I don't know what the two negative reviews are about. They're saying they're not cushioned enough. They're trail shoes designed for running off-road which is already soft. This is due to the liner which fits like a sock and is excellent at keeping debris, mulch and pebbles out of your shoe when running off-road. The adjustable thingy on the laces is fantastic if your feet swell on long runs. It loosens your laces without untying your shoe.I cannot recommend these shoes enough. Fantastic trail shoes that can take a punishment on and off-road.

I decided to try this shoe out after wearing down the pair I'd been running in all of quarantine. These seemed really neat and cool on the rack and the REI salesperson who helped me said they were good for narrow feet, similar to the shoes I'd been running in previously. I've never worn a pair of On shoes before and I was excited to try these out, but unfortunately I came up mildly disappointed. The big negative for me was that these shoes have little to no traction on wet concrete (sidewalks, roads, etc). I found myself slipping and almost falling during my first walk in these on some slightly wet sidewalk, which seemed odd since I expected these to have good traction. I understand that these shoes are trail-running specific, and I run in trail running shoes ... MoreI decided to try this shoe out after wearing down the pair I'd been running in all of quarantine. I found myself slipping and almost falling during my first walk in these on some slightly wet sidewalk, which seemed odd since I expected these to have good traction. I understand that these shoes are trail-running specific, and I run in trail running shoes purposefully because I prefer trails to roads. But my usual routes require running on road or sidewalk in order to get to the trails, unless I wanted to drive which kinda ruins the run. I purchased these shoes in the summer and found that during the warm, dry summer months, that on the few runs I did with these that I had no traction issues on dry concrete or any of the trails. I think these shoes probably have great traction on trails in any condition, but it was disappointing to have traction issues on wet concrete of all things. With summer coming to a close, I decided to not risk getting an injury and return them before the wet, fall weather arrived and get another pair of La Sportiva Bushido II's since I had been running in those previously and knew they had great traction. On the positive side, I did really enjoy the feel of these shoes. The toe-heel drop was a little higher than what I was running in previously but didn't run into any issues. I found that these shoes provided a lot of bounce in my step and for the most part they were a fun shoe to run in. The main issue was that most of the time I spent wearing them I was thinking about how bad the traction was and not focusing on my run. I think the ability to loosen or tighten the laces is a really cool feature and I utilized that on most of the runs I did with these. Overall, this shoe is good, but I can't get past the traction issues, especially since I live in an area that receives a lot of rain.

These shoes look to be, and feel really durable which I love to see. These could easily last a couple seasons which is rare in trail runners. I like the water-tight material used on the lower part of the uppers, it kept my feet nice and dry during a couple days of rain, mud, and snow, while still being plenty breathable due to the airy material used for the rest of the upper. The tread is really great, much better on wet/damp rocks than any shoe, or maybe even boot, that I've used before. Mud was definitely a problem though... there is a deep Y-shaped groove in the tread and it easily fills will mud, but it's really hard to get mud out of there. The holes through the side of the midsole weren't too problematic even in pretty deep mud, but I imagine they could get ... MoreThese shoes look to be, and feel really durable which I love to see. The holes through the side of the midsole weren't too problematic even in pretty deep mud, but I imagine they could get filled in pretty easily if you're going through the right mix of dirt/mud. The shoe was surprisingly stiff, I was expecting a bit more of a bouncy feel based on the construction of the mid-sole, but the extremely stiff insole and board under it made me feel like I had to run flat-footed. It had a bit of that clunky feel of a new hiking boot due to the stiffness. I'm sure with more use they'll loosen up to what's more my taste. I did like that I couldn't feel rocks, etc. which I've found to be an issue with some thinner and cushier trail runners.I have to bring it up though it's a problem with most running shoe brands, when will shoe manufacturers figure out what shape a foot is? The uppers dug into my (albeit slightly wide) toes making a pretty uncomfortable experience. I'm sure when the upper inevitably blows out at that spot it will be more comfortable. If your foot is pretty much average throughout, then this shoe would be a fine fit, but if you like a good toe box then this probably isn't the choice for you.

