I am an architecture student in college and I carry a TON of stuff every day. One of my favorite things about osprey products is their all mighty guarantee, which is a massive bonus comparing to other brands.Let's start from the beginning, when you first get this pack you'll immediately notice how well it is constructed. The materials are strong and feel durable, and the seams are tight and feel like they could take a real beating and still hold. This bag features a built in kickstand so it will stand up straight without having to lean it against anything even when there isn't a lot in the bag, it's quite nice. The first time, and the thousandth time you put on the bag, it's extremely comfortable even when stuffed to the brim. The shoulder straps have nice breathable padding, and the back has a "floating" design. That means your back is touching a mesh, and not the actual bag. This allows air to flow between the bag and your back which helps IMMENSELY if you sweat a lot. Also the shoulder straps have support straps to help lessen the load on your back. The bag also has a chest strap and hip strap, the hip strap is non removable, however both straps have adjustments. Personally when I'm using the backpack for school I wrap up the hip straps and rubber band them so they don't get in the way.The inside of the bag is very roomy. It feels much larger than the 32L it claims to be. From the back to the front, closest to the back is your laptop compartment. The area is very adequately padded and I would feel safe just having my laptop in there. I have an HP ZBook that is 15.6 inches and I keep it in its sleeve, and then I stick the whole sleeve in the pocket, and it holds snugly. This pocket also has a hidden hole at the top to route wires out of, or what I have done since I also have used this bag for hiking, is that I shoved a 3L hydration pouch in that pocket and routed the tube out of the top. The shoulder straps also have elastic bands on them to hold the hydration tube in place. The next compartment is the big storage compartment. In there is another either laptop or tablet holder, its separated by a piece of material with a plastic band at the top to add durability. You can hold a whole ton of stuff in there. I fit 4 very stuffed 1.5inch binders in that pocket, and then there was enough room on top of the binders to easily fit a extra set of clothes or shoes or whatever you need. The next pocket is a small soft material for technology (phone pocket pretty much), I have a galaxy note8 and that thing is BIG and it fits fine. So it should fit just about any phone. The next compartment is what I call my OCD pocket because its got 3 elastic pouches, and a zipper pocket, so I can organize that pocket like nobody's business. The elastic pouches are big enough to fit deodorant sticks, lotion, or sunglasses. The zipper pocket at the bottom is about the same size as the technology pocket, but its made out of mesh. That compartment also has a clip thing to clip keys to so they don't get lost in the bottom of your bag. If you over stuff the large compartment, you may have a hard time putting a lot into this compartment. The final compartment is this weird vertical zipper pouch at the front that can expand. I honest to goodness have not found a perfect use for this pocket besides shoving a planner or a pair of sandals in to. Sadly it is not big enough to fit a helmet in to. The ONE and ONLY con of this backpack is if you commute via bike, this osprey bag does not have the weird elastic clip thing for helmets, however you could EASILY just clip the helmet onto one of the 3 hook look things on the backpack. This backpack has 2 elastic bottle holders, I have managed to fit my 32oz water bottle, and I wouldn't put a much larger one than that in it. Another awesome feature of this backpack is what they refer to as the straight jacket straps, they are 2 straps on each side of the back that help cinch down whatever you have in the water bottle side pockets, and also helps compress the bag to keep stuff inside from moving around. The final feature about the bag is the incredibly padded and comfortable handle at the top of the bag.If you took the time to read the book I just wrote, thank you, I hope I said something that helped in your decision. This bag is 200% worth it. I love using it for school, just as much as I like using it for traveling and camping. It's durable, has a great warranty, and can hold a ton of stuff while still feeling light on your back. I will continue to use this backpack, and find out what I do and do not like about the bag. There are virtually no cons to the backpack besides the lack of a helmet clip. The immense amount of features and pockets on this bag are what sold it for me. Enjoy!

I started off the semester with this bag and I don’t regret it one bit. Georgia heat is rough, so the suspend mesh is awesome for back sweat. I’m also and Exercise Physiology major, so I carry lots of heavy health science books, but this pack carries a load fantastically! I typically walk around 2-3 miles a day between work and class with this pack on and I couldn’t be happier!

Best backpack I own and most versatile, too. I own some nice ones and much more expensive but this Tropos just crushes them with features that others don't have. My favorites are the mesh back, load lifter straps, kickstand, and lots of excellent functioning zippers, pulls and pockets. I use it for anything from day trips, campus work, gym, and travel. It makes an excellent carry-on for a trip under a week if you pack somewhat minimally.

