The one thing about the design is the angular supports in the sole have me wondering if it will last as long as other running shoes.Performance - Overall very good. Naturally a pavement/street shoe first, but also performed exceptionally well on hardback dirt/gravel. Off pavement, I noticed the tread was solid, and the shoe was very stable due to the lateral geometry of the sole (no wobble transferred to the ankle etc). The only negative I experienced was when running on steep declines, the shoe seemed to have a very hard strike when landing (compared to the other shoes I run in.) Hard enough that it was uncomfortable and I found myself making modifications to my running/form when in such a situation. What I Love- Laces, fit, weight.Concerns- longevity/miles before replacing. Steep declines.Overall - great shoe for pavement first running/fitness.

Comfortable but the squeaking is annoying!!!

I really wanted to like these shoes. They are comfortable and light, with just the right amount of cushioning, but they squeak with every step and it gets quite annoying. This happen regardless of the surface. You can forget trying to sneak up on someone !!! :-) I was hoping that it would eventually stop squeaking, but if anything, it has gotten worse.I frequently wear then at work and it’s a little embarrassing because everyone turns to look at me as I walk down the hallways.I will unfortunately have to stop wearing them.

The cloudsurfer name really says it all... these shoes feel almost like there's nothing there. Almost. I'll come back to that. The cushiony sole is really a wonder, and I say that completely seriously and without a hint of sarcasm. Seriously. Having worn running shoes for decades, my expectations for new shoes are, admittedly, quite low. I never go into the shoe-wearing experience with anything other than grim acceptance of the reality that I must wear shoes, so hopefully they can look decent and feel okay too. These shoes do more than that. Style-wise, they are a bit loud for my normal taste, but I actually didn't hate that aspect after wearing them. Comfort-wise, they are really impressive. It is not often that you start wearing shoes and find that you are smiling because the simple act of walking around just feels, different. The rounded sole rolls forward and almost springs you into your next step, while the unbelievably soft cushion just feels nice. Really nice. The one gripe I have is that the front of the shoe around the widest part of my foot feels a bit tight. I don't normally wear wide shoes, but I think I would need to in this brand or to go up another half or whole size as I just had a bit too much pressure. Admittedly, the pinching feeling fades while I am wearing them, so it is not an absolute deal-breaker, just a word of warning if buying online (and chances are that you are since you are reading reviews online) that you might want to go up a bit in size.I've now worn these for walks around the neighborhood, a bit of running, and some light hiking on a paved trail and I have found them really wonderful for all of the above.Overall, I really enjoy wearing these shoes and would recommend them if you are looking for really supportive and cushiony shoes.

Good athletic shoe - running, not so much
18 July 2023

Very plush feel, comfortable upper. I just am not convinced that these are for running. In all fairness, I definitely prefer a max cushion shoe, but even something like the nike pegasus offers a better lockdown and ride. I have been eager to try On shoes, and hearing all the positive reviews on the cloudsurfer made me try. What I found is that this brand seems to be years behind the mainstream brands. I will stick with my new balance, hokas and sauconys. They seem to run about a half size big. I wear 11 in everything and the 11 in these felt sloppy. My foot was falling over the edge of the shoe. I will keep it as a casual athletic shoe for the gym.

Meh
2 May 2023

Great fitting upper. Good lockdown and plush heel cup. In my opinion, just too dang squishy. I'm a midfoot striker until I get tired and this is where this shoe brings down the ups. It does not have any stability when you start getting tired or going into that lazy stride and causing that heel to drop. This shoe killed me after about 8 miles in. I think for an everyday walker or go to work shoe, it's ok. But, since it lost it's speedboard plate, it just does not have the same stability level throughout your gait. I love the CloudMonster...this new Cloudsurfer would benefit from bringing back that plastic plate.

Shoe runs small so size up by a half-size.
13 July 2023

The inside of this shoe is about 3/8 of an inch shorter than the outer tip of the shoe. So if you're trying to size it appropriately I would recommend moving up a half size. If you do the trick whereby you lift up your big toe to see where it's poking through the upper part of the shoe, you'll mess up the sizing. I think there is an inner "sock" liner inside the shoe (maybe that's how they get it to be so light) but it's misleading because the outer dimensions are different than the inner dimensions. I was an 11 in both of my previous pairs of On Running shoes, but I needed an 11.5 in this model. Beware. The shoe is very comfortable, but it does tend to squeak at times. Not sure if there is a way to ameliorate that defect.

Squeak
30 August 2023

I bought a pair of black 3md10420485. Size 9.5 US. They are very comfortable, however they squeak. Nothing I have done has helped. I have added powder between the insole and the shoe. I have tried many different kinds of sock materials. They still squeak. In addition, I do not like the design of the bottom of the shoe. The small holes on the sole act as suction cups, and make a very loud and annoying sound when walking on flat smooth surfaces. I tried to get past it, but could not. I put these on the shelf, and went back to HOKA Bondi 8. I did enjoy the comfort, but the noise is too much.

There Was An Attempt

These are my fourth pair of shoes from On and they are the most comfortable yet. I support the move away from the plastic speedboard and I appreciate how fresh my feet feel after a session in these vs. my previous On favorite, Cloudflyer. HOWEVER: As others are sharing, this shoe is likely to develop and absurd squeak that gets worse, not better with wear.I am 70 miles in with these and they squeak with literally every foot strike like clown shoes. This is not an issue of the outsole interacting with the running surface. It's actually coming from their latest attempt at the proprietary "clouds" with this shoe. Wow! These Cloudsurfer's Work for Me

Wow! These On Cloudsurfer's are incredibly comfortable.I currently have a pair of Hoka Bondi's, two different Salomon RA Sonic Max's, Nike Pegasus, and two other walking shoes I have in regular rotation that are all comfortable; I wouldn't have bought them and kept them if they were not.I've tried on three or four other On's over the past year because several friends love them and have multiple pairs, but not one worked for my feet even for the one minute test. These Cloudsurfer's, however, work wonderfully for my feet. most comfortable shoe/LOUDEST shoe
10 August 2023

Amazingly comfortable. Probably the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever owned. BUT the SQUEEK is unbearably embarrassing. I haven’t even run in them yet, I wear them as my daily shoe. I was thinking the squeak would go away but it’s gotten worse. How could on running not notice this in testing? They should recall all of them. I know that sounds dramatic but you spend over $150 on a shoe and now I sound like a clown while I walk. Will probably never buy on running shoes again. If they could just get rid of the sound it would be perfect. I got these for my back to teaching this school year shoe and my kids would just make fun of me lol.
