Wow. I'm very impressed with this travel pack. My only requirements is that it has to be carryon only. I didn't want to check bags in and the Osprey Farpoint 55L meets those requirements. This travel pack separates into 2. A 45L main compartment and a 10L day bag. The only time I did was when I attached the 10L pack in front of me, but I had a camera, 3 lens and a laptop. The 10L pack clips into the main bag's shoulder strap. With this being said, it transfers the weight distribution towards the front. Your mileage may vary.Compartments in both are a bit spare. The 10L bag has a laptop sleeve, a small interior pocket and a main pocket. Exterior has 2 mesh pockets. The 45L only has an interior wall pocket and a mesh pocket on the access lid.I've docked a star off. I think previous version of this travel pack had exterior clips or cords where you can attach a tripod or sleeping bag? I understand this travel pack is made to be a carry on, but it would be nice to have additional straps/clips/storage if I'm not flying.I highly recommend this travel pack if you're like me and don't want to check any bags in, looking for ample space to carry your stuff, and something that isn't too flashy or over the top.

I take the day pack everywhere every day now.

I purchased this pack for a 3 week trip to Thailand, where we didn't stay anywhere for more than 3 nights at a time.It was the perfect size, super comfy, and the day pack was spot on too. I never thought I'd use the clips to have the day pack on my chest but I used this every time we travelled.It's now my go to 'suitcase' for all trips, and also just a big comfy backpack for day trips too.In addition Osprey's customer service is exceptional, my day pack had a very minor fault and they swiftly replaced the whole pack in order to make sure I had it in time for another trip.Don't hesitate to get it!

This is a comfortable bag to carry, then the straps can be put away. Note there are no frills here- like extra pockets and organization features, just one small pocket on the top and the laptop sleeve. I picked this as the max "carry on size" and couldn't help but notice that most folks on the plane had something larger. Fit easily in the overhead of a large plane. More expensive packs have all kinds of extra pockets but this works for me as I have a "personal item" carry on that takes care of the little things.
This pack had everything I wanted. The stowaway straps, large capacity, and a separate carryon bag to use as a daypack, however the day pack is sooo small. It sits uncomfortably like wearing a child's backpack. It would be great if it were just a few inches taller and a little deeper. The chest harness isn't very great either if you're a bigger guy. Apparently made for twigs. Big guys adventure too!
I do like that is lighter (and cheaper) than the Sojourn models, but unfortunately lighter here means less durable. I've used it in only 1 trip so far and already showing obvious wear and tear signs from being miss-treated by airline baggage handlers, not faring nearly as well as my Sojourn after years of abuse.Also, the wheels feel much cheaper, a bit off cantered and rubbing on the plastic casing around them, not very smooth.If you are planning to use it more as a backpack then I would recommend only because is lighter, but if you plan 50/50 backpack/suitcase use, then I'd recommend the Sojourn instead, it would last much longer.
Ended up returning it because I discovered after ordering that it is too big to be a "personal item" on our flight. Loved the roomy interior and well placed smaller pockets. Wishes: lighter colour interior fabric to see inside more easily (gopher green bag has dark blue inside), vent space on back foam. The main zipper is a little awkward to use, but the trade off is the nice big open top. And the straps were uncomfortable at the front, although maybe they'd relax with wear. A beautiful bag, just not for me.
I got this bag so I can have a daily work bag to bring my laptop and work gear, but I also wanted something that I could take on the trail with me. This fits the bill perfect. I wouldn't use this for hardcore work traveling as it is not that big, but it is perfect for bringing you laptop, water bottle, notepad, and a few other items back and forth to work. It also looks very professional. It will also be the right size for a day hike. It has good support and adjustability like all Osprey bags. It also has the slots to put a hydration pack in the backpack and have the hose come out. It attaches to bigger Osprey packs if you are doing a backpack in Europe type of trip, which is a nice little bonus. Great pack for the price, recommended.
I just returned from traveling through Eastern France using my new Farpoint 55. After having the pack for to my torso, it was extremely comfortable compared to what I’ve been using for international travel and easily fit separately into airlines overhead bins. On this trip, the combined weight of primary pack and the attached daypack was right at 30 lbs. I walked for many miles with the heavy pack, in an upright posture. I never ever felt stress on my shoulders or back as the primary weight was more on my hips. I have since done several work trips, and I prefer this bag over a suitcase, I'm just that kind of traveler, a backpack over a suitcase any day. Fits my 14" laptop, accessories, documents and paperwork comfortably, and lockable zippers are brownie points. The ONLY quirk I see is the mesh water bottle pockets..?? I dont know who decided they should go there, put in a water bottle and it got stolen, because it sits on the back, so if someone doesn't pick it from your bag, you're likely to lose it when bending over or something, very odd position, I just put a pack towel and some snacks in there. Overall? Well done Osprey.Btw I bought the bag direct from Osprey, for warranty purposes, but MEC is cheaper and offers similar warranty. Sooo in like 15 years when this bag finally starts to rip, I'll buy from MEC. :)