Excellent bag - combination of suspended mesh back panel and metal frame unbeatable!
30 March 2019

Really enjoying this bag so far, it's been a huge upgrade from my previous bag. The combination of the suspended mesh back panel and metal frame in a bag designed for daily laptop use is unique - I couldn't find anything else as good. It's definitely worth the money! Only comment I would have (and it's not a negative, but just something to be aware of) is that the grey is lighter in person than on the website.

This is only my first use of the bag but I’m very impressed with it. Lots of space and clearly built with high quality materials. I’ve had a number of Osprey bags in the past and never been disappointed with them.

My every day carry and school back pack
23 June 2019

I bought this back pack 6 months ago and it has worked so well for me. Is able to carry all the gear I need it to. Had space to organize some smaller stuff like pens, food, headphones and more in the front. Can carry a 17 inch computer in the back largest compartment. Super comfortable to wear. The water bottle holders are strong and large, able to fit a Nalgene and hold it. I just love Osprey and am enamored with the Tropos

Osprey Tropos: The Versatile All-Around Everyday Backpack
12 May 2018

Moving on from my beloved 13 year old North Face pack was tough, but it was time for retirement, which meant I needed to move on to something new. I've spent more than a year research packs before I finally, and luckily, came across the 32-litre Osprey Tropos. I haven't had a chance to really use it for travel yet, so these are my first impressions. To start, this is my first every Osprey product and I must say, I am very impressed with the design and build quality. The kickstand feature to this pack is an added bonus, which I think will come in handy, especially when I am at the airport. The kickstand feature to this pack is an added bonus, which I think will come in handy, especially when I am at the airport. There's a lot to be discovered with this pack as there seems to be a ton of packing space for all your gear, plus probably more. The rockstar of the pack is probably the back support and totally blows all North Face daypacks away in that department. The internal frame combined with the soft ventilated and suspended back panel really makes this pack stand out. There is a lot of organizational features to this back (which I will get back to in a second) and there is both a dedicated laptop compartment and a tablet sleeve built in to the main compartment of the bag.Although there is nothing wrong with the pack, there is a couple bits of feedback I would give to Osprey if they chose to make a second generation version of this pack. First off, colours. I am a bit fussy with pack colours because I want my packs to last and getting dirt/sand and general wear and tear on a black backpack stands out much more. There was not a lot of colour options to choose from, or rather, not as many options as I have found in North Face packs. Second, I am a sucker for organization. Yes, the pack comes with plenty of it for sure, but there is so much room and space in this pack that Osprey could have added some additional interior organization since they claim this is an all-purpose use-in-virtually-any-situation pack. Neither of the above are complaints per say, just as to why I gave this pack 4 stars rather than 5.

Sight unseen, a little dissapointed
16 May 2023

I had lusted over this bag based on online reviews and videos. I have to admit, I am a little let down. It is very heavy even when empty. The layout and organization of the pockets doesn't seem to maximize the available space. I thought the kick-stand feature would be more impressive, but it seems like an added weight for not much utility. Despite adjusting, the bag digs into my kidneys - not sure if it will be pleasant for a long hike. The colours are more vibrant in person than online, and so far it has not caused any unnecessary sweat on my daily bike commutes.

Very Comfy!
1 April 2018

I bought this to replace another, much heavier laptop backpack, and am quite pleased with my choice. I like that there are a decent amount of small pockets and compartments. One thing that wasn't immediately clear to me in reading about this pack is that there is a separate zippered compartment within the laptop sleeve for the tablet. Another thing that I found interesting, there is a pass through under the carry handle that one could either use for a cable or, you could put a hydration bladder where the laptop goes and pass the hose through the opening. All told, I really like this pack.

I’d rate this less than one if I could. purchased and returned. I’ve had the Tropos 34 for a number of years. I travel 6months/year or more and it’s been to every continent with me. it’s well worn and served me well all over the world. I discovered osprey doesn’t make the 34 anymore so I purchased the 32. What a HUGE mistake. They removed so many numerous features from the 34 it’s too numerous to list. And the design of the exterior that secures through the straps through bag itself it so very poor. Whomever designed this bag doesn’t travel. And whomever signed of on this deign should be reduced to janitor. This bag is useless compared to the 34. If your first purchase is the 32 then maybe your happy with it because you don’t know what was removed and redesigned. ... MoreI’d rate this less than one if I could. purchased and returned.
