I waited a whole month to review this as I have just come back from my 3 week backpacking trip in Japan. I covered some serious miles on this bag as a carry on, and then checked it in on my way back home as I picked up many souvenirs and also bought a large bag at the destination. The support from this bag is the best and nothing comes close. There are bags that cost more but do not have the R&D that Osprey has to make a proper fitting bag that minimizes the strain on your back. The previous version was already regarded as one of the best OneBag travel bags. This new version is even better. The fairview 40 was also just as good and my wife and I agree that our trip would have been a struggle with a lesser bag.

I have been using this bag for 4 years now and it hasnāt disappointed me once. It has probably been to well over 25 countries with me and still looks almost new. It is the perfect size to fit everything in like a carry-on suitcase, yet travels easy on a backpack. I donāt travel anywhere in the world anymore without this pack. If you become a lightweight packer then you will never need anything bigger than this! My only complaint or annoyance is having the laptop sleeve on the outer shell of the bag, instead of on the inside of the bag closest to your back. Other than that I recommend this bag to everyone

This is not a hiking back or commuter bag, but is designed for travel due to its dimensions, clean lines, and no unnecessary dangling straps. Iāve had this since 2017 and have flown all over the US and Europe with it and have not had a problem. I never check bags and put this in the overhead and have a smaller bag for under the seat. When flying in a smaller regional plane, Iāve never had a gate attendant have me check the bag at the gate because they are looking for the wheeled bags. It is comfortable to wear through airports and train stations and beats dragging a wheeled carry-on over cobblestone streets. It has held up very well and still looks new. Use compression bags to fit more if you need to fit more clothes and pack smart- you will have plenty of room. ...Ā MoreThis is not a hiking back or commuter bag, but is designed for travel due to its dimensions, clean lines, and no unnecessary dangling straps. Very satisfied with the pack and itās quality and would buy again.

