran downhills with ease and the outsole was nimble and felt secure. No rain or slickness so I cant speak to that condition yet. But because the outside temp.s were in the 60's it factored in to this too. When in gets humid and in the 80's that will be the real test of the upper. My heel was rock solid no fit issues in the width or instep. Definitely a shoe for runs in the 3 hour plus range for me. I will always rotate through different shoes (Newton BOCO AT, Newton Fate, Hoka Mafate, Atreyu) and now add this to the mix. I prefer feel over float but this On is on the top of my list because right out of the gate my reaction was "Wow, this is a comfortable shoe."
