This was a very cool find! it is incredibly handy and very high quality material and sturdy constructionthe backpack straps are easily stowable and there is plenty of space for carry on essentials and for non flight related trips it’s got lots of pockets for gear and two huge ones for water bottles/drinks on the front that are secured by buckled strapsthis has been an excellent purchase so far would definitely recommend

Bought one, loved it so much, bought a second. Seriously, this bag is easy to use. The size, weight, the option of the backpack, all make it so worth the money. It's durable. My girlfriend was specially fitted for a different, slightly more expensive style, thinking it would be easy to carry through the airport, carry on and off trains and around France. It wasn't, and it broke right away. My Osprey held up like a CHAMP. we returned hers and replaced it with this exact model. It holds all her make-up n stuff in a seperate zippered compartement from her too much clothes and books. We can strap a pair of her shoes and hat on the outside. Trust me, it fits a lot and its only heavy if WE make it heavy. Well made. Highly recommend.

I have used this pack for the past 2 years for 4 trips, one overseas. Pulls well on city streets, trains and subways. Didn't use the backpack mode that much but it worked well and was comfortable when I did.It has fit easily into overhead bins on multiple aircraft types which was a deciding factor in the my decision to purchase. Compression straps cinch it up very effectively, making a nice, compact bag. Compartments allowed for convenient organisation. I would not hesitate to buy it again, very pleased.

