As a flexible vegetarian, whey has still been part of my morning smoothie routine but the recent surges in whey protein powder prices was the encouragement I needed to finally get on the plant protein. This has been a pretty good replacement and my morning peanut butter and banana smoothie hasn't been affected much from a taste and consistency point of view. One thing that really annoys me though - why is this only available in such a small size? It seems like every other protein powder SKU from Optimum is available in multiple sizes but this is just 19 servings, which just seems crazy from a packaging and sustainability point of view. It's 2022 guys - let's get a bulk bag available and cut down on packaging and deliveries please!!

Both the positive and the negative reviews of this product are correct. I have tried other plant protein powders before, and they were all awful. By this I mean makes-you-want-to-gag awful, not just a little displeasing on the taste buds. This one merely tastes unappetising. The chocolate and sweeteners mostly conceal the bitter, underlying flavour. And of course it's healthy, vegan, and low environmental impact. I've tried it with 3 different products: soy milk, almond milk, and vanilla yogurt. It mixes well with soy and almond milk, though the taste—well I've already mentioned the taste. Ironically, the vanilla yogurt actually worked the best, completely swamping the taste of the pea and rice protein (likely because it's so overpoweringly sweet), so that's what ... MoreBoth the positive and the negative reviews of this product are correct. You can't really win when it comes to protein powders. For me, it's either soy milk with whey protein, or this with yogurt, but I can't stomach the 100% plant options.

Optimum Nutrition’s 100% Plant Protein is a great option for post-workout recovery or as a protein-packed snack in a well-balanced diet. The Vanilla flavor is smooth and not too sweet, perfect for mixing into shakes or smoothies. With 24 grams of protein per serving, it provides all 20 amino acids, including the 9 essential ones. It mixes well with water or almond milk without that gritty texture you sometimes get with plant proteins. I preferred the flavor better when mixed with almond milk. Plus, it’s gluten-free and free from artificial colors or sweeteners, so it’s clean and natural. The 12-serving size is super convenient for testing it out before committing to a bigger tub. Whether you’re recovering after a workout or just trying to boost your daily protein ... MoreOptimum Nutrition’s 100% Plant Protein is a great option for post-workout recovery or as a protein-packed snack in a well-balanced diet. I've been working my macros out, making sure to be in a caloric deficit as I'm cutting. I've also got onto doing fasting which has insane results, I make sure to break my fast with 50g of protein and 24g of that comes from this protein powder. I can't big it up enough, gold standard has always been my favourite protein powder however even when I was in good shape I always had stomach bloating which I did not think I would ever be able to get rid of. That was until I found this protein powder, it's a complete game changer I won't be changing anytime soon as it's truly amazing I wish I went onto this earlier than I did but I was worried about a plant based protein powder not tasting too good as I read a lot of reviews but I mix this with my soya and it honestly tastes ... MoreI've been working my macros out, making sure to be in a caloric deficit as I'm cutting. I highly recommend switching to this protein powder.
It’s not been easy to find a low sugar, low carb, plant-based protein powder! I was excited to try this alone for that reason. I also appreciate that Optimum labels this as gluten free, which is something I like for. I generally prefer plant-based protein powder as it’s easier on my stomach, but finding a high protein version has been challenging. This protein powder meets all my requirements, being high protein, gluten free, low carb, and it’s pretty tasty. I’ve just mixed this with water, but it tastes better in more of a semi frozen state, mixed with almond milk and blended with some ice. It’s not a super chocolatey flavor to me and I have added a tiny bit more cocoa powder when I use a blender. So, first off I'll have to admit that I haven't really had any other plant based protein powders to compare this to, I'm coming straight from a more typical whey protein, but figured I would try something new here. When I made it up as per the instructions on the packaging (1 scoop per 300ml of water) I found that it was way too thick and grainy for me personally. When I watered it down more to about 1 scoop per 500ml it was a lot more palatable. Still not the most tasty protein shake I've had, and I'm not a fan of the aftertaste, but I'm willing to make some sacrifices on that front. I can see it working well in other applications like smoothie bowls etc where you're looking for something thick, otherwise I would suggest adding more liquid than you would for other ... MoreSo, first off I'll have to admit that I haven't really had any other plant based protein powders to compare this to, I'm coming straight from a more typical whey protein, but figured I would try something new here. It's a good product and if you experiment a bit you can make it work for you, but the instructions on the packaging do not make a tasty shake.
Tastes fine. Of course not like real veg/fruit smoothie's too much effort todo. It's drinkable and doesn't feel awful, have shakes/mixes easily without lumps. Feel rejuvenated after heavy weights workouts. Does the job, price is okay. I've used other vegan shakes, but don't feel rejuvenated afterwards. This still tastes slightly artificial, but even the claimed to be pure natural have chemical sweetener in.
The product itsef is good; most vegan protein powders are quite misleading as they tend to only contain some form of pea. But not this one, it is made up of both pea's and rice which enables it to be 'complete' protein unlike those without the combination. The flavour is fabulous provided you mix it with water and oat milk like myself. Without the two it's nothing outstanding. I tend to have it in a smoothie in the mornings then the oat milk water combo after working out So why is my rating a 3? There's not enough in the container and they do not provide any other sizes. So if you have it twice a day it would last less than 2 weeks. Even if like myself, you had it once a day for 2days and twice a day for the rest of the week as you exercise. Now not everyone would opt to do this but I choose to as I want to consume a healthy amount of protein everyday. It's strange to me that the container states that the maximum servings a day is 3 yet it only contains 20 servings in total.. with that logic anyone who opted to do this could only get 6 and a half days worth While I'd love to continue with this line I'm moving to another brand who actually provide value for money
The pros of this are a complete amino acid profile, it's easy to digest, and it mixes well with water or milks, including plant based ones. My favourite recipe is this with oats, milk, a banana, and peanut butter. You can have this three times a day, maybe even more, without digestive or other issues. The best flavour is definitely vanilla. Recent recipe changes left the chocolate flavour tasting absolutely awful. The vanilla isn't fantastic but it is palatable, and it doesn't hurt to add some cinnamon or other flavours to make it better. The price has increased by nearly 50% and the product has stayed the same. If you are having three Shakes a day each pack runs out in a week. Gets quite expensive and the recent price hike only makes this worse. I dont submit reviews. But i have to deter folks from buying this. I had good experience with the ON whey double chocolate one so i thought i’d get vegan protein from the same brand. It keeps expanding like pudding. Even after blitzing in the blender, its just awfully thick, lumpy and the taste is nasty. I bought 2 of these and i dont know what to do with it. Maybe its good for baking. I switched to form performance protein - which is very sweet but hey at least it mixes well and no lumps
