Easy to use

We purchased this thermometer because the normal ones take a whole to use and it’s hard to hold under a wriggly baby’s arm long enough to register a reading. With this thermometer it is so easy to point at the temple (2-3cm away) and within seconds you have a reading. There are other settings on there you can use but I personally haven’t tried them so I can’t comment on that. There’s an option to have the sound on or off which is great if you need to take a sleeping babies temp and don’t want to risk the little beep waking them. The screen lights up so you can see in the dark and if the temp is high the screen will change colour.I really love that it is non contact so therefore no cleaning is required and it comes with a hard case to keep it in and protect it.

The display is easy to read because it has large, high contrast, backlit numbers. The unit starts quickly, takes a measurement quickly & gives audible feedback to say it has done so, then shuts off to save the battery. Accuracy is probably good - at least, measurements of the same source taken within a few seconds of each other are almost always identical to within 0.1 degrees. This unit is unusual in that it can also be switched to other modes for non-contact measurement of objects at much higher and lower temperatures than the human body. Great for finding hot & cold spots when assessing energy use in buildings, for example.

I have actually prebought this as I'm having a baby but have used it frequently lately with everything going on. When I'm feeling a bit run down and overheating, I check my temperature and its so easy to use, just put it near the temple as per instruction and it measures your temp accurately. I also have another thermometer which measures the same temp so I know it's working properly and I have complete trust in it for when I need it for bubs.

Great thermometer until the room temp drops below 16deg
3 November 2022

I found this thermometer great until I moved house and also stopped using the heater all night when my son got a bit older. New house gets much colder, so overnight I could not get this thermometer to work. And could not work out why until I did some digging and found a few similar reviews. Very frustrating when you are trying to check your little ones temp.Would not recommend this product.

Immediate regret
1 August 2022

I wish I had heeded the warnings from previous reviewers that the device doesn't work when the room temp is below 16 C. Winter and flu season is generally when you need it. I bought this in winter and it will not function at all. Given the price of the unit, there are better alternatives.

Not good for winter!
20 June 2019

I purchased this thermometer in the summer months when I had a newborn. It has worked fine up until the weather turned cold. We live in a cold region and I kept finding every time I tried to take my babies temperature the thermometer would automatically change to house temperature 16 degrees Celsius. I read through the instruction booklet and found if the temperature isn't what they call normal room temperature it will not work. I have to have the heating on in the house and have the device sitting in a heated room for at least half an hour before it will work. With the price of electricity who can afford to keep the heating on 24hrs a day just in case your baby wakes feeling hot and you need to take a temperature straight away in case her temperature has reached ... MoreI purchased this thermometer in the summer months when I had a newborn. Waiting half an hour for the device to work in these conditions is not acceptable.I will now need to spend more money on a new thermometer that works at all times. Not impressed.

Not that great
17 June 2021

We’ve only had this thermometer since March 2021 - used it for 4 days while our son was sick and had high temperature. Took it out yesterday to use it as our little one is sick again and doesn’t work. Took it back to BB they replaced the batteries and worked again. Tonight stopped working. Guess the old fashion ones are the way to go.

Simply Dangerous - Please Avoid

We purchased had a Braun digital Ear thermometer for our babies (now kids) about seven years ago. The device is a bit clunky to use and requires the patients ear to be probed when tested, but it has always been reliable and accurate. When Covid-19 started kicking off early this year I wanted to get a non-contact thermometer for easier, less intrusive temperature monitoring. After checking reviews we ended up buying the Oricom HFS1000. When we first got this we thought that it was amazing. The device turns on quickly, it measures the temperature quickly and it has a colour coded background when displaying results, ie healthy temperature shows a green back ground. After checking reviews we ended up buying the Oricom HFS1000. When we first got this we thought that it was amazing. The device turns on quickly, it measures the temperature quickly and it has a colour coded background when displaying results, ie healthy temperature shows a green back ground. We were completely stoked about this purchase. When we bought there were a few negative reviews that we saw and we figured that from our experience that they mush have been wrong, how wrong were we!We have recently had a couple of occasions when our young kids have reported being sick. We got the new Oricom HFS1000 thermometer out, checked them and their temperature was fine and sent them on their way. One night our youngest (who has previously been carted off in an Ambulance after a Febrile Convulsion) was clearly very sick. We tested her with the Oricom thermometer and she recorded a 'Green' temperature of 36.7 degrees. It was obvious to us that she had a fever as she was very hot, we tested with the unit repeatedly and it kept returning around the same temperature. Thankfully we still had the trusty old Braun digital ear thermometer around and tried that. It showed that her temperature was 39.1 degrees! It appears that our new Oricom thermometer is completely inaccurate and down right dangerous for monitoring fevers in children. I have attached a photo of both the Braun unit showing the 39.1 degree temperature and Oricom reading the 36.7 degree fever. These were both taken simultaneously on a sick hot child. On the 3rd of July 2020 I contacted Oricom, who were friendly to speak to but completely unfased and unworried about our experience. They were quick to point out that I could have a replacement or refund from our retailer but were not interested in investigating further. The lady that I spoke to (Janet) said that all products have the occasional failure and was not worried. I mentioned that from the reviews on this website and others that this appeared to be far more than a one off and again she appeared un-interested.The most disappointing part of this issue is that the manufacturer is not interested in receiving our unit back to investigate and look at a type fault. I suspect that there are many units out there (possibly all) that do not indicate correctly when the patient has a fever. Due to lack of interest from the company in investigating this fault, I will be reporting this failure to the Therapeutic Goods administration. To others with similar problems I suggest that you report your concerns to the TGA through their website...After emailing through our receipt I was promised a replacement unit would be sent. It is now the 26th of July and I have neither heard any more from the company or received a refund. To All Parents - Please Avoid This Dangerous Device

Very consistent readings and reliable
2 November 2022

This is a great thermometer. Did alot of research before I bought it. Its very consistent and I can actually rely on it, unlike some ear thermometers that give inconsistent readings. Also because this measures at the temple its more accurate then a forehead thermometer. Its one of the better thermometers I've purchased. Easy to use especially at night when kids sleep.

Waste of money - will break down with little use
1 August 2020

Considering this is the most expensive oricomm thermometer that the brand sells this broke down after a year with almost no use. The thermometer now only does ‘house’ temp and will not change to other settings as the instructions tell you how to change. Actually all oricomm products I have purchased have died within a year or shortly after including monitors which have not been touched after being put in place and turned on. The company also doesn’t take responsibility for their products and charge you for repairs so don’t waste your time. Go buy a different brand and save your money.
