This could easily have been a 5-star review, except for one major drawback; a non-removable insole. On the pro side of things, I loved the out-of-the-box fit and comfort of this shoe (I have a standard B or medium width foot, size 9) and I loved the look and the versatility that it provided as I bought it for a trip to Japan where I'd be both exploring the urban areas (and wanted to have a couple cute outfits) as well as doing some treks (in the rain). This shoe was unbelievably comfortable for the many, many miles I walked around the cities of Japan and for the light day hikes I did but when it came time for serious treks in wet conditions, I seriously regret that I was willing to overlook the insole issue. I would normally never buy a hiking shoe without a removable insole for either upgrading to a Currex or a Smartfeet insole and/or for the need to pull the insole after a big hike to let it dry. Unfortunately, I spent my longest trek on the trip (six days) in soggy feet; both from too much sweating in a waterproof hiker in warm, high-humidity and from days and days of rain. If you're just a light, day hiker, this shoe could be perfect.

I'm very pleased to say that these shoes are pretty amazing! I have gotten quite a bit of use out of them just in the last few weeks. We hike local trails here near Crystal River FL and I'm looking forward to taking them on the AT next month. I used them through our close call with hurricane Ian, which landed 2 hours south of us, through 2 days of having to be outside during the rain, my feet remained completely dry!! I will say that I always take a size 7 shoe, I think I would buy these in a 7 1/2 (my toes are hitting the front of the shoe more than I'm used to), although they may stretch over the next few weeks, we will see. They are not so snug that it's affecting my hikes so I'm looking forward to seeing what the longevity is on these shoes. Very comfortable, no blisters, no rubbing, wonderful grip on the soles, very esthetically pleasing. I have a pair of Vasque hiking boots that I got from Bill Jackson"s and they are actually more comfortable than those are. So my only con is that the size may run 1/2 smaller than usual, but I'd like to see what other people think about that as well. Overall, would highly recommend!

I immediately put these shoes on after opening the box and wore them around the house for the evening. I knew I wasn’t barefoot but could not feel shoes on my feet!Next I wore them on a two-mile walk around the neighborhood, on paved surfaces. Absolute comfort. I deliberately walked through wet grass; the water just beaded on the surface. Then I wore them on a 4-mile hike on natural surface trails and carrying a 10-pound daypack. I never felt the rocks or roots under my feet. I went through more wet grass plus a 1-inch+ puddle and this time the water beads soaked into the surface but never reached my socks or feet. I had no need to change shoes to drive home; my feet didn’t seem to know they had been on a hike.FYI: I have high arches and insteps plus have had ... MoreI immediately put these shoes on after opening the box and wore them around the house for the evening. I have an average width foot and ordered 1/2 size up. This was my 2nd pair of ON shoes, other for running. For some reason these shoes hug my feet not in a comfortable way. Not tight but tight enough to feel the shoe which after about an hour makes my feet ache. Hiking shoe not soft and not very cushioned. Maybe they could be broken in but I’m used to very comfortable, supportive shoes right out of the box. Could be ON shoes are just not for my foot shape. Returned as not comfortable for me.
I normally love ON Cloud shoes-was hopeful they’d be awesome and as comfortable as normal ON training shoes as I needed new hiking shoes. I read the previous reviews and ordered both my normal size I wear in most ON’s and a 1/2 size larger. The normal size was still too short in the toe box to hike and too wide in the heel. The 1/2 size up was fine in length but wide everywhere- especially in the heel for me. I think if you have a wide heel and feet on the wider side these may be fabulous for you- but not for your standard M width foot! Style & color were great- but they went back. (I normally wear a 9.5/10 shoe but a 10 or 10.5 in ON- I ordered a 10.5 and an 11 in this shoe!)
I've worn these on a few short hikes so far, and I'm pretty happy with the features. The chunky soles have great traction on loose dirt and leaves, and there's a comfortable amount of padding to keep my feet happy. I haven't gotten to test them in muddy conditions, but in light rain they've done a good job of keeping my feet dry, without getting excessively sweaty. When lacing the shoes, the last outer eyelet is open, while the corresponding inner eyelet is closed. I'm not sure what the purpose of this is?I've had a bit of a hard time getting the fit adjusted just right. Too loose, and my heel keeps sliding up and down when I walk. Too tight, and it's painful at the top of the foot. If these came in a Wide size, that might work better for me.That said, if I can ... MoreI've worn these on a few short hikes so far, and I'm pretty happy with the features. Overall these are solid hiking shoes that I’m happy to add into the rotation. I’ve worn these on a variety of surfaces so far – rocks, loose gravel, sand, and dirt – and they’ve performed well on every surface. They provide good traction going downhill on loose dirt/gravel and very solid support over jagged rocks. Due to the design of the sole (which is common across most On shoes), rocks can get caught in the bottom of the shoe but it doesn’t happen frequently and they can easily be popped out. They run a smidge on the small and narrow side. I was able to adjust the fit by wearing thinner socks, but if you run on the larger/wider side, you may want to go up half a size. These are a great option for day and casual hikes. These are awesome shoes! After a week of use I realized that they felt even more comfortable than when I first started wearing them. I wore them hiking, walking my dog, doing yard work and to the grocery store. They provide great arch support and great traction in both wet and dry conditions. My daughter-in-law, a nurse, saw that I was wearing them and told me that her coworkers all have them because they're so comfy when they're on their feet all day. I really love these hiking shoes and I'm thrilled that they're waterproof on top of everything else.I'll be honest and tell you that I started out looking for things that I didn't like about this hiking shoe. But then it all fell out without any help from me after it dried so I had to cross that off my one-item list. Did I mention that these hiking shoes are awesome?
This is my 4th pair of On Cloud but my 1st pair of hikers for an upcoming hiking trip. I absolutely love the look... HOWEVER, they hurt my feet. Every OC I own has been incredible... but these hikers are extremely narrow AND short. The toe box is very small. I have a normal width foot so I was very surprised how small these are!!! I'll try a half size up but afraid my heel will slip out. I wanted these to work so badly. I also tried HOKA but met with the same issues. If I try a half size bigger, the heel is too loose. Pretty confused for what to do.
I ordered a size 10 which is my true size almost across all shoe types & these cramp my toes. They also feel like they will rub in the Achilles area with or without tall socks. I wore them around my house briefly & didn’t like how stiff & restrictive they felt. If there was a size 10.5, I would be willing to try them again. I love the idea of waterproof & I love the color scheme so this is a shame!