I bought these shoes to wear as my work shoes as a documentary filmmaker. Shoes are one of the most important things for me as I am constantly in mixed environments that require tough shoes with grip and resistance to the elements with the ability to sprint.I was excited to try these shoes and see how they hold up, and for the first couple of weeks they were excellent. They are true to size and are perfect for people who have a normal width foot. Unfortunately around the 50 mile mark of use issues started to develop - my forefoot and toes started to get sore and I'm still dealing with the aftermath. I come to find out that the sole in the forefoot section has worn down, and the cushioning has gone flat. I come to find out that the sole in the forefoot section has worn down, and the cushioning has gone flat. At this point I can't wear these shoes until my foot fully recovers because the pain comes back immediately. This is my fifth pair of Ons this year, I am trying all of their latest styles to see which will work for me the best as I no longer wear Adidas because they are too narrow for my feet, and I don't care for Nike.On has come a long way since their first run of shoes, but they are far from perfected. Some changes I'd like to see moving forward for the Cloud Ultra 3 would be a better formula for the sole, increase cushioning, increase durability, some weather resistance variants - not fully waterproof necessarily but something to keep your feet dry in the rain. This is so close to being the perfect mixed use shoe!
I’ve been wearing these new shoes for a week so far. They are super comfortable and supportive. I like the slip-on sock-type liner — so I can pull them on and off without having to fuss with the laces. The toe box is comfortable and not too narrow. I usually wear size 10.5, and that size fits just right in these shoes. I tried on a size 11 and was swimming in them (too big). I think these shoes will be excellent and comfortable for hiking, walking my dog on trails, and for travelling / backpacking.
Comfortable out of the box. They are lightweight. They kind of form to your foot. They are too soft to wear all day. Not too much in foot support for a shoe like this. They will roll your feet inward when walking. Don’t really seem to be stiffer “trail” shoe. I certainly would not hike in these.
I was really excited to try a pair of these after having On recommended to me from several people. These shoes felt good at first but completely fell apart on me with less than 200 miles of trail. The upper split along a seam on the inside of the foot making them unusable.I reached out to On about the issue and they explained it wasn't covered by the manufacturers warranty.Fit and feel of these shoes is great, but I really couldn't recommend them to someone at this price when they just don't hold up to trail running. The descriptions of "ultra" and "technical trail" feel very misleading after my experience with them.
I have plantar fasciitis and these shoes have the most heel cushion of any other shoe I have tried, including Hokas. They dont eliminate plantar fasciitis but they make it easier to get some exercise and have less pain after a walk. I didn’t give a 5’star review because of cost, and some of the funky coloring and because I haven’t owned them long enough to evaluate how well they wear.
I am quite disappointed in these ON shoes. I have had them for a year and very rarely wear this pair. The mesh on the upper sides of the shoes have torn open and look awful. I was originally going to return them due to the exterior material not looking nice after two wears but held on anyway because I liked the fit. Since I do not wear them often I did not notice the tears until recently and it is now too late to return.
Picked these ON's after trying on 6 different trail runners and running on the treadmill in the store. Very impressed after the first couple of 5-7 mile runs in the foothills of San Diego. Internal sock (no tongue) is super comfortable and hold my narrower feet secure without being tight anywhere. The midsole has a lot of cushion but is pleasantly springy on takeoff. They feel very stable over rocky terrain, especially with lateral movements. These are qualities I was looking for and missing after trying Altra and Hoka before. These are fun to run in. Great heal to toe transition feel. Tread was great over rocky and loose dirt with fairly steep inclines and declines. Haven't been able to test them on anything wet. The forefoot expender is a nice feature to give a like more room towards the end of my run. They look like they will be durable and I expect 400 miles out of them. If you have really wide feet you should probably try them on first. No soreness or tightness in my feet or legs after a good trail run is saying something at 45 years old and is probably the best test. Can't wait to go again.
