This pepper grinder worked very well and I was able to adjust it for the coarse grind I like. Mechanically, it does not seem to be designed with good gripping fully in mind. The bottom part should not be hard and smooth but ridged or softened. Also, the bottom part should not be circular but oval or oblong so it will not tend to turn in the hand when the crank is turned. On the whole it worked, but it wasn't as comfortable to crank as I was hoping. It also seemed smaller than would be comfortable. A little taller and a little stouter would make it easier to grip and operate.

I have used them for many years and I have three of them in my kitchen tool box. One of them stripped in the crank to shaft mount so when I checked with parts availability customer service just sent me a brand new mill! I’m unexpectedly pleased. I always purchase OXO brand of everything I use and can unequivocally certify their highest level of design and manufacturing quality. Customer service is 5 stars, but the pepper mill breaks under the handle and won't spin. Upgrading the part to metal would be obviously sturdier, and likely a good bit more expensive. But probably worth it.Had to find a different brand this time, but still prefer OXO in our kitchen.
Love this grinder. Easy to operate, gave 3 out as gifts. Will NEVER buy canned pepper again. I make Pepper Toast. Buttered toast then a couple rounds of "fresh" pepper. Warm up from the inside in Minnesota. Great products!
This is an excellent pepper grinder. It is easy to operate, easy to see the contents, easy to refil, and, most important of all, when you "set" the grind size it stays "set" until you change it. If you ever have an "issue" with an OXO product they will stand by it. I would recommend this.
I use a lot of pepper and so I've been through pepper mills and this is the best that I've found so far. The problems with pepper mills center around two issues for me. The coarseness of the grind and the ease of grinding. Many grinders, especially those with the adjustment screw on top, simply can't do a decent coarse grind. Also, if the turning arm is short, and the handle is small, the grinder is difficult to use. The OXO has neither of those issues. The grinding mechanism delivers a nice coarse grind and the handle and arm give you good leverage. The only drawback is the plastic eventually weakens and the handle breaks off. But it's worth it to me to replace this every couple of years because it just works so much better than the alternatives.
This pepper mill puts out the maximum amount @ any grind you want. That sharp ceramic blade never dulled in over ten years of daily use by a big household. Very easy to use. Who needs batteries ?This is the 6th one I have bought. Fabulous gifts for foodies.
