I recently started purchasing this hay in the 9lb box. Lol my husband thought it was a great idea to get another guinea pig, and here we are. Buying the 9lb box. Haha it’s okay. The piggies love it, and I’m not allergic to it. The Timothy hay we were purchasing before messed with my allergies. The girls are happy. Haha

We bought this for my daughter's chinchilla, he wasn't eating his other hay which is his main diet. So we thought we would try this one and WOW! He was eating it right away and loving it too!! We were so thrilled!! Chinchilla are delicate and we were just so happy he loved it.. I had ordered it amongst other items for him and for our cat, and the first time it charged my card but just sat there doing nothing. So I contacted someone and they straightened it all out for me . I was so happy that they were easy to talk to and got it all re ordered and it got here quick even tho all delivery places are backed up due to covid. Ive had several people leave me negative feedback due to the backed up systems in delivery due to covid and I will Not do that. So I will leave an ... MoreWe bought this for my daughter's chinchilla, he wasn't eating his other hay which is his main diet. So we thought we would try this one and WOW! Thanks Petco for being awesome and carrying awesome products for ALL our different pets! 5 *s for this hay! It smells really good too! Also has a zip lock on it so it stays fresh not a tie close. 5 *s from our Chinchilla Mr. Ruu.

Our bunny loves the new stuff and my girlfriend does too! Right after we bought a whole bale of hay for our bunny we found out that my girlfriend is very allergic to it. We did some research and found out about the orchard grass as a replacement. Unfortunately for her it took us a while to find this. But after several weeks and two trips to the ER for sore throat and laryngitis complications we finally got the orchard grass. Maybe two days after we got it and got rid of all the hay it was as if she had never had a problem. Like my review title says, this stuff was a life saver. It's great quality, a huge amount like the bale of hay, and our bunny loves it, plus no intense hay dust! (Even I was feeling ill after cleaning all that hay up!)

This last box of Oxbow Orchard grass hay is awful! There are HUGE hard stems, I'm talking sapling size stems, strange weeds and STICKERS in this hay. At the price we pay for this hay, the quality should be better, or rather, it should be consistent. This is the first time I have ever had this problem. All other boxes of orchard grass have been amazing. I sure hope I didn't miss any of the weeds and stickers and feed them to my guinea pigs. I honestly wasn't looking for these issues since I never encountered it before. I grab big handfuls at a time to feed my guys. BEWARE!
The Oxbow orchard grass was dried out and hard. I don't feel its the fault of seller. I've tried Oxbow from several major sellers with disappointment. Oxbow being a big name , high quality animal food producer needs to get it togather & get it right. Not happy with Oxbow.☹
The new packaging in pretty terrible. The bag is not resealable until you take a good amount of the hay out so you can use the zipper seal to close the bag. There was hay poking out of the top of the bag before I even opened it, so I am concerned about freshness and bugs. My guinea pig seems to be eating it, so that's good news.
This is the best grass hay you can get for you pets that require it. It's extremely soft, smells great, doesn't have any seeds in it like some cuts of hay, etc. It's also very cheap! I buy the 50 lb box every month for my 18 guinea pigs and have for over a year. Before that I used KMSHayloft, which is almost twice as expensive for the same quality hay. There's very minimal dust, and it's really only in the bottom of the box. I have a slight allergy to the dust in it, but with this hay, I rarely ever sneeze. Less dust for me is good as well as for my piggies' respiratory systems! With it being so soft, there's less risk of injury to your pet like a poke in the eye or perhaps you sparing yourself of getting hay stabbed under your nails, which I would get with the ... MoreThis is the best grass hay you can get for you pets that require it. There's some brown in it, of course, but nothing that the guinea pigs still won't eat. They eat every last bit of this, while other hay, they would eat half maybe and the rest would have to be thrown away.A great product. I will always use it!
I just got my second 9 lb box from my subscription. The first box was fine. The second box said orchard grass hay, bit’s definitely Timothy hay in the bag. Too much of a hassle to take back and wait for a new box since my bunnies will eat Timothy hay. I just much prefer the orchard, since I tend to deal with less waste with it. Just beware you might not always get the hay you’re wanting.
Used to have good luck with Oxbow hay for my guinea pigs but in the last 2 years have noticed the quality is worse; more and more dust and unusable tiny pieces. I switched to a different company I really like but thought I’d try Oxbow one more time. So much unusable hay. Very disappointed. I like other Oxbow products, just not the hay.
This is our second purchase of a 50lb box of Oxbow hay. The first box was drier/stalkier, and the guinea pig absolutely loved it. There was some she wouldn't eat, but she made a bed out of it, and at the price of about $1 per pound, it was no big deal (as compared to buying the 6lb bags or smaller that run $3+ per pound). This new box came and when I opened it, I really enjoyed the smell (very "grassy" smelling), but it's thinner and she just won't eat it. If I could I would take it back to Petco. I bought a small bag of stalky Kaytee hay to mix with the new hay in hopes she'll transition and get used to it. So far, no luck.I guess the moral of the story is when you buy boxed, you get what you get based on the growing season (1st, 2nd or 3rd cut).
