Love Osprey bags they are such high quality and this one is no different. This is a very rugged bag and would stand up to lots of abuse. Unfortunately I bought this online, sight unseen, and found it lacks the ability to unzip all the way down the sides. No front stash pocket either was a dealbreaker for me and I returned for a different Osprey bag.
I bought the bag for travelling within a week. It has multiple compartments that suit different purposes. The compartment for laptop suits my 16 inch laptop. My shoulders and back don't hurt after a long afternoon carrying the bag.
The Proxima is a great day-pack which includes a laptop-sleeve. In addition to the laptop-sleeve, there are three other external zippered compartments.All the zippered compartments are full-depth except for the one on the front, which is around six inches deep with a soft-cloth lining - great for phones, ear-buds, and small items.The next compartment back contains an internal zippered pocket, also about six inches deep, two mesh-pockets, four by four inches, pencil/pen holders, and a key-ring clip. The compartment runs the entire depth so it will easily hold papers and folders.The main compartment, which is the largest of the three contains two sleeves, ~10 inches x 10 inches with one of them padded - large enough to hold a tablet. This compartment is the main-storage area is it is ~4 inches high when fully expanded.The part of the Proxima are the "StraightJacket compression straps" which will snug the backpack down if not fully loaded, but also compress the backpack if loaded with soft and/or puffy items. Even when fully loaded, the straps are long enough to strap items to the front of the pack - like a beach-towel.The one thing I would have liked on the pack is for the main compartment zipper to fully open - it only zips about half-way down the pack - so if you are stowing smaller items at the bottom, you will need to remove the upper contents to access them. This is not a deal-breaker, but it would be a nice-to-have.
