This was a game changer for us. My pup was such a "competition" eater due to the large litter size. The vet recommended a slow bowl feeder and I purchased 3 of these. She is eating at a slower pace now and actually learning to chew her kibble.

I have a Lab/golden mix rescue puppy who eats very fast. He'd gobble his food down in a few bites. I looked at the many slow-feeders and settled on this. It has slowed him down considerably. Right now he takes about a cup or more of food each meal and it fits fine, but this bowl looks like it can hold about twice that. I love, too, that it fits over the opening of the silicone double-bowl pet mat I bought at the bull's-eye retailer. So, I can still use the water bowl side and place this bowl over the food side. The bowl gives our pup a challenge and probably will do the same for yours.

I picked up a 2-cup, grey slow-feeder when it was only $6.50. My dog eats too fast, and I wanted to slow him down. He whined at first but figured it out pretty quickly. I regret not buying an orange (difficult) bowl because the grey (intermediate) is too easy. It’s tough to predict whether or not your dog will pick it up. Still, these are very affordable, so I’ll likely buy another. Maybe a 4-cup version to spread out the food even more. Anything to slow him down. Two other notes. Firstly, the description says top rack dishwasher safe, but these are too tall to stand upright on the top rack. If you lay them flat, the dirty water gets stuck. I stand mine upright on the bottom rack, and it does fine, although my dishwasher is kind of pathetic. Secondly, the no-slip ... MoreI picked up a 2-cup, grey slow-feeder when it was only $6.50. The grooves for the kibble are deep and narrow so our dog could not ever get the kibble out. I should rephrase a little...she got out about the first 2/3 out, then the last 1/3 was out of reach. We're just going to donate to a local shelter and hope someone else can use it. Not recyclable plastic.
I wish I had known about these type of bowls sooner. My kitty is a rescue (as a 1 month old kitten) and for some reason he eats as if his food is going to disappear if he doesn't eat it fast enough only for him to regurgitate it back up :( .This slow feeder has staved off his gorging habit =D plus he seems to rest better as well, which I think is due to the added mental stimulation he has to use to fish his food out of the little nooks and crannies of his slow feeder! Win win
I have purchased many slow feed bowls but I keep going back to Outward Hound above all the others. This particular style is no exception. I have a 15lb chihuahua mix and the medium size works great for him (though I'd love to see more small styles!). Really slows down feeding time and is easy to clean.
This is perfect for our dog! He’s a big boy and eats way too fast and this one is great for larger dogs who eat more. We love all the other ones but they are not as deep as this one. We give him 2-3 cups twice a day. Highly recommend.
We have a 10 wk old lab and if we called him a vacuum, you'd understand!Gave him this bowl and he loves it! Still eats in a frenzy but only gets a few nuggets at a time. Takes him 4x's longer to esr noe and no hiccups after eating anymore!!!!
I ordered the 4 cup version, its big enough for my 10 year old American Pit Bull Terrier named Java who eats ground raw meat and bones. I don't know why I didn't buy something like this sooner, as Java "inhales" her food so fast from a normal bowl. I mash the ground meat inside the crevices of the slow feeder and now instead of finishing her meal in 20 seconds, it takes her about 3-4 minutes to get most of the food, and probably another 5 or more minutes of just licking inside every crevice to get every single bit of food. Seems like this is not only good for her digestion, but also good for her brain and engagement. This is one of the best purchases I have made for Java over the years.
My dog loves to devour her food in seconds which could not be good for her so I got her this so she’d slow down. It worked! She actually takes minutes to eat instead of seconds and holds a good amount for her, smaller than I expected so I might have to get bigger as she grows considering she’s only 4months right now but so far so good! I put my hand as a reference for size
