I switched my rats triangle oxbow kibbles to this one and they seemed to enjoy it, it has all the ingredients that’s essential for a healthy rat (of course you still need to supplement with fresh veggies etc) but OH MY GOD... I looked like my two rats where running their own saw mill business in their cage! Kibble dust e v e r y w h e r e. Definitely had to clean the cage more often but I would grant that to lose any stars because sometimes that’s just how it is with how rats eat. I love Oxbow for providing quality food and treats to keep my babies healthy and thriving.

Oxbow is the best brand for small animal food and this food specifically is the best they offer. The regular food "essentials" has corn and other things that isn't 100% good for rats or mice as a staple in their diet. Corn as a snack is okay. This however is mainly oats and veggies, which is great for these critters as a staple diet. My mice love this food and are gaining healthy weight, getting much nicer coats, and keeping their teeth filed down with this food. Be sure to supplement with fresh veggies and greens every other day and give fruit and nuts as treats.

Arguably the best brand on the market, Oxbow Garden Select provides my furry babies with the right amount of nutrients. I was worried they may not love it, as it is a "blander" diet as far as rat foods go. They gobble it right up! Garden Select is good for the boys to grind their teeth on, too, since it is in block form. It's not dusty and doesn't seem to crumble, but there are smaller broken bits and dust in the bottom of the bag. The bag is re-sealable for freshness. My rats eat 1-2 blocks a meal, twice a day. Sometimes a little extra. I rarely find any stowed away in their bedding, so none seems to be going to waste! One bag lasts about a month and a half for my two rats. I got this for my rats because I had heard everybody talking about how amazing oxbow is before I realized this could cause serious digestion issues. This specific type contains some ingredients that rats can't digest. The kind that everybody raves about isn't even sold at Petco. If you want to feed your rats the best food, buy the oxbow essentials, not garden select. Another great (and vegetarian, for anyone who cares about that) alternative is the Mazuri blocks. They're a lot cheaper but it isn't as "high quality" (still great, though) as oxbow. Oxbow makes great food but avoid this kind specifically if you want your rats to live long, healthy, happy lives.
I've purchased a lot of products from Chewy before, but this is the first time I purchased Oxbow Garden Select Rat Food from them. Price was much better than any other vendor and no shipping costs if you reach a minimum. I originally purchased a small bag of these "rat blocks" at my local pet store to supplement my gerbils' diet and was pleased that they seemed to like them. But with that in mind, I won't be buying from the local pet store again. Small bags at a high price? Not for me.I appreciate that Chewy offers so many different pet foods and feel as if I wasn't forced into a limited number of choices at my local pet store -- and I get a much better price. Thanks Chewy!
Disgusted to see all the gmo pet food out there. No wonder so many American pets (and humans) have allergies cancer and tumors... gmos! Finally a non gmo rodent food thank you oxbow and chewy for delivering so fast for no extra charge. As a health guru and animal lover I don't give them anything else, Besides fresh organic fruit and veggies of course.P.s.for rodent owners please look up how to properly care for your potential pet and if you even have to time and money for them they are not easy like everyone thinks!
I use this in combination with Oxbow Essentials. My rats prefer Essentials but will eat these big round pellets after they finish their other kibble. I like that these are a little larger in size. I hide them in their bedding for foraging and enrichment. The bag is ziplock so the food stays safe and fresh. I really like the smell of this food too : )
My rats were on the oxbow triangle looking food their entire lives. couldn’t find it locally and had to grab a bag of this. They stuck their noses up at first but ate it. Unfortunately, I believe one of our senior rats choked and passed away on this style of pellet this morning. I didn’t notice a change in their coat or energy levels compared to the ow box triangle shaped rat food
My rats normally eat Oxbow Adult Essentials, aka Regal Rat, which they all love. I bought this version to try something different. They don’t really like it. They usually hide it right away and don’t eat much, if any, at all. Even when I break the pieces in half, they still hide it. They don’t hide/hoard the regular Oxbow food. I ran out of Regal Rat, and only had this food for 1 day. My hairless rat didn’t touch it, and she was ecstatic when the regular Oxbow came in. For now it’s just supplemental feeding in case they do decide to eat it. Once the bag runs out I probably won’t buy it again.
The ratty boys love this food. I do have to watch they don't eat too much as they tend to gain weight with it quickly. Good size pellets are approximately 1/2" diam. 3/4" length. (Length varies)
