I bought these shoes 6 months ago. At first they started out great. Reasonably comfortable shoe I would want to wear most days.Quickly into the cons. If the rubber of the sole got any water on it, there would be a near unbearable squeak to them. Now the Big downside. The heal rubber has completely come off the shoe on both shoes. They are basically unusable now.Overall despite their comfort, I completely regret buying these shoes based on the lack of longevity/quality in the construction.

Really liked these shoes. They were comfortable, stylish and easy to slip on and off with the speed lace system. Durability is lacking. Within 3 months of wearing around the house and running errands the tread wear was noticeable. Within 6 months the sides of the mesh are tearing where it meets the sole on both shoes. Rest of the shoes looks in new condition except for these flaws. For a shoes that wasn’t used for exercise, long walks, running, yard work they wore down very fast. My last pair of Adidas gym shoes lasted almost 2 years under the same function and for the price of the On Cloud 5’s I would have expected more than a few months out of them.

My husband loves these shoes. He is a full-time food delivery driver and needed waterproof shoes that were both comfortable to wear all day, yet good for rainy weather conditions for various terrain (sidewalk pavement, slippery lawn pavers, grass, dirt/mud, asphalt, etc.). He says the grip is great and they are comfortable. His shoe size is 9.5 Wide, and after trying on both the 9.5 and the 10, chose the 10 for maximum comfort. He says these shoes are very similar to the Cloud 5 non-waterproof shoes (which he also loves), with the only difference being the fabric on the exterior of the shoe. Because of this, the fit is a little less flexible than the Cloud 5 non-waterproof shoe, which is why he went with the 10.

Having owned a pair of Cloudflyer's for about a year, I had high expectations for this more casual wear shoe. It wasn't to be.First off, throw both sets of shoelaces in the trash. Depending upon multiple factors (time of day, thickness of socks, etc.) the elastic laces (speed-laces) were either too loose or too tight, but rarely just right. If you trim those laces, the ends unravel and after a few days are a hot mess. The more conventional laces do NOT stay tied and I found myself constantly having to tie them over and over and over again throughout the day. Double knotting would solve, but who wants the hassle on what should be a casual wear shoe.Probably, due to the minimal cushioning in the tongue, I often find that shoes are uncomfortably tight until I'm ... MoreHaving owned a pair of Cloudflyer's for about a year, I had high expectations for this more casual wear shoe. Double knotting would solve, but who wants the hassle on what should be a casual wear shoe.Probably, due to the minimal cushioning in the tongue, I often find that shoes are uncomfortably tight until I'm able to adjust lace tensioning through the length of the shoe.Perhaps my very positive experience with an earlier pair of ON shoes jaded my expectations for this less expensive casual cousin, but I'll relegate this Cloud 5 to an occasional use shoe and will not purchase this model iteration again. As many positive online REI reviews of this same model attest - your mileage may vary.On a positive note, they look great, are very lightweight and other than pebble retention in the wide tread, I remain a fan of ON's CloudTec cushioning.
The shoes aren't too bad, but I don't get to have the pleasure of wearing them... Due to scar tissue and related nerve issues, I can't wear these as they do rub against the Achilles tendon. My daughter, however... She adores her new shoes, courtesy of mom's discomfort. I did order in men's sizes, they fit our in-between width better. For the short period I was able to wear this pair, they were very comfortable. My daughter has yet to take them off.Shipping was fast. Too be honest, I am more accustomed to big box delivery and their delays...Once I find a pair that appears to have a lower back to accommodate my issues, I will absolutely order another pair from this store, and quite likely other things as well!
I read many reviews before purchasing and was still willing to give On a try. The main complaint I saw was squeaking when wet. Well......not quite true, These squeak ALL the time. I tried on in my hotel room and walked on the carpet and then the laminate floors. Squeak city. So disappointing for such a high priced shoe. The only shoe that squeaks as much to my knowledge are Nike Vapormax - also over-priced. I returned these the very next day, less than 24 hours. I regret not making a video to post here.
This is my second pair of On Clouds. I love that it is lightweight and breathable. I can wear these shoes all day and be as comfortable at midnight as I am when just starting the day. ( Think day at Disneyland) The downside is that these shoes run at least a size smaller and narrower than usual. I recommend always trying on in-store as different styles fit differently. If ordering online order several sizes to ensure you get the right size. I'm not fond that because they run small, I must purchase a men's shoe to get a proper fit. I typically am a women's size 11M with no issue. In an On cloud, I have to purchase a men's 9.5M for a proper fit. I remove the elastic laces and use the addition shoe laces to get the best fit. I bought these shoes due to all the hype and talk about their comfort. It was mostly true, they were comfortable but not $150 worth of comfortable. Prior to that I had been wearing a two year old pair of Reebok sneakers that I paid $75 for that were more comfortable and still look better than these shoes that I purchased almost four months ago. I wear them to walk my 13 year old lab (, i.e. NOT fast, at all) and to work in an office. I take them off once I'm home and repeat almost daily. On occasion I have to wear dress shoes but for the most part, I wear these. Not anymore. They are literally, falling apart. As you can see from the picture, they're not even fully laced, which gives the material plenty of room to expand and flex. DIn't matter. As you can see from the picture, they're not even fully laced, which gives the material plenty of room to expand and flex. DIn't matter. I am beyond disappointed with the quality and lack of durability, especially since I wear these while walking my old slow dog then to my car, a few steps through a parking garage and into a carpeted office. I'm not hiking in them, running or doing anything strenous. Just walking. And this is the result after four months! Granted, I'm a heavy guy at 225 lbs but come on! I cannot and do not recommend these shoes. Maybe a different model will last longer but at the prices they sell for, I'm not taking the risk.
I've seen many a coworker, nurse, med-tech, etc wearing these ON shoes. I've asked many of them for opinions and did not receive one negative reply. Still the price made me hesitate.I visited some long-time friends last month and was surprised to see both of them wearing ON shoes for their morning walk. I guess that was the tipping point for me. Went to the local Dick's a couple of hours later and after waiting longer than expected for service, I was able to try on several different models from the ON shoe line. I ended up walking out with the Cloud 5. Now after wearing them almost daily for the past month, the hip pain I had been experiencing is nothing more than an afterthought. Don't be like me, don't wait.
I had these shoes for four months, the soles wore out and starting to rip in only four months. The last pair of shoes I had for years before I bought these. I thought I would treat my self and get a more expensive pair of shoes. I ended up paying twice as much and getting a quarter of the value. If that wasn't upsetting enough l tried returning them and they said it was normal wear and tear and would not let me return them. Keep in mind my last pair lasted years under the same use. Im not only giving the shoes two stars but also REI's return polices. They advertise 100% satisfaction guarantee. I was not satisfied with this product and now im not satisfied with REI. I am generally willing to pay the higher prices at REI because I knew if somthing went wrong or i was ... MoreI had these shoes for four months, the soles wore out and starting to rip in only four months.