Ever hear the advice against convertible travel packs? I’ve had a few, and when traveling internationally without the promise of private cars and the unexpected step-count of massive terminals, I will say the options they afford can make the pros well outweigh the cons. But the best ones I’ve used were strictly check-in bags—large enough to make up for the sacrifice of capacity thanks to the handle and wheels. But as a carry-on, it’s a harder sell—can you truly do one-bag travel with one of these with the diminished capacity? I personally have found I can’t get away with less than around 35 liters for a carry-on backpack, and I refuse to use a spinner case because I often ride a motorcycle to the airport and use public transit and do a good bit of walking between ... MoreEver hear the advice against convertible travel packs? But as a carry-on, it’s a harder sell—can you truly do one-bag travel with one of these with the diminished capacity? I personally have found I can’t get away with less than around 35 liters for a carry-on backpack, and I refuse to use a spinner case because I often ride a motorcycle to the airport and use public transit and do a good bit of walking between lodging at my destinations. This is the first carry-on sized bag with wheels and backpack straps I can really get behind. Yes, you lose a bit of capacity from a standard Osprey backpack for the sake of a pole. And folks who want spinner wheels won’t be satisfied. But as someone who’s literally fallen backward like a tortoise thanks to an overly heavy Porter pack and has felt dehydrated just by sweating having a other travel packs on my back, I’m so thankful for being able to wheel this around when I don’t need to worry about stairs and rough terrain. In backpack mode, the mesh panel is much better ventilated than any other travel pack thanks to the arch of the pole keeping a constant air pocket at your back and comfortable suspension of the load. This also acts as a secret stash area for a puffy jacket or packable extra bag when the back panel is zipped up. The straps are just as good as other Osprey travel packs with suspension points at the top—and there’s no fiddling with fasteners to attach the straps. Just like a conventional Farpoint, the internal and external compression straps work great, and the lack of organization in the external pocket is actually helpful to slide in items without catching onto tiny pockets and folds… which I’ve never found helpful anyway when that’s what your cabin bag is for anyway, right? Which is how you maximize your potential with this bag. Bring a great flexible smaller bag as your personal item—think crossbody duffel or hybrid tote-backpack. You can even re-use your good old Osprey Daylite as a THIRD bag if you can get away with connecting it to the front of the bag (as they are designed to do!).This gives you ultimate flexibility to hop on trains, planes, or even motorcycles when you need to be fully wheels off the ground or need both hands totally free. It’s the best way to go fully carry-on without wishing you could roll a bag to save your stamina or dash through subway stations without having to awkwardly carry a roller up and down staircases or wait for an elevator.
A rolling carry on is a great idea. I found two problems with this one. First is the strap system. It works, but configuring the straps between roll on and pack is cumbersome. The biggest problem I had was the nice bend in the ergonomic handle. This bend works well when rolling the pack but unfortunately takes up about a third of the interior space of the pack. You really can’t carry much with this pack. If the handle was straight the pack would have been useable. REI’s return policy is great and I took advantage of it.
On snowboard trips, I want to wheel my carry-on after checking in my 2 luggage. Use only once on a snowboard trip to Niseko. When picking up luggage, go back to backpack mode. Ditched my Burton wheeled backpack, too small, will clarify. I did quite bit of research, not my first wheeled backpack carry-on. Firstly, don't expect a wheeled backpack carry-on to have the same volume as non backpack. Because of the backpack feature, you will lose a little volume, but there are countermeasures. Don't get a backpack feature if you are going to complain about volume. Apparently the Farpoint is for men and Fairview for women. Confused at first, and can't seem to see any spec differences. ?? I'd add pics but BC and Osprey pics and vids are really good.Pro's:1. Osprey squared ... MoreOn snowboard trips, I want to wheel my carry-on after checking in my 2 luggage. Apparently the Farpoint is for men and Fairview for women. Confused at first, and can't seem to see any spec differences. ?? I'd add pics but BC and Osprey pics and vids are really good.Pro's:1. Osprey squared off the bag as much as possible to squeeze out the 36L volume. There is not a padded slot for a laptop, which is a positive for me, but there is a big zippered mesh pocket on the front. My last bag had a padded laptop slot which consumed so much volume. With the robust handle and backpack straps, the volume works for me.To give me more volume if needed, I also bought the Farpoint Travel Daypack, got a deal. 15L of more space and marries perfectly with this. Can be strapped, piggy backed, or it can be clipped onto the shoulder straps and carried on your chest/belly. The Daypack has a padded slot for hydration or laptop if still looking for a padded laptop slot.2. Surprising lightweight yet robustly built. Aluminum frame gives is great strength. Tow handle works great. Sturdy, does not collapse. Convenient top and side handle. Big wheels with sealed bearings.3. Backpack functions were not skimped on. Not only shoulder straps, but belt strap as well. Also has a sternum strap. Features I was looking for. When researching, lots of complaints about the wheels making clothes dirty. The belt acts as a barrier to prevent this. Backpack straps pack away neatly. Wearing as a backpack, comfortable and sturdy. Some products just throw backpack straps on to give it the feature.4. Useful top pocket. Front mesh pockets, which I haven't used, can't give good feedback whether they hold drinks well.5. Infernal compression straps are a good feature. External straps are really good for attachments, sweater, etc.6. Zipper pulls are nice.Cons:1. A bit pricey, but supposedly manufacturer lifetime warranty. I'm under the impression Osprey backs there product which helped on the decision. There are cheaper products out there, but I decided to pay for quality.2. Some side of front zipper pockets would be nice, to slip small items, or documents.3. Got a bit of a price break as a BC member, stock seems low everywhere on this item. Kinda stalked this.Happy with purchase and product, per my explained requirments.
I bought this pack for a trip to Italy since we wanted to pack light. I like everything about this pack (lots of compartments with strong zippers). The pack works well unless you place things on top of, or mounted to the rear face - then the pack can start irritating oscillations. I had several occurrences where this happened. It really needs two bars on the pull up handle.
wheels are great, BUT design limited carry on contents. Take a close look at the interior frame design, you lose about 1/3 of the packable room due to the handle configuration as it is about 1.5 inches high right down the middle of the pack. Then add to the design of the back of the pack which takes even more space, this is suppose to be a carry on right? It was designed more for someone to use it as a backpack first versus it is a carry one with wheels. As a carry on the design of this pack didn't take into account it is a carry-on with wheels first. Generally one would not check in a bag, so you would want to maximize the storage capacity? I returned my pack and was disappointed.
Can't rave about this bag enough. Once you start packing it you will be surprised how big it actually is. Some reviews complain about the angle inside. Here's a tip. Utilize the space between the webbing in the backpack portion. Great additional space to store extra items. Extremely sturdy, lots of handles, and straps. Perfect height to rest your feet while you wait for your flight.
I absolutely love my Farpoint Wheeled Travel Pack. It's a perfect lightweight suitcase for those who want to travel light and fast, without checking a bag.I ruined multiple rolling carry-ons thanks to European cobblestones, but this pack has an amazing warranty so there's no need to buy a new pack every time you break a wheel. The warranty covers *everything* including normal wear and tear!! This bag is easy to use as a pull-along but really shines when you use it as a pack--extremely helpful on those cobblestones, on Thai beaches etc.Things I like: the fabric is extremely durable and shows very little wear (yet it collects pet hair like crazy). This bag is easy to use as a pull-along but really shines when you use it as a pack--extremely helpful on those cobblestones, on Thai beaches etc.Things I like: the fabric is extremely durable and shows very little wear (yet it collects pet hair like crazy). Mine has been around the world a few times and looks almost new.I like the multiple compression straps and attachment points for both internal and external gear, including for a compatible smaller Fairview daypack that can attach to the front of the Farpoint.I like the top zippered pocket which provides easy access to liquids for TSA, but also holds all my documents, passport, phone, snack, etc.I love that the bag has small, sturdy feet on the front (instead of more wheels) which help 1) keep the bottom of the bag clean, and 2) keep the bag balanced and standing even when it's packed full.I love the large panel compartment which puts everything in reach.Things I don't like: because the telescoping handle takes that space, the bottom of the suitcase is not flat, so there's no place to put a large document, laptop, etc. I make up for this with packing cubes that help squeeze all my gear into the nooks and crannies created by this odd feature. Also, the telescoping handle isn't as sturdy or convenient as a dual handle, which makes navigating crowded airports slightly more difficult, and prevents you from sliding a smaller bag over the telescoping handle. But the exterior attachment points make up for that--I got a smaller personal bag (Fairview daypack) that's compatible with the Farpoint.Strangely, (not a dealbreaker but...) the exterior fabric tends to pick up pet hair like crazy; I travel with a pet roller just for the suitcase. Also, there's a padded handle on the top and side of the bag, but I find myself always reaching for the handle on the bottom...which isn't there. Normally you'd want a handle on each end--top and bottom?I also wish the backpack straps could be removable for trips when you know you won't need them, which would provide a little extra space and weight for things you do want. The stretch mesh front pockets are mostly useless when the bag is fully packed, especially if you want to use the lower external compression straps. I get around this by attaching a water bottle holder attachment to the side handle. All in all, the pros greatly outweigh the cons IF you want to travel light but also have the convenient variability of having both a wheeled suitcase and a backpack, all in a carry-on, without having to check a bag.