The Farpoint 40 is a great overall travel pack. It does most everything well. I really like how adjustable the pack is and the weight seemingly disappears even without using the hip belt.My only issue is the lack of external pockets, zip or otherwise, beyond the āstuff itā pocket that doesnāt really work if the pack is full. And the small toiletries pocket is tiny and isnāt useful either if the pack is full.A great effort that is almost perfect.
Pros:Main compartment is roomy with 2 compression straps. I broke my ankle and was able to fit a spare ankle boot in it for a 2-week trip to Europe in addition to all necessities.Front compartment held my 16" laptop, kindle or iPad, book, and other knick-knacks no problem. The slash pocket at the top is perfect for sunglasses and quick-access items like chargers and headphones.2 external compression straps really cinch things down and keep it compact. Tucking the backpack straps away and zipping is easy and makes storing so convenient. One of my favorite features is the duffel strap. Perfect if you're don't want to hand-carry the bag or take the backpack straps out.Cons:- water bottle pockets were difficult to use when the pack was full. Perfect if you're don't want to hand-carry the bag or take the backpack straps out.Cons:- water bottle pockets were difficult to use when the pack was full. I either carried or clipped it on.- the laptop on the front instead of against your back made packing the bag a little quirky. I think they fixed this in the new model though.- I don't think I got the right size, which made the fit feel a little tight. They may have gone to O/S for future models -- but make sure you get the right fit- because it's just one pack, you have to store it overhead. So if you want to use items mid-transit, you either need a small bag under the seat too or else getting settled or ready to go can get a little complex.Overall, I love this pack. For the last "con" above, though, I opted for the Farpoint 55. This allows me to store the 40L pack overhead and have a quick access day-pack for whatever I need in-transit.
Bought this for recent Canada Trip from the UK. Fantastic, Very comfortable with the padded waistband. Internal straps holding down and compressing packing cubes perfectly. I left a little space at the top to allow for plenty of space within the sunglasses / quick access pocket. On one of our flights the check in desk asked for volunteers to check in their hand luggage (for free) as there was limited overhead space. I took this option and I re-packed lots of extra Kit inside and re-compressed with internal and external straps. Probably "out of scope for carry on size" by now but lots of extra kit in the bag. Overall very happy to recommend this bag.
The shoulder and waist straps on this bag secure the load so well, you could easily sprint with a full load. If you know how to backpack correctly, this has all the adjustments to balance the load. The straps can be zipped up, to avoid any catching on the TSA scanners or anything on the plane. You can pack just enough for four days, including electronics. The fluorescent bright interior allows you to find your stuff easily in the pack. The pack blended well with my clothing selection and almost looked like it was part of the uniform. The colors blend in with the environment well and do not attract any unwanted attention. This is the first pack I've found other than military packs that has breakaway zippers allowing you to rip open the pack to get to things quickly. ...Ā MoreThe shoulder and waist straps on this bag secure the load so well, you could easily sprint with a full load. This is the first pack I've found other than military packs that has breakaway zippers allowing you to rip open the pack to get to things quickly. This may be why the zippers have holes for locks; however, the zippers are easily hidden underneath the zipper flap, so it may be hard for a potential pickpocket to mug you even if you forget to lock your bag. This is the best, most practical travel pack I've ever owned.
This is a very nice travel backpack. High quality construction as is typical for Osprey. The 40 L is a nice size in terms of carry on plus the side and top handles aid in handling the backpack, while the shoulder straps and belt fold into a zippered back compartment when not using it as a backpack. The compression straps are a really nice feature too. My only critique would be a lack of internal compartment organization (one mesh liner), however, it does have a separate padded compartment for a laptop. Overall I am impressed and would buy it again.
I'm really quite impressed with this backpack. I knew the overall size but could never have imagined how feature-packed a bag could be. The cinch straps on the inside and outside really make it possible to squeeze in every last cubic inch. The waist, shoulder, and lower straps ensure a perfect fit that hugs your back and reduces the strain on your body. There are the perfect amount of pockets, straps, nylon hooks, etc. The bag is dripping with quality. I've used both handles with a full bag and haven't felt like anything was going to tear. The laptop storage compartment is nice and secure. I like that it's closer to the back versus away from the body. Have had no troubles on any flights, domestic and international, stowing it above the seat. I was happy with the gray color and if my wife ever decides she wants one, I'm glad they have more options like blue, red, and green.
I bought this pack 6 years ago and have waited until now to review it - trust me when I saw I know this pack intimately. For at least 6 months I lived my entire life out of this bag, including hiking 500 miles across Spain, traveling literally around the globe and sailing up an American coast, and I haven't regretted the purchase once.I'm 5'8, about 165lbs, and have a VERY hard time finding backpacks that fit me as I have a very high waist but also quite broad shoulders. At the time I bought this I had to special order it - I tried on every single pack in the store and this (in the smaller size) is the only one that fit me. Thank goodness I like it! Don't let the 'gender' of this bag limit you - try on packs built for different bodies to see what works for yours ...Ā MoreI bought this pack 6 years ago and have waited until now to review it - trust me when I saw I know this pack intimately. Don't let the 'gender' of this bag limit you - try on packs built for different bodies to see what works for yours rather than relying on tags like "men's" or "women's."Positives:-durable and very well made, plus Osprey's incredible All Mighty Guarantee. I definitely would have broken the zippers on a less sturdy pack with the beating I've given this one, but it keeps chugging along-fits my body perfectly - comfortable hip belt, good sternum strap, breathes well enough-easy to open and find your belongings, several pockets and organization options-zips up to convert to a sleek carryon bag, perfect for globetrotting and throwing in an overhead bin or under a bus with all the straps tucked away.-can convert between a backpack and a shoulder bag if that's your thing. I threw out the shoulder strap as being lopsided like that never does my body any favors-pretty water resistant. I haven't hiked in super wet environments in this one but have definitely been in a downpour or two and my stuff has never suffered.Negatives:-those water bottle pockets on the sides - what are they doing? The way the compression straps cinch over them means that it's nearly impossible to get a water bottle easily in and out. I truly do not understand this aspect of the design-the computer pocket is not flush up against the back, but rather between the two compartments, which doesn't make much sense to me (particularly as there's no hydration reservoir taking up that against-the-back-spot. Oh, and it would be nice if there was a clip for keys in the top small pocket.-I wish the inner cinch straps were a different diameter or had different buckles than the outer compression straps - they look basically identical and can get a big mixed up sometimes when packing it up-my black bag has faded a bit over time, but I don't consider this a negative, rather a mark of the years of work its put in.-no spot for hydration bladders if that's your thingBut those flaws are honestly fairly minor - I love this bag. It's comfortable, durable, multipurpose, unobtrusive, easy to travel with, easy to keep organized. I bought a couple of packing cubes that live in it, which definitely helps me stay organized on long hauls. I prefer a pared down single compartment and minimal organization for backpacking (love cutting weight) but for something to actually LIVE with and travel with this bag has been a champion.
